22:1 ¶
BUT the feast of the Phatiree, which is called Petscha, drew on. |
|
22:1
And the feast of unleavened cakes, which is called the passover, drew near. |
22:2
And the chief priests and the Sophree sought how they might kill him; for they feared from the people. |
|
22:2
And the chief priests and Scribes sought how they might kill him, for they were afraid of the people. |
22:3
But Satana entered into Jihuda called Scarjuta, who was of the number of the twelve. |
|
22:3
And Satan entered into Judas called Iscariot, who was of the number of the twelve. |
22:4
And he went, and spoke with the chief priests, and the Sophree, and the chief authorities of the temple, how he would deliver him to them. |
|
22:4
And he went and conferred with the chief priests and Scribes, and the military commanders of the temple, how he might betray him to them. |
22:5
And they were glad, and confirmed to give him silver. |
|
22:5
And they were glad, and covenanted to give him money. |
22:6
And he promised to them, and sought him opportunity to betray him apart from the multitude. |
|
22:6
And he promised them, and sought opportunity to betray him to them, in the absence of the multitude. |
22:7
And the day of unleavened bread came, on which it was the custom to slay the petscha. |
|
22:7
And the day of unleavened cakes arrived, on which it was customary for the passover to be slain. |
22:8
And Jeshu sent Kipha and Juchanon, and said to them, Go prepare for us the petscha, that we may eat. |
|
22:8
And Jesus sent Cephas and John, and said to them; Go, prepare for us the passover, that we may eat it. |
22:9
But they said to him, Where wilt thou that we prepare? |
|
22:9
And they said to him: Where wilt thou, that we prepare? |
22:10
He saith to them, When, you have entered into the city, a man meeteth you, bearing a pitcher of waters; go after him, |
|
22:10
He said to them: Lo, when ye enter the city, there will a man meet you, bearing a vessel of water. Go after him; |
22:11
and when he hath gone in, say to the lord of the house, Our Master saith, Is there a dining-place where I may eat the petscha with my disciples? |
|
22:11
and where he entereth, say ye to the lord of the house: Our Rabbi saith, Is there a place of refreshment, in which I may eat the Passover, with my disciples? |
22:12
And he will show you a certain large upper chamber which is furnished: there make ready. |
|
22:12
And lo, he will show you a large upper room that is furnished; there prepare ye. |
22:13
And they went, and found as he had told them: and they prepared the petscha. |
|
22:13
And they went, and found as he had said to them: and they made ready the passover. |
22:14
And when it was time, Jeshu came and reclined, and the twelve apostles with him. |
|
22:14
And when the time arrived, Jesus came and reclined; and the twelve Legates with him. |
22:15
And he said to them, With desire have I desired to eat this petscha with you before I suffer: |
|
22:15
And he said to them: I have greatly desired to eat this passover with you, before I suffer. |
22:16
for I tell you that from henceforth I shall not eat it, until it shall have been fulfilled in the kingdom of Aloha. |
|
22:16
For I say to you, That henceforth I shall not eat it, until it be fulfilled in the kingdom of God. |
22:17
And he took the cup, and praised, and said, Take this, and divide it among yourselves: |
|
22:17
[And he took the cup, and gave thanks, and said: Take this, and divide it among you. |
22:18
for I tell you that I shall not drink of the fruit of the vine, until the kingdom of Aloha shall have come. |
|
22:18
For I say to you, That I shall not drink of the product of the vine, until the kingdom of God shall come.] |
22:19
And he took bread, and praised, and brake, and gave to them, and said, This is my body which for you is given: this do in my memory. |
|
22:19
And he took bread, and gave thanks, and brake, and gave to them, and said: This is my body, which is given for your sakes. This do ye, in remembrance of me. |
22:20
And thus also respecting the cup, when, after they had supped, he said, This cup is the new covenant in my blood, which for you is shed. |
|
22:20
And in like manner also concerning the cup, after they had supped, he said: This cup is the new testament in my blood, which, for your sakes, is poured out! |
22:21
Nevertheless, the hand of him who betrayeth me is on the table. |
|
22:21
But, behold, the hand of him that betrayeth me is on the table. |
22:22
And the Son of man goeth, as he was set apart: nevertheless woe to that man by whom he is betrayed! |
|
22:22
And the Son of man goeth, as it was determined; but woe to that man, by whom he is betrayed. |
22:23
And they began to inquire among themselves, who it was of them who this should do. |
|
22:23
And they began to inquire among themselves, which of them it was, that would do this. |
22:24
But there was also a contention among them, who of them was the greatest. |
|
22:24
And there was contention also among them, who among them would be greatest. |
22:25
And Jeshu said to them, The kings of the Gentiles are their lords; and they who exercise authority over them, doers of good are called. |
|
22:25
And Jesus said to them: The kings of the nations, are their lords; and those exercising authority over them, are called benefactors. |
22:26
But you, not so: yea, he who is great among you, let him be as the least; and he who is chief, as one who serveth. |
|
22:26
But ye, not so: but he that is great among you, must be as the least; and he that is chief, as the servitor. |
22:27
For who is greatest, he who reclineth, or he who serveth? Is not he who reclineth? But I am among you as he who serveth. |
|
22:27
For, which is the greater, he that reclineth, or he that serveth? Is not he that reclineth? But I am among you, as he that serveth. |
22:28
You are they who have remained with me in my temptations. |
|
22:28
Ye are they who have continued with me in my trials: |
22:29
And I promise to you, as hath promised to me my Father, a kingdom; |
|
22:29
and I promise to you, as my Father hath promised to me, a kingdom: |
22:30
that you may eat and drink at the table in my kingdom, and may sit upon thrones, and judge the twelve tribes of Isroel. |
|
22:30
that ye may eat and drink at the table of my kingdom, and may sit on thrones, and judge the twelve tribes of Israel. |
22:31 ¶
AND Jeshu said to Shemun, Shemun, behold, Satana, demandeth to sift thee as wheat; |
|
22:31
And Jesus said to Simon: Simon, lo, Satan hath desired to sift thee, as wheat: |
22:32
but I have prayed for thee, that thy faith may not fail: and thou also, in the time that thou art converted, confirm thy brethren. |
|
22:32
but I have prayed for thee, that thy faith may not fail. And thou also, in time, turn; and confirm thy brethren. |
22:33
But Shemun said to him, My Lord, with thee I am prepared, and for the house of the bound, and for death. |
|
22:33
And Simon said to him: My Lord, with thee I am ready, both for prison and for death. |
22:34
Jeshu saith to him, I tell thee, Shemun, that the cock will not crow to-day, till three times thou hast denied that thou knowest me. |
|
22:34
Jesus said to him: I tell thee, Simon, the cock will not crow this day, until thou hast three times denied that thou knowest me. |
22:35
And he said to them, When I sent you without purse, or scrip, or shoes, was any thing wanting to you? They say to him, Nothing. |
|
22:35
And he said to them: When I sent you without purses, without wallets and shoes, lacked ye any thing? They say to him: Nothing. |
22:36
He saith to them, Henceforth, he who hath a purse, let him take it, and likewise a scrip also; and he who hath not a sword, let him sell his garment and buy a sword. |
|
22:36
He said to them: Henceforth, let him that hath a purse, take it; and so likewise a wallet. And let him that hath no sword, sell his garment, and buy himself a sword. |
22:37
For I tell you also, that what is written must be fulfilled in me, that with the transgressors he was numbered: for all which concerns me must be accomplished. |
|
22:37
For I say to you, That this also, which was written, must be fulfilled in me: I shall be numbered with transgressors. For, all that relates to me, will be fulfilled. |
22:38
And they say to him, Our Lord, behold, here are two swords. He saith to them, They suffice. |
|
22:38
And they said to him: Our Lord, lo, here are two swords. He said to them: They are sufficient. |
22:39
And he came forth, and went, as he was used, to the mount of the Place of Olives; and his disciples also went after him. |
|
22:39
And he went out, and proceeded, as was his custom, to the mount of the place of Olives; and his disciples followed him. |
22:40
And when come unto the spot, he said to them, Pray that you enter not into temptation. |
|
22:40
And when he arrived at the place, he said to them: Pray ye, that ye enter not into temptation. |
22:41
And he removed from them as (about the distance of) a stone's throw, and bowed the knee, and prayed, |
|
22:41
And he retired from them, about a stone's throw; and kneeled down, and prayed, |
22:42
and said, Father, if thou wilt, let this cup pass: nevertheless not my will, but thine be done. |
|
22:42
and said: Father, if it please thee, let this cup pass from me. Yet not my pleasure, but thine, be done. |
22:43
And an angel appeared to him from heaven, who strengthened him. |
|
22:43
And there appeared to him an angel from heaven, who strengthened him. |
22:44
And being in terror, more vehemently he prayed, and his sweat was as drops of blood, and fell upon the ground. |
|
22:44
And as he was in fear, he prayed earnestly; and his sweat was like drops of blood; and it fell on the ground. |
22:45
And he arose from prayer, and came to his disciples, and found them asleep, from sorrow. |
|
22:45
And he arose from his prayer, and came to his disciples: and he found them sleeping, from sorrow. |
22:46
And he said to them, Why sleep you? arise and pray, that you enter not into temptation. |
|
22:46
And he said to them: Why sleep ye? Arise, and pray, lest ye enter into temptation. |
22:47
And as he was speaking, behold a multitude, and behold him who was called Jihuda, one of the twelve, coming before them, and he came nigh to Jeshu, and kissed him: for this was the sign he had given to them, He whom I shall kiss is he. |
|
22:47
And while he was speaking, lo, a multitude, and he that was called Judas, one of the twelve, came at their head. And he came up to Jesus, and kissed him. For he had given them this sign: Whom I shall kiss, he it is. |
22:48
Jeshu saith to him, Jihuda, with the kiss betrayest thou the Son of man? |
|
22:48
Jesus said to him: Judas, is it with a kiss thou betrayest the Son of man? |
22:49
But when they who were with him saw what was done, they say to him, Our Lord, shall we strike with the sword? |
|
22:49
And when they that were with him, saw what occurred, they said to him: Our Lord, shall we smite them with the sword? |
22:50
And one of them struck the servant of the high priest, and took off his right ear. |
|
22:50
And one of them smote a servant of the high priest, and took off his right ear. |
22:51
Jeshu answered and said, It sufficeth until this; and he touched his ear which he had struck, and healed it. |
|
22:51
And Jesus answered and said: Sufficient, thus far. And he touched the ear of him that was smitten, and healed him. |
22:52
And Jeshu said to them who had come against him, the chief priests, and elders, and the chiefs of the forces of the temple, As against a thief are you come forth against me, with swords and clubs to take me? |
|
22:52
And Jesus said to those who had come upon him, the chief priests and Elders and military captains of the temple: Have ye come out against me, as against a robber, with swords, and with clubs, to take me? |
22:53
Every day with you have I been in the temple, and you did not stretch forth upon me (your) hands; but this is your hour and the power of darkness. |
|
22:53
I was with you daily in the temple, and ye laid not hands upon me. But this is your hour, and the reign of darkness. |
22:54
And they took (and) brought him to the house of the chief of the priests; and Shemun came after him from afar. |
|
22:54
And they took him, and conducted him to the house of the high priest. And Simon followed after him, at a distance. |
22:55
Now they had kindled a fire in the midst of the hall, and were sitting around it, and Shemun also sat with them. |
|
22:55
And they kindled a fire in the middle of the court, and sat around it; and Simon also sat among them. |
22:56
And a certain damsel saw him as he sat by the fire, and, looking at him, she said, This also was with him. |
|
22:56
And a certain maid saw him sitting at the fire, and she looked upon him, and said: This man also was with him. |
22:57
But he denied, and said, Woman, I know him not. |
|
22:57
But he denied, and said: Woman, I have not known him. |
22:58
And after a little while, another saw him, and said, Thou also art of them. But Kipha said, I am not. |
|
22:58
And a little after, another [person] saw him, and said to him: Thou too art one of them. And Cephas said: I am not. |
22:59
And after one hour another contended and said, Assuredly this also was with him, for he is also a Galiloya. |
|
22:59
And an hour after, another contended and said: Certainly, this man also was with him, for he likewise is a Galilean. |
22:60
Kipha saith, Man, I know not what thou sayest. And at once, while he was speaking, the cock crew. |
|
22:60
Cephas said: Man, I know not what thou sayest. And immediately, while he was speaking, the cock crew. |
22:61
And Jeshu turned, and looked upon Kipha; and Shemun remembered his word which our Lord had spoken to him, that before the cock shall crow thou wilt have denied me three times. |
|
22:61
And Jesus turned, and looked upon Cephas. And Simon remembered the word of our Lord, which he spoke to him: Before the cock shall crow, thou wilt deny me three times. |
22:62
And Shemun went without and wept bitterly. |
|
22:62
And Simon went out, and wept bitterly. |
22:63
And the men who held Jeshu mocked him, and veiled him, |
|
22:63
And the men who had taken Jesus, insulted him, and blinded him, |
22:64
and they struck him upon the face, saying, Prophesy, who struck thee. |
|
22:64
and smote him on his face, and said: Prophesy thou, who smote thee? |
22:65
And many other things they blasphemed and spake against him. |
|
22:65
And many other things they revilingly uttered, and spoke against him. |
22:66 ¶
AND when it dawned, the elders and chief priests and the Sophree came together, and took him into the house of their assembly; |
|
22:66
And when the day dawned, the Elders and chief priests and Scribes assembled together; and they led him to the place of their meeting, |
22:67
saying to him, Art thou the Meshicha? tell us. He saith to them, Should I tell you, you would not believe me; |
|
22:67
and said to him: If thou art the Messiah, tell us. He said to them: If I tell you, ye will not believe in me. |
22:68
and were I to ask you, you would not return me a word, nor release me. |
|
22:68
And if I should ask you, ye will not return me an answer; nor will ye release me. |
22:69
Henceforth the Son of man sitteth at the right hand of the power of Aloha. |
|
22:69
From this time, the Son of man will sit on the right hand of the majesty of God. |
22:70
Then said they all, Thou art, then, the Son of Aloha? Jeshu saith to them, You say that I am. |
|
22:70
And they all said: Thou art then, the Son of God? Jesus said to them: Ye say that I am. |
22:71
They say, Why yet need we witnesses? for we have heard from his mouth. |
|
22:71
They say: What further need have we of witnesses? For we have heard from his own mouth. |
