11:1 ¶
AND it was that when Jeshu had finished instructing his twelve disciples, he removed from thence to teach and preach in their cities. |
|
11:1
And when Jesus had ended the instructions to his twelve disciples, he went from there, to teach and to proclaim in their cities. |
11:2
But Juchanon, when he heard in the house of the bound the works of the Meshicha, sent by his disciples, |
|
11:2
Now when John, in the house of prisoners, heard of the works of Messiah, he sent by the hand of his disciples, |
11:3
and said to him, Art thou He that cometh, or another are we to expect? |
|
11:3
and said to him: Art thou he that cometh, or are we to expect another? |
11:4
Jeshu answered and said to them, Go, recount to Juchanon these things which you hear and see; |
|
11:4
Jesus answered, and said to them: Go, tell John the things that ye hear and see: |
11:5
(that) the blind see, the lame are walking, the lepers are made clean, the deaf hear, the dead arise, and the poor are evangelized; |
|
11:5
the blind see, and the lame walk, and the leprous are cleansed, and the deaf hear, and the dead rise up, and the needy hear good tidings: |
11:6
and blessed is he who shall not be offended with me. |
|
11:6
and happy is he, who shall not be stumbled at me. |
11:7
But when they were gone, Jeshu began to speak to the assembly concerning Juchanon: What went you forth into the waste to see? a reed that by the wind was shaken? |
|
11:7
And when they were gone, Jesus began to say to the multitudes, concerning John: What went ye into the wilderness to see? A reed that waved in the wind? |
11:8
And if not, what went you forth to see? a man clothed in soft vestments? Behold, they who are softly clothed are in the house of kings. |
|
11:8
And if not; what went ye out to see? A man clothed in delicate robes? Lo, they that are clothed in delicate [robes], are in the dwelling of kings. |
11:9
And if not, what went you forth to see? a prophet? I tell you, Yes; and more than a prophet. |
|
11:9
And if not; what went ye out to see? A prophet? Yes, say I to you, and more than a prophet. |
11:10
For this is he concerning whom it is written, Behold, I send my angel before thy face, to prepare the way before thee. |
|
11:10
For this is he of whom it is written: Behold, I send my messenger before thy face, that he may prepare the way before thee. |
11:11
Amen I say to you, there hath not arisen among them born of women [one] who [is] greater than Juchanon the Baptizer: yet, the least in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he. |
|
11:11
Verily I say to you, Among those born of women, there hath not arisen a greater than John the Baptizer: yet the small one in the kingdom of heaven, is greater than he. |
11:12
But from the days of Juchanon the Baptizer until now, the kingdom of the heavens by violence is taken, and the violent ones seize it. |
|
11:12
And from the days of John the Baptizer, until now, the kingdom of heaven is assailed by force, and the violent seize it. |
11:13
For all the prophets and the law prophesied until Juchanon; |
|
11:13
For all the prophets and the law prophesied, until the time of John. |
11:14
and if you are willing, receive, that he is Elia who was to come. |
|
11:14
And, if ye are willing, receive ye, that this is he who was to come. |
11:15
Whoever hath ears to hear, he shall hear. |
|
11:15
He that hath ears to hear, let him hear! |
11:16 ¶
BUT to what shall I compare this generation? It is like children who sit in the public place, and cry to their companions, |
|
11:16
But to what shall I compare this generation? It is like to children, that sit in the marketplace and call to their associates, |
11:17
and say, We have sung to you, and you have not danced; we have wailed unto you, and you have not mourned. |
|
11:17
and say: We have sung to you, and ye did not dance: we have wailed to you, and ye did not lament. |
11:18
For Juchanon came neither eating nor drinking, and they say, He hath a devil. |
|
11:18
For John came, not eating and not drinking; and they said, He hath a demon. |
11:19
The Son of man came eating and drinking, and they say, See a man a devourer, a wine-drinker, a friend of tribute-takers and of sinners. But justified is wisdom by her servants. |
|
11:19
The Son of man came, eating and drinking; and they say: Behold, a gluttonous man, and a wine drinker, and a friend of publicans and sinners. But wisdom is justified by her works. |
11:20
Then began Jeshu to reproach those cities in which were done many of his miracles, and which did not repent, |
|
11:20
Then began Jesus to reproach the cities, in which his many deeds of power were wrought, yet they repented not. |
11:21
saying, Woe to thee, Korazin! woe to thee, Bethtsaida! for if in Tsur and in Tsaidon those miracles had been done which have been performed in you, they would a while ago in sackcloth and ashes have repented. |
|
11:21
And he said: Woe to thee, Chorazin! Woe to thee, Bethsaida! For if the deeds of power done in you, had been done in Tyre and Sidon, doubtless, they would long ago have repented in sackcloth and ashes. |
11:22
But I say to you, that for Tsur and Tsaidon it shall be more tolerable in the day of judgment than for you. |
|
11:22
But I say to you, It will be comfortable for Tyre and Sidon, in the day of judgment, rather than for you. |
11:23
And thou, Kaphernachum, who unto heaven art exalted, unto Shiul shalt be brought down; for if in Sadum had been done those miracles which have been done in thee, it would have stood until this day. |
|
11:23
And thou, Capernaum, which hast been lifted up to heaven, shalt be brought down to the grave. For if those deeds of power which were done in thee, had been done in Sodom, it would have stood to this day. |
11:24
But I tell you that for the land of Sadum it shall be more tolerable in the day of judgment than for thee. |
|
11:24
But I say to thee, It will be comfortable for the land of Sodom, in the day of judgment, rather than for thee. |
11:25 ¶
IN that time Jeshu answered and said, I praise thee, my Father, the Lord of the heavens and of the earth, that thou hast concealed these (things) from the wise and prudent [ones], but hast revealed them unto little children. |
|
11:25
At that time Jesus answered and said: I praise thee, O my Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that thou hast hid these things from the wise and knowing, and hast revealed them to little children. |
11:26
Yes, my Father, for thus was it pleasing before thee! |
|
11:26
Yes, my Father; for so it seemed good before thee. |
11:27
All things are delivered to me from my Father; and no man knoweth the Son but the Father; also the Father no man knoweth, except the Son, and he (to) whom the Son pleaseth to reveal (him). |
|
11:27
Every thing is given up by my Father to me. And no one knoweth the Son, except the Father. Also, no one knoweth the Father, except the Son, and he to whom the Son is pleased to reveal [him]. |
11:28
Come unto me, all you (who) are wearied and bearing burdens, and I will give you rest. |
|
11:28
Come unto me, all ye wearied and heavily burdened, and I will ease you. |
11:29
Bear my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am peaceful and lowly in my heart, and you shall find repose for your souls. |
|
11:29
Take my yoke upon you; and learn from me, that I am gentle and subdued in my heart: and ye will find rest for your souls: |
11:30
For my yoke is kindly, and my burden is light. |
|
11:30
for my yoke is pleasant, and my burden is light. |
