Ezra 10

1 Shechaniah encourageth Ezra to reform the strange marriages. 6 Ezra mourning assembleth the people. 9 The people, at the exhortation of Ezra, repent, and promise ammendment. 15 The care to perform it. 18 The names of them which had married strange wives.

 10:1 Now while Ezra 5830 was praying 6419 and making 3034 confession 3034, weeping 1058 and prostrating 5307 himself before 6440 the house 1004 of God 430, a very 3966 large 7227a assembly 6951, men 376, women 802 and children 3206, gathered 6908 to him from Israel 3478; for the people 5971a wept 1058 bitterly 7235a 1059.

 10:2 Shecaniah 7935 the son 1121 of Jehiel 3171, one of the sons 1121 of Elam 5867b, said 559 to Ezra 5830, “We have been 4603 unfaithful 4603 to our God 430 and have married 3427 foreign 5237 women 802 from the peoples 5971a of the land 776; yet now 6258 there 3426 is hope 4723a for Israel 3478 in spite 5921 of this 2088.

 10:3 “So now 6258 let us make 3772 a covenant 1285 with our God 430 to put 3318 away 3318 all 3605 the wives 802 and their children 3205, according to the counsel 6098 of my lord 136 and of those who tremble 2730a at the commandment 4687 of our God 430; and let it be done 6213a according to the law 8451.

 10:4 “Arise 6965! For [this] matter 1697 is your responsibility 5921, but we will be with you; be courageous 2388 and act 6213a.”

 10:5 ¶ Then Ezra 5830 rose 6965 and made the leading 8269 priests 3548, the Levites 3881 and all 3605 Israel 3478, take 7650 oath 7650 that they would do 6213a according to this 2088 proposal 1697; so they took 7650 the oath 7650.

 10:6 Then Ezra 5830 rose 6965 from before 4480 6440 the house 1004 of God 430 and went 1980 into the chamber 3957 of Jehohanan 3076 the son 1121 of Eliashib 475. Although he went 1980 there 8033, he did not eat 398 bread 3899 nor 3808 drink 8354 water 4325, for he was mourning 56 over 5921 the unfaithfulness 4604 of the exiles 1473.

 10:7 They made 5674a a proclamation 6963 throughout Judah 3063 and Jerusalem 3389 to all 3605 the exiles 1121 1473, that they should assemble 6908 at Jerusalem 3389,

 10:8 and that whoever 3605 834 would not come 935 within three 7969 days 3117, according to the counsel 6098 of the leaders 8269 and the elders 2205, all 3605 his possessions 7399 should be forfeited 2763a and he himself 1931 excluded 914 from the assembly 6951 of the exiles 1473.

 10:9 ¶ So all 3605 the men 376 of Judah 3063 and Benjamin 1144 assembled 6908 at Jerusalem 3389 within the three 7969 days 3117. It was the ninth 8671 month 2320 on the twentieth 6242 of the month 2320, and all 3605 the people 5971a sat 3427 in the open 7339 square 7339 [before] the house 1004 of God 430, trembling 7460 because 5921 of this matter 1697 and the heavy rain 1653.

 10:10 Then Ezra 5830 the priest 3548 stood 6965 up and said 559 to them, “You have been 4603 unfaithful 4603 and have married 3427 foreign 5237 wives 802 adding 3254 to the guilt 819 of Israel 3478.

 10:11 “Now 6258 therefore, make 5414 confession 8426 to the LORD 3068 God 430 of your fathers 1 and do 6213a His will 7522; and separate 914 yourselves from the peoples 5971a of the land 776 and from the foreign 5237 wives 802.”

 10:12 Then all 3605 the assembly 6951 replied 6030a with a loud 1419 voice 6963, “That’s right 3653a! As you have said 1697, so it is our duty 5921 to do 6213a.

 10:13 “But there are many 7227a people 5971a; it is the rainy 1653 season 6256 and we are not able 3581b to stand 5975 in the open 2351. Nor 3808 [can] the task 4399 [be done] in one 259 or two 8147 days 3117, for we have transgressed 6586 greatly 7235a in this 2088 matter 1697.

 10:14 “Let our leaders 8269 represent 5975 the whole 3605 assembly 6951 and let all 3605 those in our cities 5892b who have married 3427 foreign 5237 wives 802 come 935 at appointed 2163 times 6256, together 5973 with the elders 2205 and judges 8199 of each 5892b city 5892b, until 5704 the fierce 2740 anger 639 of our God 430 on account 5704 of this 2088 matter 1697 is turned 7725 away 7725 from us.”

 10:15 Only 389 Jonathan 3083 the son 1121 of Asahel 6214 and Jahzeiah 3167 the son 1121 of Tikvah 8616 opposed 5975 this 2088, with Meshullam 4918 and Shabbethai 7678 the Levite 3881 supporting 5826 them.

 10:16 ¶ But the exiles 1121 1473 did 6213a so 3651. And Ezra 5830 the priest 3548 selected 914 men 376 [who were] heads 7218 of fathers’ 1 [households] for [each of] their father’s 1 households 1004, all 3605 of them by name 8034. So they convened 3427 on the first 259 day 3117 of the tenth 6224 month 2320 to investigate 1875 the matter 1697.

 10:17 They finished 3615 [investigating] all 3605 the men 376 who had married 3427 foreign 5237 wives 802 by the first 259 day 3117 of the first 7223 month 2320.

 10:18 ¶ Among 4480 the sons 1121 of the priests 3548 who 834 had married 3427 foreign 5237 wives 802 were found 4672 of the sons 1121 of Jeshua 3091 the son 1121 of Jozadak 3087, and his brothers 251: Maaseiah 4641, Eliezer 461, Jarib 3402 and Gedaliah 1436a.

 10:19 They pledged 5414 3027 to put 3318 away 3318 their wives 802, and being guilty 818, [they offered] a ram 352a of the flock 6629 for their offense 818.

 10:20 Of the sons 1121 of Immer 564 [there were] Hanani 2607 and Zebadiah 2069;

 10:21 and of the sons 1121 of Harim 2766: Maaseiah 4641, Elijah 452, Shemaiah 8098, Jehiel 3171 and Uzziah 5818;

 10:22 and of the sons 1121 of Pashhur 6583: Elioenai 454b, Maaseiah 4641, Ishmael 3458, Nethanel 5417, Jozabad 3107 and Elasah 501.

 10:23 ¶ Of Levites 3881 [there were] Jozabad 3107, Shimei 8096, Kelaiah 7041 (that is, Kelita 7042), Pethahiah 6611, Judah 3063 and Eliezer 461.

 10:24 ¶ Of the singers 7891 [there was] Eliashib 475; and of the gatekeepers 7778: Shallum 7967, Telem 2928 and Uri 221.

 10:25 ¶ Of Israel 3478, of the sons 1121 of Parosh 6551 [there were] Ramiah 7422, Izziah 3150, Malchijah 4441, Mijamin 4326, Eleazar 499, Malchijah 4441 and Benaiah 1141;

 10:26 and of the sons 1121 of Elam 5867b: Mattaniah 4983, Zechariah 2148a, Jehiel 3171, Abdi 5660, Jeremoth 3406 and Elijah 452;

 10:27 and of the sons 1121 of Zattu 2240: Elioenai 454b, Eliashib 475, Mattaniah 4983, Jeremoth 3406, Zabad 2066 and Aziza 5819;

 10:28 and of the sons 1121 of Bebai 893: Jehohanan 3076, Hananiah 2608a, Zabbai 2079 [and] Athlai 6271;

 10:29 and of the sons 1121 of Bani 1137: Meshullam 4918, Malluch 4409 and Adaiah 5718, Jashub 3437, Sheal 7594 [and] Jeremoth 3406;

 10:30 and of the sons 1121 of Pahath-moab 6355: Adna 5733, Chelal 3636, Benaiah 1141, Maaseiah 4641, Mattaniah 4983, Bezalel 1212, Binnui 1131b and Manasseh 4519;

 10:31 and [of] the sons 1121 of Harim 2766: Eliezer 461, Isshijah 3449, Malchijah 4441, Shemaiah 8098, Shimeon 8095,

 10:32 Benjamin 1144, Malluch 4409 [and] Shemariah 8114;

 10:33 of the sons 1121 of Hashum 2828: Mattenai 4982, Mattattah 4992, Zabad 2066, Eliphelet 467, Jeremai 3413, Manasseh 4519 [and] Shimei 8096;

 10:43 Of the sons 1121 of Nebo 5015a [there were] Jeiel 3262, Mattithiah 4993, Zabad 2066, Zebina 2081, Jaddai 3035, Joel 3100 [and] Benaiah 1141.

 10:44 All 3605 these 428 had married 5375 foreign 5237 wives 802, and some 4480 of them had 3426 wives 802 [by whom] they had 7760 children 1121.
