 1:1 ¶ The burdenº of Nînwì נִינוֵה.º The bookº of the visionº of Naçûm נַחוּםº the ´Elköšî אֶלקֹשִׁי.º

 1:1 ¶ The burden of Ninweh. The book of the vision of Nachum the Elqoshi.

 1:2 ´Ël אֵלº [is] jealous,º and Yähwè יָהוֶהº revengeth;ºº Yähwè יָהוֶהº revengeth,ºº and [is] furious;ºº Yähwè יָהוֶהº will take vengeanceºº on his adversaries,º and heº reservethºº [wrath] for his enemies.ºº

 1:2 El [is] jealous, and Yahweh revengeth; Yahweh revengeth, and [is] furious; Yahweh will take vengeance on his adversaries, and he reserveth [wrath] for his enemies.

 1:3 Yähwè יָהוֶהº [is] slowº to anger,º and greatº in power,º and will not at allºº acquitººº [the wicked]: Yähwè יָהוֶהº hath his wayº in the whirlwindº and in the storm,º and the cloudsº [are] the dustº of his feet.º

 1:3 Yahweh [is] slow to anger, and great in power, and will not at all acquit [the wicked]: Yahweh hath his way in the whirlwind and in the storm, and the clouds [are] the dust of his feet.

 1:4 He rebukethºº the sea,º and maketh it dry,ººº and drieth upººº allº the rivers:º Bäšän בָּשָׁןº languisheth,ºº and Carmel כַּרמֶל,º and the flowerº of Lævänôn לְבָנוֹןº languisheth.ºº

 1:4 He rebuketh the sea, and maketh it dry, and drieth up all the rivers: Bashan languisheth, and Karmel, and the flower of Levanon languisheth.

 1:5 The mountainsº quakeºº atº him, and the hillsº melt,ºº and the earthº is burnedºº at his presence,ºº yea, the world,º and allº that dwellºº therein.

 1:5 The mountains quake at him, and the hills melt, and the earth is burned at his presence, yea, the world, and all that dwell therein.

 1:6 Whoº can standºº beforeº his indignation?º and whoº can abideºº in the fiercenessº of his anger?º his furyº is poured outºº like fire,º and the rocksº are thrown downºº byº him.

 1:6 Who can stand before his indignation? and who can abide in the fierceness of his anger? his fury is poured out like fire, and the rocks are thrown down by him.

 1:7 Yähwè יָהוֶהº [is] good,º a strong holdº in the dayº of trouble;º and he knowethºº them that trustºº in him.

 1:7 Yahweh [is] good, a strong hold in the day of trouble; and he knoweth them that trust in him.

 1:8 But with an overrunningºº floodº he will makeºº an utter endº of the placeº thereof, and darknessº shall pursueºº his enemies.ºº

 1:8 But with an overrunning flood he will make an utter end of the place thereof, and darkness shall pursue his enemies.

 1:9 Whatº do ye imagineºº againstº Yähwè יָהוֶה?º heº will makeºº an utter end:º afflictionº shall notº rise upºº the second time.º

 1:9 What do ye imagine against Yahweh? he will make an utter end: affliction shall not rise up the second time.

 1:10 Forº whileº [they be] folden togetherºº [as] thorns,º and while they are drunkenººº [as] drunkards,ºº they shall be devouredºº as stubbleº fullyºº dry.º

 1:10 For while [they be] folden together [as] thorns, and while they are drunken [as] drunkards, they shall be devoured as stubble fully dry.

 1:11 There is [one] come outºº ofº thee, that imaginethºº evilº againstº Yähwè יָהוֶה,º a wickedº counsellor.ºº

 1:11 There is [one] come out of thee, that imagineth evil against Yahweh, a wicked counsellor.

 1:12 Thusº saithºº Yähwè יָהוֶה;º Thoughº [they be] quiet,º and likewiseº many,º yet thusº shall they be cut down,ºº when he shall pass through.ºº Though I have afflictedºº thee, I will afflictºº thee noº more.º

 1:12 Thus saith Yahweh; Though [they be] quiet, and likewise many, yet thus shall they be cut down, when he shall pass through. Though I have afflicted thee, I will afflict thee no more.

 1:13 For nowº will I breakºº his yokeº from offºº thee, and will burstºº thy bondsº in sunder.ººº

 1:13 For now will I break his yoke from off thee, and will burst thy bonds in sunder.

 1:14 And Yähwè יָהוֶהº hath given a commandmentºº concerningº thee, [that] noº moreº of thy nameºº be sown:ºº out of the houseºº of thy ´élöhîm אֱלֹהִיםº will I cut offºº the graven imageº and the molten image:º I will makeºº thy grave;º forº thou art vile.ºº

 1:14 And Yahweh hath given a commandment concerning thee, [that] no more of thy name be sown: out of the house of thy elohim will I cut off the graven image and the molten image: I will make thy grave; for thou art vile.

 1:15 Beholdº uponº the mountainsº the feetº of him that bringeth good tidings,ºº that publishethºº peace!º O Yæhûðà יְהוּדָה,º keepºº thy solemn feasts,º performºº thy vows:º forº the wickedº shall noº moreººº pass throughºº thee; he is utterlyº cut off.ºº

 1:15 Behold upon the mountains the feet of him that bringeth good tidings, that publisheth peace! O Yehudah, keep thy solemn feasts, perform thy vows: for the wicked shall no more pass through thee; he is utterly cut off.
