 12:1 ¶
But Ephraim is an evil spirit, he has chased the east wind all the day: he has multiplied empty and vain things, and made a covenant with the Assyrians, and oil has gone in the way of traffic into Mizraim{gr.Egypt}. |
|
 12:1 ¶
Ephraimº
feedethºº
on wind,º
and followethºº
afterº
the east wind:º
he dailyºº
increasethºº
liesº
and desolation;º
and they do makeºº
a covenantº
withº
the Assyrians,º
and oilº
is carriedºº
into Egypt.º |
 12:2
And the Lord [has] a controversy with Judah{gr.Juda}, in order to punish Jacob: according to his ways and according to his practices will he recompense him. |
|
 12:2
Yahwehº
hath also a controversyº
withº
Judah,º
and will punishººº
Jacobº
according to his ways;º
according to his doingsº
will he recompenseºº
him. |
 12:3 ¶
He took his brother by the heel in the womb, and in his labours he had power with God. |
|
 12:3 ¶
He took his brotherº
by the heelºººº
in the womb,º
and by his strengthº
he had powerºº
withº
Elohim:º |
 12:4
And he prevailed with the angel and was strong: they wept, and intreated me: they found me in the house of On, and there [a word] was spoken to them. |
|
 12:4
Yea, he had powerººº
overº
the angel,º
and prevailed:ºº
he wept,ºº
and made supplicationºº
unto him: he foundºº
him [in] Bethel,º
and thereº
he spakeºº
withº
us; |
 12:5
But the Lord God Almighty shall be his memorial. |
|
 12:5
Even Yahwehº
Elohimº
Sabaoth;º
Yahwehº
[is] his memorial.º |
 12:6
Thou therefore shalt return to thy God: keep thou mercy and judgment, and draw nigh to thy God continually. |
|
 12:6
Therefore turnºº
thouº
to thy Elohim:º
keepºº
mercyº
and judgment,º
and waitºº
onº
thy Elohimº
continually.º |
 12:7 ¶
[As for] Canaan{gr.Chanaan}, in his hand is a balance of unrighteousness: he has loved to tyrannize. |
|
 12:7 ¶
[He is] a merchant,º
the balancesº
of deceitº
[are] in his hand:º
he lovethºº
to oppress.ºº |
 12:8
And Ephraim said, Nevertheless I am rich, I have found refreshment to myself. None of his labours shall be found [available] to him, by reason of the sins which he has committed. |
|
 12:8
And Ephraimº
said,ºº
Yetº
I am become rich,ºº
I have found me outºº
substance:º
[in] allº
my laboursº
they shall findºº
noneº
iniquityº
in me thatº
[were] sin.º |
 12:9
But I the Lord thy God brought thee up out of the land of Mizraim{gr.Egypt}: I will yet cause thee to dwell in tabernacles, according to the days of the feast. |
|
 12:9
And Iº
[that am] Yahwehº
thy Elohimº
from the landºº
of Egyptº
will yetº
make thee to dwellºº
in tabernacles,º
as in the daysº
of the solemn feast.º |
 12:10
And I will speak to the prophets, and I have multiplied visions, and by the means of the prophets I was represented. |
|
 12:10
I have also spokenºº
byº
the prophets,º
and Iº
have multipliedºº
visions,º
and used similitudes,ºº
by the ministryº
of the prophets.º |
 12:11
If Gilead{gr.Galaad} exists not, then the chiefs in Gilead{gr.Galaad} when they sacrificed were false, and their altars were as heaps on the ground of the field. |
|
 12:11
[Is there] iniquityº
[in] Gilead?º
surelyº
they areº
vanity:º
they sacrificeºº
bullocksº
in Gilgal;º
yea,º
their altarsº
[are] as heapsº
inº
the furrowsº
of the fields.º |
 12:12
And Jacob retreated into the plain of Syria, and Israel served for a wife, and waited for a wife. |
|
 12:12
And Jacobº
fledºº
into the countryº
of Syria,º
and Israelº
servedºº
for a wife,º
and for a wifeº
he keptºº
[sheep]. |
 12:13
And the Lord brought Israel out of the land of Mizraim{gr.Egypt} by a prophet, and by a prophet was he preserve. |
|
 12:13
And by a prophetº
Yahwehº
broughtººº
Israelº
out of Egypt,ºº
and by a prophetº
was he preserved.ºº |
 12:14
Ephraim was angry and excited, therefore his blood shall be poured out upon him, and the Lord shall recompense to him his reproach. |
|
 12:14
Ephraimº
provoked [him] to angerºº
most bitterly:º
therefore shall he leaveºº
his bloodº
uponº
him, and his reproachº
shall his Adonimº
returnºº
unto him. |
