 3:1 ¶ NOW in the fifteenth year of the reign of Tiberios Cesar, in the government of Pontios Pilatos in Jehud, Herodes being chief of the Fourth in Galila, and Philipos his brother chief of the Fourth in Ituria and in the region of Trakona, and Lusania chief of the Fourth of Abilini;

 3:1 And in the fifteenth year of the reign of Tiberius Caesar, in the presidency of Pontius Pilate in Judaea, while Herod was Tetrarch in Galilee, and Philip his brother Tetrarch in Ituraea and in the region of Trachonitis, and Lysanias Tetrarch of Abilene,

 3:2 in the high priesthood of Chanan and of Kaiopha, was the word of Aloha unto Juchanon bar Zakaria in the desert.

 3:2 in the high priesthood of Annas and of Caiaphas; the word of God was upon John the son of Zachariah, in the wilderness.

 3:3 And he came into the whole country about the Jurdan, preaching the baptism of repentance for the remission of sins.

 3:5 All valleys shall be filled up, and all mountains and hills be lowered; and the hillock shall be levelled down, and the rough place become smooth.

 3:6 And all flesh shall see the salvation of Aloha.

 3:8 Work therefore fruits which are worthy of repentance. And begin not to say within yourselves that Abraham is father to us; for I tell you, that from these stones Aloha is able to raise up sons unto Abraham.

 3:8 Bring forth, therefore, fruits comporting, with repentance. And begin not to say in yourselves: We have Abraham for our father; for I say to you, that God can, from these stones, raise up sons to Abraham.

 3:9 But, behold, the axe is laid at the root of the trees. Every tree therefore which good fruit maketh not, is cut down and into the fire falleth.

 3:9 And lo, the ax is put to the root of trees. Every tree therefore that beareth not good fruits, is hewed down, and falleth into the fire.

 3:10 And the assemblies inquired of him, saying, What then shall we do?

 3:10 And the multitudes asked him, and said: What, then, shall we do?

 3:11 He answered and said to them, Whoever hath two tunics, let him give to him who hath none; and whoever hath food, so let him do (likewise).

 3:11 He answered and said to them: Whoever hath two tunics, let him give [one] to him that hath none; and whoever hath food, let him do the same.

 3:12 The publicans also came to be baptized, and they said to him, Malphona, what shall we do?

 3:12 And publicans also came to be baptized. And they said to him: Teacher, what shall we do?

 3:13 But he said to them, Demand not any thing more upon what is prescribed to you to require.

 3:14 And those serving in war inquired of him, and said: And what shall we do? He said to them: Be insolent to no one, and oppress no one, and let your pay satisfy you.

 3:15 But while the people thought concerning Juchanon, and all of them reasoned in their hearts whether he were the Meshicha,

 3:15 And while the people were thinking of John, and all pondered in their heart, whether he were the Messiah;

 3:16 Juchanon answered and said to them, Behold, I baptize you with waters, but there cometh after me He who is mightier than I; He, the latchet of whose sandals I am not worthy to unloose; He shall baptize you with the Spirit of Holiness and with fire:

 3:17 He holdeth his winnowing shovel in his hand, and he will make clean his threshing floor; and the wheat he gathereth into his garners, and the chaff he will burn with fire not extinguished.

 3:18 But many other things he also taught and preached to the people.
