When they were at the great stone which is in Gibeon, Amasa came to meet them. And Joab was girded with his apparel of war that he had put on, and thereon was a girdle with a sword fastened upon his loins in the sheath thereof; and as he went forth it fell out.

When they¹ [were] at¹ the greatª stoneª which¹ [is] in Gibeon,ª Amasaª wentª° beforeª them. And Joab'sª garmentª that he had put onª was girdedª° unto¹ him, and upon¹ it a girdleª [with] a swordª fastenedª° upon¹ his loinsª in the sheathª thereof; and as he¹ went forthª° it fell out.ª°

And they [were] by the great stone that is in Gibeon{gr.Gabaon}: and Amasa{gr.Amessai} went in before them: and Joab had upon him a military cloak over his apparel, and over it he was girded with a dagger fastened upon his loins in its scabbard: and the dagger came out, it even came out and fell.
