 21:1 ¶
If one be found slain in the land which Jehovah thy God giveth thee to possess it, lying in the field, and it be not known who hath smitten him; |

[and] it be notº

hath slainºº
him: |
 21:2
then thy elders and thy judges shall come forth, and they shall measure unto the cities which are round about him that is slain: |
 21:2
Then thy eldersº
and thy judgesºº
shall come forth,ºº
and they shall measureºº
untoº
the citiesº
whichº
[are] round aboutº
him that is slain:º |
 21:3
and it shall be, that the city which is nearest unto the slain man, even the elders of that city shall take a heifer of the herd, which hath not been wrought with, and which hath not drawn in the yoke; |
 21:3
And it shall be,º
[that] the cityº
[which is] nextº
untoº
the slain man,º
even the eldersº
of thatº
cityº
shall takeºº
an heifer,ºº
whichº
hath notº
been wroughtº
with,ºº
[and] whichº
hath notº
drawnºº
in the yoke;º |
 21:4
and the elders of that city shall bring down the heifer unto a valley with running water, which is neither plowed nor sown, and shall break the heifer's neck there in the valley. |

And the eldersº
of thatº
cityº
shall bring downººº
the heiferº
untoº
a roughº
valley,º
whichº
is neitherº
earedºº
norº
sown,ºº
and shall strike offºººº
the heifer'sº
neckººº
thereº
in the valley:º |
 21:5
And the priests the sons of Levi shall come near; for them Jehovah thy God hath chosen to minister unto him, and to bless in the name of Jehovah; and according to their word shall every controversy and every stroke be. |

And the priestsº
the sonsº
of Leviº
shall come near;ºº
forº
them the LORDº
thy Godº
hath chosenºº
to ministerºº
unto him, and to blessºº
in the nameº
of the LORD;º
and byº
their wordº
shall everyº
controversyº
and everyº
strokeº
beº
[tried]: |
 21:6
And all the elders of that city, who are nearest unto the slain man, shall wash their hands over the heifer whose neck was broken in the valley; |
 21:6
And allº
the eldersº
of thatº
city,º
[that are] nextº
untoº
the slainº
[man], shall washººº
their handsº
overº
the heiferº
that is beheadedºº
in the valley:º |
 21:7
and they shall answer and say, Our hands have not shed this blood, neither have our eyes seen it. |
 21:7
And they shall answerºº
and say,ºº
Our handsº
have notº
shedººº
thisº
blood,º
neitherº
have our eyesº
seenºº
[it]. |
 21:8
Forgive, O Jehovah, thy people Israel, whom thou hast redeemed, and suffer not innocent blood [to remain] in the midst of thy people Israel. And the blood shall be forgiven them. |

Be merciful,ºº
O LORD,º
unto thy peopleº
Israel,º
whomº
thou hast redeemed,ºº
and layºº
notº
innocentº
bloodº
unto thy peopleº
of Israel'sº
charge.º
And the bloodº
shall be forgivenºº
them. |
 21:9
So shalt thou put away the innocent blood from the midst of thee, when thou shalt do that which is right in the eyes of Jehovah. |

the [guilt of] innocentº
bloodº
from amongºº
you, whenº
thou shalt doºº
[that which is] rightº
in the sightº
of the LORD.º |
 21:10 ¶
When thou goest forth to battle against thine enemies, and Jehovah thy God delivereth them into thy hands, and thou carriest them away captive, |

to warº
againstº
thine enemies,ºº
and the LORDº
thy Godº
hath deliveredºº
them into thine hands,º
and thou hast takenºº
them captive,º |
 21:11
and seest among the captives a beautiful woman, and thou hast a desire unto her, and wouldest take her to thee to wife; |

And seestºº
among the captivesº
a beautifulººº
woman,º
and hast a desireºº
unto her, that thou wouldest haveº
herºº
to thy wife;º |
 21:12
then thou shalt bring her home to thy house; and she shall shave her head, and pare her nails; |

Then thou shalt bringºº
her homeº
to thine house;º
and she shall shaveººº
her head,º
and pareººº
her nails;º |
 21:13
and she shall put the raiment of her captivity from off her, and shall remain in thy house, and bewail her father and her mother a full month: and after that thou shalt go in unto her, and be her husband, and she shall be thy wife. |

And she shall putººº
the raimentº
of her captivityº
from offºº
her, and shall remainºº
in thine house,º
and bewailººº
her fatherº
and her motherº
a fullº
month:º
and afterº
thatº
thou shalt goºº
inº
untoº
her, and be her husband,ººº
and she shall beº
thy wife.º |
 21:14
And it shall be, if thou have no delight in her, then thou shalt let her go whither she will; but thou shalt not sell her at all for money, thou shalt not deal with her as a slave, because thou hast humbled her. |

And it shall be,º
ifº
thou have no delightººº
in her, then thou shalt let her goºº
whither she will;º
but thou shalt notº
sellºº
her at allºº
for money,º
thou shalt notº
make merchandiseºº
of her, becauseºº
thou hast humbledºº
her. |
 21:15 ¶
If a man have two wives, the one beloved, and the other hated, and they have borne him children, both the beloved and the hated; and if the first-born son be hers that was hated; |
 21:15 ¶

oneº
beloved,ºº
and anotherº
hated,ºº
and they have bornºº
him children,º
[both] the belovedºº
and the hated;ºº
and [if] the firstbornº
sonº
beº
hers that was hated:º |
 21:16
then it shall be, in the day that he causeth his sons to inherit that which he hath, that he may not make the son of the beloved the first-born before the son of the hated, who is the first-born: |

Then it shall be,º
whenº
he makethº
his sonsº
to inheritººº
[that] whichº
he hath,º
[that] he mayºº
notº
makeºº
the sonº
of the belovedºº
firstbornºº
beforeºº
the sonº
of the hated,ºº
[which is indeed] the firstborn:º |
 21:17
but he shall acknowledge the first-born, the son of the hated, by giving him a double portion of all that he hath; for he is the beginning of his strength; the right of the first-born is his. |

If a man have a stubborn and rebellious son, that will not obey the voice of his father, or the voice of his mother, and, though they chasten him, will not hearken unto them; |

which will notº
obeyºº
the voiceº
of his father,º
or the voiceº
of his mother,º
and [that], when they have chastenedºº
him, will notº
hearkenºº
untoº
them: |
 21:19
then shall his father and his mother lay hold on him, and bring him out unto the elders of his city, and unto the gate of his place; |
 21:19
Then shall his fatherº
and his motherº
lay holdºº
on him, and bring him outººº
untoº
the eldersº
of his city,º
and untoº
the gateº
of his place;º |
 21:20
and they shall say unto the elders of his city, This our son is stubborn and rebellious, he will not obey our voice; he is a glutton, and a drunkard. |
 21:20
And they shall sayºº
untoº
the eldersº
of his city,º
Thisº
our sonº
[is] stubbornºº
and rebellious,ºº
he will notº
obeyºº
our voice;º
[he is] a glutton,ºº
and a drunkard.ºº |
 21:21
And all the men of his city shall stone him to death with stones: so shalt thou put away the evil from the midst of thee; and all Israel shall hear, and fear. |
 21:21
And allº
the menºº
of his cityº
shall stoneºº
him with stones,º
that he die:ºº
so shalt thou putºº
evilº
awayººº
from amongºº
you; and allº
Israelº
shall hear,ºº
and fear.ºº |
 21:22 ¶
And if a man have committed a sin worthy of death, and he be put to death, and thou hang him on a tree; |
 21:22 ¶
And ifº
a manº
have committedº
a sinº
worthyº
ofº
death,º
and he be to be put to death,ºº
and thou hangºº
him onº
a tree:º |
 21:23
his body shall not remain all night upon the tree, but thou shalt surely bury him the same day; for he that is hanged is accursed of God; that thou defile not thy land which Jehovah thy God giveth thee for an inheritance. |

thou shalt in any wiseºº
buryºº
him thatº

[is] accursedº
