 16:1 ¶ These things have I spoken unto you, that ye should not be caused to stumble.

 16:1 ¶ These thingsº have I spokenºº unto you,º thatººº ye shouldºº notºº be offended.ºº

 16:2 They shall put you out of the synagogues: yea, the hour cometh, that whosoever killeth you shall think that he offereth service unto God.

 16:2 They shall putºº youº out of the synagogues:º yea,º the timeº cometh,ºº thatº whosoeverº killethºº youº will thinkºº that he doethºº Godº service.º

 16:3 And these things will they do, because they have not known the Father, nor me.

 16:3 Andº these thingsº will they doºº unto you,º becauseº they haveºº notº knownºº theº Father,º norº me.º

 16:4 But these things have I spoken unto you, that when their hour is come, ye may remember them, how that I told you. And these things I said not unto you from the beginning, because I was with you.

 16:4 Butº these thingsº have I toldºº you,º thatº whenº theº timeº shall come,ºº ye may rememberºº thatº Iº toldºº youº of them.º Andº these thingsº I saidºº notº unto youº atº the beginning,º becauseº I wasºº withº you.º

 16:5 But now I go unto him that sent me; and none of you asketh me, Whither goest thou?

 16:5 Butº nowº I go my wayºº toºº him that sentºº me;º andº noneº ofº youº askethºº me,º Whitherº goestº thou?ºº

 16:6 But because I have spoken these things unto you, sorrow hath filled your heart.

 16:6 Butº becauseº I have saidºº these thingsº unto you,º sorrowº hath filledºº yourº heart.º

 16:7 Nevertheless I tell you the truth: It is expedient for you that I go away; for if I go not away, the Comforter will not come unto you; but if I go, I will send him unto you.

 16:7 Neverthelessº Iº tellºº youº theº truth;º It is expedientºº for youº thatº Iº go away:ºº forº ifºº Iº goºº notº away,ººº theº Comforterº willºº notº comeºº untoº you;º butº ifº I depart,ºº I will sendºº himº untoº you.º

 16:8 And he, when he is come, will convict the world in respect of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment:

 16:8 Andº when heº is come,ºº heº will reproveºº theº worldº ofº sin,º andº ofº righteousness,º andº ofº judgment:º

 16:9 of sin, because they believe not on me;

 16:9 Ofº sin,ºº becauseº they believeºº notº onº me;º

 16:10 of righteousness, because I go to the Father, and ye behold me no more;

 16:10 º Ofºº righteousness,º becauseº I goºº toº myº Father,º andº ye seeºº meº noº more;ºº

 16:11 of judgment, because the prince of this world hath been judged.

 16:11 º Ofºº judgment,º becauseº theº princeº of thisº worldº is judged.ºº

 16:12 I have yet many things to say unto you, but ye cannot bear them now.

 16:12 I haveºº yetº many thingsº to sayºº unto you,º butº ye cannotººº bearº themºº now.º

 16:13 Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he shall guide you into all the truth: for he shall not speak from himself; but what things soever he shall hear, [these] shall he speak: and he shall declare unto you the things that are to come.

 16:13 Howbeitº whenº he,º theº Spiritº of truth,º is come,ºº he will guideºº youº intoº allº truth:º forº he shallºº notº speakºº ofº himself;º butº whatsoeverºº he shall hear,ºº [that] shall he speak:ºº andº he will shewºº youº things to come.ºº

 16:14 He shall glorify me: for he shall take of mine, and shall declare [it] unto you.

 16:14 Heº shall glorifyºº me:º forº he shall receiveºº ofº mine,º andº shall shewºº [it] unto you.º

 16:15 All things whatsoever the Father hath are mine: therefore said I, that he taketh of mine, and shall declare [it] unto you.

 16:15 All thingsº thatº theº Fatherº hathºº areºº mine:º thereforeºº saidº I,ºº thatº he shall takeºº ofº mine,º andº shall shewºº [it] unto you.º

 16:16 A little while, and ye behold me no more; and again a little while, and ye shall see me.

 16:16 A little while,º andº ye shallºº notº seeºº me:º andº again,º a little while,º andº ye shall seeºº me,º becauseº Iº goºº toº theº Father.º

 16:17 [Some] of his disciples therefore said one to another, What is this that he saith unto us, A little while, and ye behold me not; and again a little while, and ye shall see me: and, Because I go to the Father?

 16:17 Thenº saidºº [some] ofº hisº disciplesº amongº themselves,º Whatº isºº thisº thatº he saithºº unto us,º A little while,º andº ye shallºº notº seeºº me:º andº again,º a little while,º andº ye shall seeºº me:º and,º Becauseº Iº goºº toº theº Father?º

 16:18 They said therefore, What is this that he saith, A little while? We know not what he saith.

 16:18 They saidºº therefore,º Whatº isºº thisº thatº he saith,ºº A little while?º we cannotººº tellººº whatº he saith.ºº

 16:19 Jesus perceived that they were desirous to ask him, and he said unto them, Do ye inquire among yourselves concerning this, that I said, A little while, and ye behold me not, and again a little while, and ye shall see me?

 16:19 Nowº Jesusº knewºº thatº they were desirousºº to askºº him,º andº saidºº unto them,º Do ye enquireºº amongº yourselvesº ofº thatºº I said,ºº A little while,º andº ye shallºº notº seeºº me:º andº again,º a little while,º andº ye shall seeºº me?º

 16:20 Verily, verily, I say unto you, that ye shall weep and lament, but the world shall rejoice: ye shall be sorrowful, but your sorrow shall be turned into joy.

 16:20 Verily,º verily,º I sayºº unto you,º Thatº yeº shall weepºº andº lament,ºº butº theº worldº shall rejoice:ºº andº yeº shall be sorrowful,ºº butº yourº sorrowº shall be turnedºº intoº joy.º

 16:21 A woman when she is in travail hath sorrow, because her hour is come: but when she is delivered of the child, she remembereth no more the anguish, for the joy that a man is born into the world.

 16:21 A womanº whenº she is in travailºº hathºº sorrow,º becauseº herº hourº is come:ºº butº as soon asº she is deliveredºº of theº child,º she rememberethºº noº moreºº theº anguish,º forº joyº thatº a manº is bornºº intoº theº world.º

 16:22 And ye therefore now have sorrow: but I will see you again, and your heart shall rejoice, and your joy no one taketh away from you.

 16:22 Andº yeºº nowº thereforeºº haveºº sorrow:º butº I will seeºº youº again,º andº yourº heartº shall rejoice,ºº andº yourº joyº no manº takethºº fromº you.º

 16:23 And in that day ye shall ask me no question. Verily, verily, I say unto you, if ye shall ask anything of the Father, he will give it you in my name.

 16:23 Andº inº thatº dayº ye shallº askºº meº nothing.º Verily,º verily,º I sayºº unto you,ºº Whatsoeverºº ye shall askºº theº Fatherº inº myº name,º he will giveºº [it] you.º

 16:24 Hitherto have ye asked nothing in my name: ask, and ye shall receive, that your joy may be made full.

 16:24 Hithertoºº have yeº askedºº nothingºº inº myº name:º ask,ºº andº ye shall receive,ºº thatº yourº joyº may beºº full.ºº

 16:25 These things have I spoken unto you in dark sayings: the hour cometh, when I shall no more speak unto you in dark sayings, but shall tell you plainly of the Father.

 16:25 These thingsº have I spokenºº unto youº inº proverbs:º butº the timeº cometh,ºº whenº I shallºº noº moreºº speakºº unto youº inº proverbs,º butº I shall shewºº youº plainlyº ofº theº Father.º

 16:26 In that day ye shall ask in my name: and I say not unto you, that I will pray the Father for you;

 16:26 Atº thatº dayº ye shall askºº inº myº name:º andº I sayºº notº unto you,º thatº Iº will prayºº theº Fatherº forº you:º

 16:27 for the Father himself loveth you, because ye have loved me, and have believed that I came forth from the Father.

 16:27 Forº theº Fatherº himselfº lovethºº you,º becauseº yeº have lovedºº me,º andº have believedºº thatº Iº came outºº fromº God.º

 16:28 I came out from the Father, and am come into the world: again, I leave the world, and go unto the Father.

 16:28 I came forthºº fromº theº Father,º andº am comeºº intoº theº world:º again,º I leaveºº theº world,º andº goºº toº theº Father.º

 16:29 His disciples say, Lo, now speakest thou plainly, and speakest no dark saying.

 16:29 Hisº disciplesº saidºº unto him,º Lo,º nowº speakestº thouºº plainly,º andº speakestºº noº proverb.º

 16:30 Now know we that thou knowest all things, and needest not that any man should ask thee: by this we believe that thou camest forth from God.

 16:30 Nowº are we sureºº thatº thou knowestºº all things,º andº needestºº notººº thatº any manº should askºº thee:º byº thisº we believeºº thatº thou camest forthºº fromº God.º

 16:31 Jesus answered them, Do ye now believe?

 16:31 Jesusº answeredºº them,º Do yeºº nowº believe?ºº

 16:32 Behold, the hour cometh, yea, is come, that ye shall be scattered, every man to his own, and shall leave me alone: and [yet] I am not alone, because the Father is with me.

 16:32 Behold,ºº the hourº cometh,ºº yea,º isºº nowº come,ºº thatº ye shall be scattered,ºº every manº toº his own,º andº shall leaveºº meº alone:º andº yetº I amºº notº alone,º becauseº theº Fatherº isºº withº me.º

 16:33 These things have I spoken unto you, that in me ye may have peace. In the world ye have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.

 16:33 These thingsº I have spokenºº unto you,º thatº inº meº ye might haveºº peace.º Inº theº worldº ye shall haveºººº tribulation:º butº be of good cheer;ºº Iº have overcomeºº theº world.º
