Daniel 5

1 Belshazzar's impious feast. 5 A handwriting, unknown to the magicians, troubleth the king. 10 At the commendation of the queen, Daniel is brought. 17 He, reproving the king of pride and idolatry, 25 readeth and interpreteth the writing. 30 The monarchy is translated to the Medes.

 5:1 Belshazzar 1113 the king 4430 held 5648 a great 7229 feast 3900 for a thousand 506 of his nobles 7261, and he was drinking 8355 wine 2562 in the presence 6903 of the thousand 506.

 5:2 When Belshazzar 1113 tasted 2942 the wine 2562, he gave 560 orders 560 to bring 858 the gold 1722 and silver 3702 vessels 3984 which 1768 Nebuchadnezzar 5020 his father 2 had taken 5312 out of the temple 1965 which 1768 [was] in Jerusalem 3390, so that the king 4430 and his nobles 7261, his wives 7695 and his concubines 3904 might drink 8355 from them.

 5:3 Then 116 they brought 858 the gold 1722 vessels 3984 that had been taken 5312 out of the temple 1965, the house 1005 of God 426 which 1768 [was] in Jerusalem 3390; and the king 4430 and his nobles 7261, his wives 7695 and his concubines 3904 drank 8355 from them.

 5:4 They drank 8355 the wine 2562 and praised 7624 the gods 426 of gold 1722 and silver 3702, of bronze 5174, iron 6523, wood 636 and stone 69.

 5:5 ¶ Suddenly 8160 the fingers 677 of a man’s 606 hand 3028 emerged 5312 and began writing 3790 opposite 6903 the lampstand 5043 on the plaster 1528 of the wall 3797 of the king’s 4430 palace 1965, and the king 4430 saw 2370 the back 6447 of the hand 3028 that did the writing 3790.

 5:6 Then 116 the king’s 4430 face 2122 grew 8133 pale 8133 and his thoughts 7476 alarmed 927 him, and his hip 2783 joints 7001 went 8271 slack 8271 and his knees 755a began knocking 5368 together 1668.

 5:7 The king 4430 called 7123 aloud 2429 to bring 5954 in the conjurers 826, the Chaldeans 3779 and the diviners 1505. The king 4430 spoke 6032 and said 560 to the wise 2445 men 2445 of Babylon 895, “Any 3606 man 606 who 1768 can read 7123 this 1836 inscription 3792 and explain 2331b its interpretation 6591 to me shall be clothed 3848 with purple 711 and [have] a necklace 2002 of gold 1722 around 5922 his neck 6676, and have 7981 authority 7981 as third 8533a [ruler] in the kingdom 4437.”

 5:8 Then 116 all 3606 the king’s 4430 wise 2445 men 2445 came 5954 in, but they could 3546 not read 7123 the inscription 3792 or make 3046 known 3046 its interpretation 6591 to the king 4430.

 5:9 Then 116 King 4430 Belshazzar 1113 was greatly 7690 alarmed 927, his face 2122 grew 8133 [even] paler 8133, and his nobles 7261 were perplexed 7672.

 5:10 ¶ The queen 4433 entered 5954 the banquet 4961 hall 1005 because 6903 of the words 4406 of the king 4430 and his nobles 7261; the queen 4433 spoke 6032 and said 560, “O king 4430, live 2418 forever 5957! Do not let your thoughts 7476 alarm 927 you or your face 2122 be pale 8133.

 5:11 “There 383 is a man 1400 in your kingdom 4437 in whom 1768 is a spirit 7308 of the holy 6922 gods 426; and in the days 3118 of your father 2, illumination 5094b, insight 7924 and wisdom 2452 like the wisdom 2452 of the gods 426 were found 7912 in him. And King 4430 Nebuchadnezzar 5020, your father 2, your father 2 the king 4430, appointed 6966 him chief 7229 of the magicians 2749, conjurers 826, Chaldeans 3779 [and] diviners 1505.

 5:12 “[This was] because 3606 6903 1768 an extraordinary 3493 spirit 7308, knowledge 4486 and insight 7924, interpretation 6590 of dreams 2493, explanation 263 of enigmas 280 and solving 8271 of difficult 7001 problems 7001 were found 7912 in this Daniel 1841, whom 1768 the king 4430 named 8036 Belteshazzar 1096. Let Daniel 1841 now 3705 be summoned 7123 and he will declare 2331b the interpretation 6591.”

 5:13 ¶ Then 116 Daniel 1841 was brought 5954 in before 6925 the king 4430. The king 4430 spoke 6032 and said 560 to Daniel 1841, “Are you that Daniel 1841 who 1768 is one of the exiles 1123 1547 from Judah 3061, whom 1768 my father 2 the king 4430 brought 858 from Judah 3061?

 5:14 “Now I have heard 8086 about 5922 you that a spirit 7308 of the gods 426 is in you, and that illumination 5094b, insight 7924 and extraordinary 3493 wisdom 2452 have been found 7912 in you.

 5:15 “Just now 3705 the wise 2445 men 2445 [and] the conjurers 826 were brought 5954 in before 6925 me that they might read 7123 this 1836 inscription 3792 and make 3046 its interpretation 6591 known 3046 to me, but they could 3546 not declare 2331b the interpretation 6591 of the message 4406.

 5:16 “But I personally 576 have heard 8086 about 5922 you, that you are able 3202 to give 6590 interpretations 6590 and solve 8271 difficult 7001 problems 7001. Now 3705 if 2006 you are able 3202 to read 7123 the inscription 3792 and make 3046 its interpretation 6591 known 3046 to me, you will be clothed 3848 with purple 711 and [wear] a necklace 2002 of gold 1722 around 5922 your neck 6676, and you will have 7981 authority 7981 as the third 8531 [ruler] in the kingdom 4437.”

 5:17 ¶ Then 116 Daniel 1841 answered 6032 and said 560 before 6925 the king 4430, “Keep your gifts 4978 for yourself or give 3052 your rewards 5023 to someone 321 else 321; however 1297, I will read 7123 the inscription 3792 to the king 4430 and make 3046 the interpretation 6591 known 3046 to him.

 5:18 “O king 4430, the Most 5943 High 5943 God 426 granted 3052 sovereignty 4437, grandeur 7238, glory 3367 and majesty 1923 to Nebuchadnezzar 5020 your father 2.

 5:19 “Because 4481 of the grandeur 7238 which 1768 He bestowed 3052 on him, all 3606 the peoples 5972, nations 524 and [men of every] language 3961 feared 1763 and trembled 2112 before 6925 him; whomever 1768 he wished 6634 he killed 6992 and whomever 1768 he wished 6634 he spared 2418 alive 2418; and whomever 1768 he wished 6634 he elevated 7313 and whomever 1768 he wished 6634 he humbled 8214.

 5:20 “But when 1768 his heart 3825 was lifted 7313 up and his spirit 7308 became 8631 so proud 8631 that he behaved 2103 arrogantly 2103, he was deposed 5182 from his royal 4437 throne 3764 and [his] glory 3367 was taken 5709 away 5709 from him.

 5:21 “He was also driven 2957 away 2957 from mankind 606, and his heart 3825 was made 7739a like 5974 7739a [that of] beasts 2423, and his dwelling 4070 place 4070 [was] with the wild 6167 donkeys 6167. He was given 2939 grass 6212b to eat 2939 like cattle 8450, and his body 1655 was drenched 6647 with the dew 2920 of heaven 8065 until 5705 1768 he recognized 3046 that the Most 5943 High 5943 God 426 is ruler 7990 over the realm 4437 of mankind 606 and [that] He sets 6966 over 5922 it whomever 4479 1768 He wishes 6634.

 5:22 “Yet you, his son 1247, Belshazzar 1113, have not humbled 8214 your heart 3825, even 1768 though 6903 you knew 3046 all 3606 this 1836,

 5:23 but you have exalted 7313 yourself against 5922 the Lord 4756 of heaven 8065; and they have brought 858 the vessels 3984 of His house 1005 before 6925 you, and you and your nobles 7261, your wives 7695 and your concubines 3904 have been drinking 8355 wine 2562 from them; and you have praised 7624 the gods 426 of silver 3702 and gold 1722, of bronze 5174, iron 6523, wood 636 and stone 69, which 1768 do not see 7200, hear 8086 or understand 3046. But the God 426 in whose 1768 hand 3028 are your life-breath 5396 and all your ways 735, you have not glorified 1922.

 5:24 “Then 116 the hand 3028 was sent 7972 from Him and this 1836 inscription 3792 was written 7560 out.

 5:25 ¶ “Now this 1836 is the inscription 3792 that was written 7560 out: ‘MENĒ 4484, MENĒ 4484, TEKĒL 8625b, UPHARSIN 6537b.’

 5:26 “This 1836 is the interpretation 6591 of the message 4406: ‘MENĒ 4484’—God 426 has numbered 4483 your kingdom 4437 and put 8000 an end 8000 to it.

 5:27 “ ‘TEKĒL 8625b’—you have been weighed 8625a on the scales 3977 and found 7912 deficient 2627.

 5:28 “ ‘PERĒS 6537b’—your kingdom 4437 has been 6537a divided 6537a and given 3052 over to the Medes 4076 and Persians 6540.”

 5:29 ¶ Then 116 Belshazzar 1113 gave 560 orders 560, and they clothed 3848 Daniel 1841 with purple 711 and [put] a necklace 2002 of gold 1722 around 5922 his neck 6676, and issued 3745 a proclamation 3745 concerning 5922 him that he [now] had 1934 authority 7990 as the third 8531 [ruler] in the kingdom 4437.

 5:30 ¶ That same night 3916 Belshazzar 1113 the Chaldean 3779 king 4430 was slain 6992.

 5:31 So Darius 1868 the Mede 4077 received 6902 the kingdom 4437 at about the age 1247 8140 of sixty-two 8361 8648.
