 14:1 ¶ And it came to pass, when he went into the house of one of the rulers of the Pharisees on a sabbath to eat bread, that they were watching him.

 14:1 ¶ Andº it came to pass,ºº asº heº wentºº intoº the houseº of oneº of theº chiefº Phariseesº to eatºº breadº on the sabbathº day,º thatº theyº watchedºººº him.º

 14:2 And behold, there was before him a certain man that had the dropsy.

 14:2 And,º behold,ºº there wasºº a certainº manº beforeº himº which had the dropsy.º

 14:3 And Jesus answering spake unto the lawyers and Pharisees, saying, Is it lawful to heal on the sabbath, or not?

 14:3 Andº Jesusº answeringºº spakeºº untoº theº lawyersº andº Pharisees,º saying,ººº Is itº lawfulºº to healºº on theº sabbath day?º

 14:4 But they held their peace. And he took him, and healed him, and let him go.

 14:4 Andº theyº held their peace.ºº Andº he tookºº [him], and healedºº him,º andº let him go;ºº

 14:5 And he said unto them, Which of you shall have an ass or an ox fallen into a well, and will not straightway draw him up on a sabbath day?

 14:5 Andº answeredºº them,ºº saying,ºº Whichº of youº shall have an assº orº an oxº fallenºº intoº a pit,º andº willºº notº straightwayº pullºº himº outººº onº theº sabbathº day?º

 14:6 And they could not answer again unto these things.

 14:6 Andº they couldºº notº answerºº himº againººº toº these things.º

 14:7 ¶ And he spake a parable unto those that were bidden, when he marked how they chose out the chief seats; saying unto them,

 14:7 ¶ Andº he put forthºº a parableº toº those which were bidden,ºº when he markedºº howº they chose outºº theº chief rooms;º sayingºº untoº them,º

 14:8 When thou art bidden of any man to a marriage feast, sit not down in the chief seat; lest haply a more honorable man than thou be bidden of him,

 14:8 Whenº thou art biddenºº ofº anyº [man] toº a wedding,º sitºº notº downººº inº theº highest room;º lestº a more honourable manº than thouº beºº biddenºº ofº him;º

 14:9 and he that bade thee and him shall come and say to thee, Give this man place; and then thou shalt begin with shame to take the lowest place.

 14:9 Andº he that badeºº theeº andº himº comeºº and sayºº to thee,º Giveºº this manº place;º andºº thouº beginºº withº shameº to takeºº theº lowestº room.º

 14:10 But when thou art bidden, go and sit down in the lowest place; that when he that hath bidden thee cometh, he may say to thee, Friend, go up higher: then shalt thou have glory in the presence of all that sit at meat with thee.

 14:10 Butº whenº thou art bidden,ºº goºº and sit downºº inº theº lowestº room;º thatº whenº he that badeºº theeº cometh,ºº he may sayºº unto thee,º Friend,º go upºº higher:º thenº shalt thouº haveºº worshipº in the presenceº of them that sit at meatºº withº thee.º

 14:11 For everyone that exalteth himself shall be humbled; and he that humbleth himself shall be exalted.

 14:11 Forº whosoeverº exaltethºº himselfº shall be abased;ºº andº he that humblethºº himselfº shall be exalted.ºº

 14:12 ¶ And he said to him also that had bidden him, When thou makest a dinner or a supper, call not thy friends, nor thy brethren, nor thy kinsmen, nor rich neighbors; lest haply they also bid thee again, and a recompense be made thee.

 14:12 ¶ Thenº saidº heºº alsoº to him that badeºº him,º Whenº thou makestºº a dinnerº orº a supper,º callºº notº thyº friends,º norº thyº brethren,º neitherº thyº kinsmen,º norº [thy] richº neighbours;º lestº theyº alsoº bidºº theeº again,ººº andº a recompenceº be madeºº thee.º

 14:13 But when thou makest a feast, bid the poor, the maimed, the lame, the blind:

 14:13 Butº whenº thou makestºº a feast,º callºº the poor,º the maimed,º the lame,º the blind:º

 14:14 and thou shalt be blessed; because they have not [wherewith] to recompense thee: for thou shalt be recompensed in the resurrection of the just.

 14:14 Andº thou shalt beºº blessed;º forº they cannotººº recompenseºº thee:º forº thouº shalt be recompensedºº atº theº resurrectionº of theº just.º

 14:15 ¶ And when one of them that sat at meat with him heard these things, he said unto him, Blessed is he that shall eat bread in the kingdom of God.

 14:15 ¶ Andº when oneº of them that sat at meat withº himºº heardºº these things,º he saidºº unto him,º Blessedº [is] heº that shall eatºº breadº inº theº kingdomº of God.º

 14:16 But he said unto him, A certain man made a great supper; and he bade many:

 14:16 Thenº saidº heººº unto him,º A certainº manº madeºº a greatº supper,º andº badeºº many:º

 14:17 and he sent forth his servant at supper time to say to them that were bidden, Come; for [all] things are now ready.

 14:17 Andº sentºº hisºº servantº at supperº timeº to sayºº to them that were bidden,ºº Come;ºº forº all thingsº areºº nowº ready.º

 14:18 And they all with one [consent] began to make excuse. The first said unto him, I have bought a field, and I must needs go out and see it; I pray thee have me excused.

 14:18 Andº they allº withº oneº [consent] beganºº to make excuse.ºº Theº firstº saidºº unto him,º I have boughtºº a piece of ground,º andº I mustºº needsº goºº andº seeºº it:º I prayºº theeº haveºº meº excused.ºº

 14:19 And another said, I have bought five yoke of oxen, and I go to prove them; I pray thee have me excused.

 14:19 Andº anotherº said,ºº I have boughtºº fiveº yokeº of oxen,º andº I goºº to proveºº them:º I prayºº theeº haveºº meº excused.ºº

 14:20 And another said, I have married a wife, and therefore I cannot come.

 14:20 Andº anotherº said,ºº I have marriedºº a wife,º andº thereforeºº I cannotººº come.ºº

 14:21 And the servant came, and told his lord these things. Then the master of the house being angry said to his servant, Go out quickly into the streets and lanes of the city, and bring in hither the poor and maimed and blind and lame.

 14:21 Soº thatº servantº came,ºº and shewedºº hisºº lordº these things.º Thenº theº master of the houseº being angryºº saidºº to hisºº servant,º Go outºº quicklyº intoº theº streetsº andº lanesº of theº city,º andº bring inºº hitherº theº poor,º andº the maimed,º andº the halt,º andº the blind.º

 14:22 And the servant said, Lord, what thou didst command is done, and yet there is room.

 14:22 Andº theº servantº said,ºº Lord,º it is doneºº asº thou hast commanded,ºº andº yetº there isºº room.º

 14:23 And the lord said unto the servant, Go out into the highways and hedges, and constrain [them] to come in, that my house may be filled.

 14:23 Andº theº lordº saidºº untoº theº servant,º Go outºº intoº theº highwaysº andº hedges,º andº compelºº [them] to come in,ºº thatº myº houseº may be filled.ºº

 14:24 For I say unto you, that none of those men that were bidden shall taste of my supper.

 14:24 Forº I sayºº unto you,º Thatº noneº of thoseº menº whichº were biddenºº shall tasteºº of myº supper.º

 14:25 ¶ Now there went with him great multitudes: and he turned, and said unto them,

 14:25 ¶ Andº there wentºº greatº multitudesº withººº him:º andº he turned,ºº and saidºº untoº them,º

 14:26 If any man cometh unto me, and hateth not his own father, and mother, and wife, and children, and brethren, and sisters, yea, and his own life also, he cannot be my disciple.

 14:26 If anyº [man] comeºº toº me,º andº hateºº notº hisº father,º andº mother,º andº wife,º andº children,º andº brethren,º andº sisters,º yea,º andº his ownº lifeº also,º he cannotººº beºº myº disciple.º

 14:27 Whosoever doth not bear his own cross, and come after me, cannot be my disciple.

 14:27 Andº whosoeverº dothºº notº bearºº hisºº cross,º andº comeºº afterº me,º cannotººº beºº myº disciple.º

 14:28 For which of you, desiring to build a tower, doth not first sit down and count the cost, whether he have [wherewith] to complete it?

 14:28 Forº whichº ofº you,º intendingºº to buildºº a tower,º sittethºº notº downººº first,º and countethºº theº cost,º whetherº he haveºº [sufficient] toº finishºº [it]?

 14:29 Lest haply, when he hath laid a foundation, and is not able to finish, all that behold begin to mock him,

 14:29 Lestº haply,º afterº heº hath laidºº the foundation,º andº isºº notº ableººº to finishºº [it], allº that beholdºº [it] beginºº to mockºº him,º

 14:30 saying, This man began to build, and was not able to finish.

 14:30 Saying,ºº Thisºº manº beganºº to build,ºº andº wasºº notº ableººº to finish.ºº

 14:31 Or what king, as he goeth to encounter another king in war, will not sit down first and take counsel whether he is able with ten thousand to meet him that cometh against him with twenty thousand?

 14:31 Orº whatº king,º goingºº to makeºº warººº againstº anotherº king,º sittethºº notº downººº first,º andº consultethºº whetherº he beºº ableº withº tenº thousandº to meetºº him that comethºº againstº himº withº twentyº thousand?º

 14:32 Or else, while the other is yet a great way off, he sendeth an ambassage, and asketh conditions of peace.

 14:32 Or else,º while the otherº isºº yetº a great way off,º he sendethºº an ambassage,º and desirethºº conditionsºº ofº peace.º

 14:33 So therefore whosoever he be of you that renounceth not all that he hath, he cannot be my disciple.

 14:33 Soºº likewise,ºº whosoeverº he be ofº youº thatº forsakethºº notº allº that he hath,ººº he cannotººº beºº myº disciple.º

 14:34 ¶ Salt therefore is good: but if even the salt have lost its savor, wherewith shall it be seasoned?

 14:34 ¶ Saltº [is] good:º butº ifº theº saltº have lost his savour,ºº wherewithºº shall it be seasoned?ºº

 14:35 It is fit neither for the land nor for the dunghill: [men] cast it out. He that hath ears to hear, let him hear.

 14:35 It isºº neitherº fitº forº the land,º nor yetº forº the dunghill;º [but] men castºº itº out.º He that hathºº earsº to hear,ºº let him hear.ºº
