Amos 8

1 By a basket of summer fruit is shewed the propinquity of Israel's end. 4 Oppression is reproved. 11 A famine of the Word threatened.

 8:1 Thus 3541 the Lord 136 GOD 3068 showed 7200 me, and behold 2009, [there was] a basket 3619 of summer 7019c fruit 7019c.

 8:2 He said 559, “What 4100 do you see 7200, Amos 5986?” And I said 559, “A basket 3619 of summer 7019c fruit 7019c.” Then the LORD 3068 said 559 to me, “The end 7093 has come 935 for My people 5971a Israel 3478. I will spare 5674a them no 3808 longer 3254 5750.

 8:3 “The songs 7892b of the palace 1964 will turn 3213 to wailing 3213 in that day 3117,” declares 5002 the Lord 136 GOD 3068. “Many 7227a [will be] the corpses 6297; in every 3605 place 4725 they will cast 7993 them forth in silence 2013.”

 8:4 ¶ Hear 8085 this 2088, you who trample 7602b the needy 34, to do 7673a away 7673a with the humble 6041 of the land 776,

 8:5 saying 559, “When 4970 will the new 2320 moon 2320 be over 5674a, So that we may sell 7666 grain 7668, And the sabbath 7676, that we may open 6605a the wheat 1250 [market], To make 6994 the bushel 374 smaller 6994 and the shekel 8255 bigger 1431, And to cheat 5791 with dishonest 4820 scales 3976,

 8:6 So as to buy 7069 the helpless 1800b for money 3701 And the needy 34 for a pair of sandals 5275, And [that] we may sell 7666 the refuse 4651 of the wheat 1250?”

 8:7 ¶ The LORD 3068 has sworn 7650 by the pride 1347b of Jacob 3290, “Indeed 518, I will never 518 5331 forget 7911 any 3605 of their deeds 4639.

 8:8 “Because 5921 of this 2088 will not the land 776 quake 7264 And everyone 3605 who dwells 3427 in it mourn 56? Indeed, all 3605 of it will rise 5927 up like the Nile 2975, And it will be tossed 1644 about 1644 And subside 8257 like the Nile 2975 of Egypt 4714.

 8:9 “It will come 1961 about in that day 3117,” declares 5002 the Lord 136 GOD 3068, “That I will make the sun 8121 go 935 down at noon 6672a And make 2821 the earth 776 dark 2821 in broad 216 daylight 3117 216.

 8:10 “Then I will turn 2015 your festivals 2282 into mourning 60 And all 3605 your songs 7892a into lamentation 7015; And I will bring 5927 sackcloth 8242 on everyone’s 3605 loins 4975 And baldness 7144 on every 3605 head 7218. And I will make 7760 it like [a time of] mourning 60 for an only 3173 son 3173, And the end 319 of it will be like a bitter 4751 day 3117.

 8:11 ¶ “Behold 2009, days 3117 are coming 935,” declares 5002 the Lord 136 GOD 306, “When I will send 7971 a famine 7458 on the land 776, Not a famine 7458 for bread 3899 or a thirst 6772 for water 4325, But rather 3588 518 for hearing 8085 the words 1697 of the LORD 3068.

 8:12 “People will stagger 5128 from sea 3220 to sea 3220 And from the north 6828 even to the east 4217; They will go 7751a to and fro 7751a to seek 1245 the word 1697 of the LORD 3068, But they will not find 4672 [it].

 8:13 “In that day 3117 the beautiful 3303 virgins 1330 And the young 970 men 970 will faint 5968 from thirst 6772.

 8:14 “[As for] those who swear 7650 by the guilt 819 of Samaria 8111, Who say 559, ‘As your god 430 lives 2416a, O Dan 1835,’ And, ‘As the way 1870 of Beersheba 884 lives 2416a,’ They will fall 5307 and not rise 6965 again 5750.”
