Romans 13

1 Subjection, and many other duties, we owe to the magistrates. 8 Love is the fulfilling of the Law. 11 Gluttony and drunkenness, and the works of darkness, are out of season in the time of the Gospel.

 13:1 Every 3956 person 5590 is to be in subjection 5293 to the governing 5242 authorities 1849. For there is no 3756 authority 1849 except 1508 from God 2316, and those 3588 which exist 1510 are established 5021 by God 2316.

 13:2 Therefore 5620 whoever 3588 resists 436 authority 1849 has opposed 436 the ordinance 1296 of God 2316; and they who have opposed 436 will receive 2983 condemnation 2917 upon themselves 1438.

 13:3 For rulers 758 are not a cause 5401 of fear 5401 for good 18 behavior 2041, but for evil 2556. Do you want 2309 to have 5399 no 3361 fear 5399 of authority 1849? Do 4160 what 18 is good 18 and you will have 2192 praise 1868 from the same 846;

 13:4 for it is a minister 1249 of God 2316 to you for good 18. But if 1437 you do 4160 what 2556 is evil 2556, be afraid 5399; for it does not bear 5409 the sword 3162 for nothing 1500; for it is a minister 1249 of God 2316, an avenger 1558 who brings wrath 3709 on the one who practices 4238 evil 2556.

 13:5 Therefore 1352 it is necessary 318 to be in subjection 5293, not only 3440 because 1223 of wrath 3709, but also 2532 for conscience’ 4893 sake 1223.

 13:6 For because 1223 of this 3778 you also 2532 pay 5055 taxes 5411, for [rulers] are servants 3011 of God 2316, devoting 4342 themselves 4342 to this 3778 very 846 thing 3778.

 13:7 Render 591 to all 3956 what 3782 is due 3782 them: tax 5411 to whom 3588 tax 5411 [is due]; custom 5056 to whom 3588 custom 5056; fear 5401 to whom 3588 fear 5401; honor 5092 to whom 3588 honor 5092.

 13:8 ¶ Owe 3784 nothing 3367 to anyone 3367 except 1508 to love 25 one 240 another 240; for he who loves 25 his neighbor 2087 has fulfilled 4137 [the] law 3551.

 13:9 For this 3588, “YOU SHALL NOT COMMIT 3431 ADULTERY 3431, YOU SHALL NOT MURDER 5407, YOU SHALL NOT STEAL 2813, YOU SHALL NOT COVET 1937,” and if 1487 there is any 5100 other 2087 commandment 1785, it is summed 346 up in this 3778 saying 3056, “YOU SHALL LOVE 25 YOUR NEIGHBOR 4139 AS YOURSELF 4572.”

 13:10 Love 26 does 2038b no 3756 wrong 2556 to a neighbor 4139; therefore 3767 love 26 is the fulfillment 4138 of [the] law 3551.

 13:11 ¶ [Do] this 3778, knowing 3609a the time 2540, that it is already 2235 the hour 5610 for you to awaken 1453 from sleep 5258; for now 3568 salvation 4991 is nearer 1451 to us than 2228 when 3753 we believed 4100.

 13:12 The night 3571 is almost 4298 gone 4298, and the day 2250 is near 1448. Therefore 3767 let us lay 659 aside 659 the deeds 2041 of darkness 4655 and put 1746a on the armor 3696 of light 5457.

 13:13 Let us behave 4043 properly 2156 as in the day 2250, not in carousing 2970 and drunkenness 3178, not in sexual 2845 promiscuity 2845 and sensuality 766, not in strife 2054 and jealousy 2205b.

 13:14 But put 1746a on the Lord 2962 Jesus 2424 Christ 5547, and make 4160 no 3361 provision 4307 for the flesh 4561 in regard 1519 to [its] lusts 1939.
