Ezra 9

1 Ezra mourneth for the affinity of the people with strangers. 5 He prayeth unto God with confession of sins.

 9:1 Now when these 428 things 428 had been completed 3615, the princes 8269 approached 5066 me, saying 559, “The people 5971a of Israel 3478 and the priests 3548 and the Levites 3881 have not separated 914 themselves from the peoples 5971a of the lands 776, according to their abominations 8441, [those] of the Canaanites 3669a, the Hittites 2850, the Perizzites 6522, the Jebusites 2983, the Ammonites 5984, the Moabites 4125, the Egyptians 4713 and the Amorites 567.

 9:2 “For they have taken 5375 some 4480 of their daughters 1323 [as wives] for themselves and for their sons 1121, so that the holy 6944 race 2233 has intermingled 6148 with the peoples 5971a of the lands 776; indeed, the hands 3027 of the princes 8269 and the rulers 5461 have been 1961 foremost 7223 in this 2088 unfaithfulness 4604.”

 9:3 When I heard 8085 about this 2088 matter 1697, I tore 7167 my garment 899b and my robe 4598, and pulled 4803 some 4480 of the hair 8181 from my head 7218 and my beard 2206, and sat 3427 down 3427 appalled 8074.

 9:4 Then everyone 3605 who trembled 2730a at the words 1697 of the God 430 of Israel 3478 on account 5921 of the unfaithfulness 4604 of the exiles 1473 gathered 622 to me, and I sat 3427 appalled 8074 until 5704 the evening 6153 offering 4503.

 9:5 ¶ But at the evening 6153 offering 4503 I arose 6965 from my humiliation 8589, even with my garment 899b and my robe 4598 torn 7167, and I fell 3766 on my knees 1290 and stretched 6566 out my hands 3709 to the LORD 3068 my God 430;

 9:6 and I said 559, “O my God 430, I am ashamed 954 and embarrassed 3637 to lift 7311 up my face 6440 to You, my God 430, for our iniquities 5771 have risen 7235a above 4605 our heads 7218 and our guilt 819 has grown 1431 even 5704 to the heavens 8064.

 9:7 “Since 4480 the days 3117 of our fathers 1 to this 2088 day 3117 we [have been] in great 1419 guilt 819, and on account of our iniquities 5771 we, our kings 4428 [and] our priests 3548 have been given 5414 into the hand 3027 of the kings 4428 of the lands 776, to the sword 2719, to captivity 7628b and to plunder 961 and to open 6440 shame 1322, as [it is] this 2088 day 3117.

 9:8 “But now 6258 for a brief 4592 moment 7281 grace 8467 has been 1961 [shown] from the LORD 3068 our God 430, to leave 7604 us an escaped 6413 remnant 6413 and to give 5414 us a peg 3489 in His holy 6944 place 4725, that our God 430 may enlighten 215 our eyes 5869 and grant 5414 us a little 4592 reviving 4241 in our bondage 5659.

 9:9 “For we are slaves 5650; yet in our bondage 5659 our God 430 has not forsaken 5800a us, but has extended 5186 lovingkindness 2617a to us in the sight 6440 of the kings 4428 of Persia 6539, to give 5414 us reviving 4241 to raise 7311 up the house 1004 of our God 430, to restore 5975 its ruins 2723 and to give 5414 us a wall 1447 in Judah 3063 and Jerusalem 3389.

 9:10 ¶ “Now 6258, our God 430, what 4100 shall we say 559 after 310 this 2088? For we have forsaken 5800a Your commandments 4687,

 9:11 which 834 You have commanded 6680 by Your servants 5650 the prophets 5030, saying 559, ‘The land 776 which 834 you are entering 935 to possess 3423 is an unclean 5079 land 776 with the uncleanness 5079 of the peoples 5971a of the lands 776, with their abominations 8441 which 834 have filled 4390 it from end 6310 to end 6310 [and] with their impurity 2932a.

 9:12 ‘So now 6258 do not give 5414 your daughters 1323 to their sons 1121 nor 408 take 5375 their daughters 1323 to your sons 1121, and never 3808 seek 1875 their peace 7965 or their prosperity 2899b, that you may be strong 2388 and eat 398 the good 2898 [things] of the land 776 and leave 3423 [it] as an inheritance 3423 to your sons 1121 forever 5704 5769.’

 9:13 “After 310 all 3605 that has come 935 upon us for our evil 7451a deeds 4639 and our great 1419 guilt 819, since 3588 You our God 430 have requited 2820 [us] less 4295 than 4480 our iniquities 5771 [deserve], and have given 5414 us an escaped 6413 remnant 6413 as this 2088,

 9:14 shall we again 7725 break 6565a Your commandments 4687 and intermarry 2859 with the peoples 5971a who commit these 428 abominations 8441? Would You not be angry 599 with us to the point 5704 of destruction 3615, until 5704 there 369 is no 369 remnant 7611 nor 369 any who escape 6413?

 9:15 “O LORD 3068 God 430 of Israel 3478, You are righteous 6662, for we have been left 7604 an escaped 6413 remnant 6413, as [it is] this 2088 day 3117; behold 2009, we are before 6440 You in our guilt 819, for no 369 one 369 can stand 5975 before 6440 You because 5921 of this 2088.”
