James 1

1 We are to rejoice under the cross, 5 to ask patience of God, 13 and in our trials not to impute our weakness, or sins, unto him, 19 but rather to hearken to the Word, to meditate in it, and to do thereafter: 26 otherwise men may seem, but never be truly religious.

 1:1 James 2385, a bond-servant 1401 of God 2316 and of the Lord 2962 Jesus 2424 Christ 5547, ¶ To the twelve 1427 tribes 5443 who 3588 are dispersed 1290 abroad: Greetings 5463.

 1:2 ¶ Consider 2233 it all 3956 joy 5479, my brethren 80, when 3752 you encounter 4045 various 4164 trials 3986,

 1:3 knowing 1097 that the testing 1383 of your faith 4102 produces 2716 endurance 5281.

 1:4 And let endurance 5281 have 2192 [its] perfect 5046 result 2041, so 2443 that you may be perfect 5046 and complete 3648, lacking 3007 in nothing 3367.

 1:5 ¶ But if 1487 any 5100 of you lacks 3007 wisdom 4678, let him ask 154 of God 2316, who gives 1325 to all 3956 generously 574 and without 3361 reproach 3679, and it will be given 1325 to him.

 1:6 But he must ask 154 in faith 4102 without 3367 any 3367 doubting 1252, for the one who doubts 1252 is like 1858a the surf 2830 of the sea 2281, driven 416 and tossed 4494 by the wind 4494.

 1:7 For that man 444 ought not to expect 3633 that he will receive 2983 anything 5100 from the Lord 2962,

 1:8 [being] a double-minded 1374 man 435, unstable 182 in all 3956 his ways 3598.

 1:9 ¶ But the brother 80 of humble 5011 circumstances is to glory 2744 in his high 5311 position 5311;

 1:10 and the rich 4145 man 4145 [is to glory] in his humiliation 5014, because 3754 like 5613 flowering 438 grass 5528 he will pass 3928 away 3928.

 1:11 For the sun 2246 rises 393 with a scorching 2742 wind 2742 and withers 3583 the grass 5528; and its flower 438 falls 1601b off 1601b and the beauty 2143 of its appearance 4383 is destroyed 622; so 3779 too 2532 the rich 4145 man 4145 in the midst of his pursuits 4197 will fade 3133 away 3133.

 1:12 ¶ Blessed 3107 is a man 435 who 3739 perseveres 5278 under trial 3986; for once he has been 1096 approved 1384, he will receive 2983 the crown 4735 of life 2222 which 3739 [the Lord] has promised 1861 to those 3588 who love 25 Him.

 1:13 Let no 3367 one 3367 say 3004 when he is tempted 3985, “I am being tempted 3985 by God 2316”; for God 2316 cannot 551 be tempted 551 by evil 2556, and He Himself 846 does not tempt 3985 anyone 3762.

 1:14 But each 1538 one 1538 is tempted 3985 when he is carried 1828 away 1828 and enticed 1185 by his own 2398 lust 1939.

 1:15 Then 1534 when lust 1939 has conceived 4815, it gives 5088 birth 5088 to sin 266; and when sin 266 is accomplished 658, it brings 616 forth 616 death 2288.

 1:16 Do not be deceived 4105, my beloved 27 brethren 80.

 1:17 Every 3956 good 18 thing 1394 given 1394 and every 3956 perfect 5046 gift 1434 is from above 509, coming 2597 down 2597 from the Father 3962 of lights 5457, with whom 3739 there 1762 is no 3756 variation 3883 or 2228 shifting 5157 shadow 644.

 1:18 In the exercise of His will 1014 He brought 616 us forth 616 by the word 3056 of truth 225, so 1519 that we would be a kind 5100 of first 536 fruits 536 among His creatures 2938.

 1:19 ¶ [This] you know 3609a, my beloved 27 brethren 80. But everyone 3956 must be quick 5036 to hear 191, slow 1021 to speak 2980 [and] slow 1021 to anger 3709;

 1:20 for the anger 3709 of man 435 does not achieve 2038b the righteousness 1343 of God 2316.

 1:21 Therefore 1352, putting 659 aside 659 all 3956 filthiness 4507b and [all] that remains 4050 of wickedness 2549, in humility 4240 receive 1209 the word 3056 implanted 1721, which is able 1410 to save 4982 your souls 5590.

 1:22 But prove 1096 yourselves doers 4163 of the word 3056, and not merely 3441 hearers 202 who delude 3884 themselves 1438.

 1:23 For if 1487 anyone 5100 is a hearer 202 of the word 3056 and not a doer 4163, he is like 1858a a man 435 who looks 2657 at his natural 1078 face 4383 in a mirror 2072;

 1:24 for [once] he has looked 2657 at himself 1438 and gone 565 away 565, he has immediately 2112 forgotten 1950 what 3697 kind 3697 of person 3697 he was.

 1:25 But one who looks 3879 intently 3879 at the perfect 5046 law 3551, the [law] of liberty 1657, and abides 3887 by it, not having become 1096 a forgetful 1953 hearer 202 but an effectual 2041 doer 4163, this 3778 man 3778 will be blessed 3107 in what 4162 he does 4162.

 1:26 ¶ If 1487 anyone 5100 thinks 1380 himself to be religious 2357, and yet does not bridle 5468 his tongue 1100 but deceives 538 his [own] heart 2588, this 3778 man’s 3778 religion 2356 is worthless 3152.

 1:27 Pure 2513 and undefiled 283 religion 2356 in the sight 3844 of [our] God 2316 and Father 3962 is this 3778: to visit 1980a orphans 3737 and widows 5503 in their distress 2347, [and] to keep 5083 oneself 1438 unstained 784 by the world 2889.
