 4:1 ¶
Howº
is the goldº
become dim!ºº
[how] is the mostº
fine goldº
changed!ºº
the stonesº
of the sanctuaryº
are poured outºº
in the topº
of everyº
street.º |
|
 4:1 ¶
How is the gold become dim! [how] is the most fine gold changed! the stones of the sanctuary are poured out in the top of every street. |
 4:2
The preciousº
sonsº
of
Xiyyôn
צִיּוֹן,º
comparableºº
to fine gold,º
howº
are they esteemedºº
as earthenº
pitchers,º
the workº
of the handsº
of the potter!ºº |
|
 4:2
The precious sons of Tziyyon, comparable to fine gold, how are they esteemed as earthen pitchers, the work of the hands of the potter! |
 4:3
Evenº
the sea monstersºº
draw outºº
the breast,º
they give suckºº
to their young ones:º
the daughterº
of my peopleº
[is become] cruel,º
like the ostrichesº
in the wilderness.º |
|
 4:3
Even the sea monsters draw out the breast, they give suck to their young ones: the daughter of my people [is become] cruel, like the ostriches in the wilderness. |
 4:4
The tongueº
of the sucking childºº
cleavethºº
toº
the roof of his mouthº
for thirst:º
the young childrenº
askºº
bread,º
[and] no manº
breakethºº
[it] unto them. |
|
 4:4
The tongue of the sucking child cleaveth to the roof of his mouth for thirst: the young children ask bread, [and] no man breaketh [it] unto them. |
 4:5
They that did feedºº
delicatelyº
are desolateºº
in the streets:º
they that were brought upºº
inº
scarletº
embraceºº
dunghills.º |
|
 4:5
They that did feed delicately are desolate in the streets: they that were brought up in scarlet embrace dunghills. |
 4:6
For the punishment of the iniquityº
of the daughterº
of my peopleº
is greaterºº
than the punishmentº
of the sinºº
of
Sæðöm
סְדֹם,º
that was overthrownºº
as inº
a moment,º
and noº
handsº
stayedºº
on her. |
|
 4:6
For the punishment of the iniquity of the daughter of my people is greater than the punishment of the sin of Sedom, that was overthrown as in a moment, and no hands stayed on her. |
 4:7
Her
Næzirîm
נְזִרִיםº
were purerºº
than snow,ºº
they were whiterºº
than milk,ºº
they were more ruddyºº
in bodyº
than rubies,ºº
their polishingº
[was] of sapphire:º |
|
 4:7
Her Nezirim were purer than snow, they were whiter than milk, they were more ruddy in body than rubies, their polishing [was] of sapphire: |
 4:8
Their visageº
is blackerºº
than a coal;ºº
they are notº
knownºº
in the streets:º
their skinº
cleavethºº
toº
their bones;º
it is withered,ºº
it is becomeº
like a stick.º |
|
 4:8
Their visage is blacker than a coal; they are not known in the streets: their skin cleaveth to their bones; it is withered, it is become like a stick. |
 4:9
[They that be] slainº
with the swordº
areº
betterº
than [they that be] slainºº
with hunger:º
for theseºº
pine away,ºº
strickenºº
throughº
for [want of] the fruitsºº
of the field.º |
|
 4:9
[They that be] slain with the sword are better than [they that be] slain with hunger: for these pine away, stricken through for [want of] the fruits of the field. |
 4:10
The handsº
of the pitifulº
womenº
have soddenºº
their own children:º
they wereº
their meatºº
in the destructionº
of the daughterº
of my people.º |
|
 4:10
The hands of the pitiful women have sodden their own children: they were their meat in the destruction of the daughter of my people. |
 4:11
Yähwè
יָהוֶהº
hath accomplishedººº
his fury;º
he hath poured outºº
his fierceº
anger,º
and hath kindledºº
a fireº
in
Xiyyôn
צִיּוֹן,º
and it hath devouredºº
the foundationsº
thereof. |
|
 4:11
Yahweh hath accomplished his fury; he hath poured out his fierce anger, and hath kindled a fire in Tziyyon, and it hath devoured the foundations thereof. |
 4:12
The kingsº
of the earth,º
and allº
the inhabitantsºº
of the world,º
would notº
have believedºº
thatº
the adversaryº
and the enemyºº
should have enteredºº
into the gatesº
of
Yærûšälaim
יְרוּשָׁלִַם.º |
|
 4:12
The kings of the earth, and all the inhabitants of the world, would not have believed that the adversary and the enemy should have entered into the gates of Yerushalaim. |
 4:13 ¶
For the sinsºº
of her prophets,º
[and] the iniquitiesº
of her priests,º
that have shedºº
the bloodº
of the justº
in the midstº
of her, |
|
 4:13 ¶
For the sins of her prophets, [and] the iniquities of her priests, that have shed the blood of the just in the midst of her, |
 4:14
They have wanderedºº
[as] blindº
[men] in the streets,º
they have pollutedºº
themselves with blood,º
so that men couldºº
notº
touchºº
their garments.º |
|
 4:14
They have wandered [as] blind [men] in the streets, they have polluted themselves with blood, so that men could not touch their garments. |
 4:15
They criedºº
unto them, Departºº
ye; [it is] unclean;º
depart,ºº
depart,ºº
touchºº
not:º
whenº
they fled awayºº
andº
wandered,ºº
they saidºº
among the heathen,º
They shall noº
moreºº
sojournºº
[there]. |
|
 4:15
They cried unto them, Depart ye; [it is] unclean; depart, depart, touch not: when they fled away and wandered, they said among the heathen, They shall no more sojourn [there]. |
 4:16
The angerº
of
Yähwè
יָהוֶהº
hath dividedºº
them; he will noº
moreºº
regardºº
them: they respectedºº
notº
the personsº
of the priests,º
they favouredºº
notº
the elders.º |
|
 4:16
The anger of Yahweh hath divided them; he will no more regard them: they respected not the persons of the priests, they favoured not the elders. |
 4:17
As for us, our eyesº
as yetº
failedºº
forº
our vainº
help:º
in our watchingº
we have watchedºº
forº
a nationº
[that] could notº
saveºº
[us]. |
|
 4:17
As for us, our eyes as yet failed for our vain help: in our watching we have watched for a nation [that] could not save [us]. |
 4:18
They huntºº
our steps,º
that we cannot goºººº
in our streets:º
our endº
is near,ºº
our daysº
are fulfilled;ºº
forº
our endº
is come.ºº |
|
 4:18
They hunt our steps, that we cannot go in our streets: our end is near, our days are fulfilled; for our end is come. |
 4:19
Our persecutorsºº
areº
swifterº
than the eaglesºº
of the heaven:º
they pursuedºº
us uponº
the mountains,º
they laid waitºº
for us in the wilderness.º |
|
 4:19
Our persecutors are swifter than the eagles of the heaven: they pursued us upon the mountains, they laid wait for us in the wilderness. |
 4:20
The breathº
of our nostrils,º
the anointedº
of
Yähwè
יָהוֶה,º
was takenºº
in their pits,º
of whomº
we said,ºº
Under his shadowº
we shall liveºº
among the heathen.º |
|
 4:20
The breath of our nostrils, the anointed of Yahweh, was taken in their pits, of whom we said, Under his shadow we shall live among the heathen. |
 4:21 ¶
Rejoiceºº
and be glad,ºº
O daughterº
of
´Éðôm
אֱדוֹם,º
that dwellestºº
in the landº
of
`Ûx
עוּץ;º
the cupº
alsoº
shall passºº
throughº
untoº
thee: thou shalt be drunken,ºº
and shalt make thyself naked.ºº |
|
 4:21 ¶
Rejoice and be glad, O daughter of Edom, that dwellest in the land of Utz; the cup also shall pass through unto thee: thou shalt be drunken, and shalt make thyself naked. |
 4:22 ¶
The punishment of thine iniquityº
is accomplished,ºº
O daughterº
of
Xiyyôn
צִיּוֹן;º
he will noº
moreºº
carry thee away into captivity:ºº
he will visitºº
thine iniquity,º
O daughterº
of
´Éðôm
אֱדוֹם;º
he will discoverººº
thy sins.º |
|
 4:22 ¶
The punishment of thine iniquity is accomplished, O daughter of Tziyyon; he will no more carry thee away into captivity: he will visit thine iniquity, O daughter of Edom; he will discover thy sins. |
