James 2

1 It is not agreeable to Christian profession to regard the rich, and to despise the poor brethren: 13 rather we are to be loving and merciful: 14 and not to boast of faith where no deeds are, 17 which is but a dead faith, 19 the faith of devils, 21 not of Abraham, 25 and Rahab.

 2:1 My brethren 80, do not hold 2192 your faith 4102 in our glorious 1391 Lord 2962 Jesus 2424 Christ 5547 with [an attitude of] personal 4382 favoritism 4382.

 2:2 For if 1437 a man 435 comes 1525 into your assembly 4864 with a gold 5554 ring 5554 and dressed in fine 2986 clothes 2066, and there also 2532 comes 1525 in a poor 4434 man 4434 in dirty 4508 clothes 2066,

 2:3 and you pay 1914 special 1914 attention 1914 to the one who is wearing 5409 the fine 2986 clothes 2066, and say 3004, “You sit 2521 here 5602 in a good 2573 place,” and you say 3004 to the poor 4434 man 4434, “You stand 2476 over 1563 there 1563, or 2228 sit 2521 down 2521 by my footstool 5286,”

 2:4 have you not made 1252 distinctions 1252 among 1722 yourselves 1438, and become 1096 judges 2923 with evil 4190 motives 1261?

 2:5 Listen 191, my beloved 27 brethren 80: did not God 2316 choose 1586 the poor 4434 of this 3588 world 2889 [to be] rich 4145 in faith 4102 and heirs 2818 of the kingdom 932 which 3739 He promised 1861 to those 3588 who love 25 Him?

 2:6 But you have dishonored 818 the poor 4434 man 4434. Is it not the rich 4145 who oppress 2616a you and personally 846 drag 1670 you into court 2922?

 2:7 Do they not blaspheme 987 the fair 2570 name 3686 by which you have been called 1941?

 2:8 ¶ If 1487, however 3305, you are fulfilling 5055 the royal 937 law 3551 according 2596 to the Scripture 1124, “YOU SHALL LOVE 25 YOUR NEIGHBOR 4139 AS YOURSELF 4572,” you are doing 4160 well 2573.

 2:9 But if 1487 you show 4380 partiality 4380, you are committing 2038b sin 266 [and] are convicted 1651 by the law 3551 as transgressors 3848.

 2:10 For whoever 3748 keeps 5083 the whole 3650 law 3551 and yet 1161 stumbles 4417 in one 1520 [point], he has become 1096 guilty 1777 of all 3956.

 2:11 For He who said 3004, “DO NOT COMMIT 3431 ADULTERY 3431,” also 2532 said 3004, “DO NOT COMMIT 5407 MURDER 5407.” Now 1161 if 1487 you do not commit 3431 adultery 3431, but do commit 5407 murder 5407, you have become 1096 a transgressor 3848 of the law 3551.

 2:12 So 3779 speak 2980 and so 3779 act 4160 as those who are to be judged 2919 by [the] law 3551 of liberty 1657.

 2:13 For judgment 2920 [will be] merciless 415b to one who has shown 4160 no 3361 mercy 1656; mercy 1656 triumphs 2620 over 2620 judgment 2920.

 2:14 ¶ What 5101 use 3786 is it, my brethren 80, if 1437 someone 5100 says 3004 he has 2192 faith 4102 but he has 2192 no 3361 works 2041? Can 1410 that faith 4102 save 4982 him?

 2:15 If 1437 a brother 80 or 2228 sister 79 is without 1131 clothing 1131 and in need 3007 of daily 2184 food 5160,

 2:16 and one 5100 of you says 3004 to them, “Go 5217 in peace 1515, be warmed 2328 and be filled 5526,” and yet 1161 you do not give 1325 them what 2006 is necessary 2006 for [their] body 4983, what 5101 use 3786 is that?

 2:17 Even 2532 so 3779 faith 4102, if 1437 it has 2192 no 3361 works 2041, is dead 3498, [being] by itself 1438.

 2:18 ¶ But someone 5100 may [well] say 3004, “You have 2192 faith 4102 and I have 2192 works 2041; show 1166 me your faith 4102 without 5565 the works 2041, and I will show 1166 you my faith 4102 by my works 2041.”

 2:19 You believe 4100 that God 2316 is one 1520. You do 4160 well 2573; the demons 1140 also 2532 believe 4100, and shudder 5425.

 2:20 But are you willing 2309 to recognize 1097, you foolish 2756 fellow 444, that faith 4102 without 5565 works 2041 is useless 692?

 2:21 Was not Abraham 11 our father 3962 justified 1344 by works 2041 when he offered 399 up Isaac 2464 his son 5207 on the altar 2379?

 2:22 You see 991 that faith 4102 was working 4903 with his works 2041, and as a result 1537 of the works 2041, faith 4102 was perfected 5048;

 2:23 and the Scripture 1124 was fulfilled 4137 which says 3004, “AND ABRAHAM 11 BELIEVED 4100 GOD 2316, AND IT WAS RECKONED 3049 TO HIM AS RIGHTEOUSNESS 1343,” and he was called 2564 the friend 5384 of God 2316.

 2:24 You see 3708 that a man 444 is justified 1344 by works 2041 and not by faith 4102 alone 3441.

 2:25 In the same 3668 way 3668, was not Rahab 4460 the harlot 4204 also 2532 justified 1344 by works 2041 when she received 5264 the messengers 32a and sent 1544b them out by another 2087 way 3668?

 2:26 For just 5618 as the body 4983 without 5565 [the] spirit 4151 is dead 3498, so 3779 also 2532 faith 4102 without 5565 works 2041 is dead 3498.
