[is] as the wiseº
[man]? and whoº
knowethºº
the interpretationº
of a thing?º
a man'sº
wisdomº
maketh his faceº
to shine,ºº
and the boldnessº
of his faceº
shall be changed.ºº |

8:1 ¶
Who [is] as the wise [man]? and who knoweth the interpretation of a thing? a man's wisdom maketh his face to shine, and the boldness of his face shall be changed. |

[counsel thee] to keepºº
the king'sº
commandment,º
and [that] in regardºº
of the oathº
of
´Élöhîm
אֱלֹהִים.º |

8:2
I [counsel thee] to keep the king's commandment, and [that] in regard of the oath of Elohim. |

8:3
Be notº
hastyºº
to goº
outºº
of his sight:ºº
standºº
notº
in an evilº
thing;º
forº
he doethºº
whatsoeverºº
pleasethºº
him. |
|
8:3
Be not hasty to go out of his sight: stand not in an evil thing; for he doeth whatsoever pleaseth him. |
|
8:4
Whereº
the wordº
of a kingº
[is, there is] power:º
and whoº
may sayºº
unto him, Whatº
doestºº
thou? |
|
8:4
Where the word of a king [is, there is] power: and who may say unto him, What doest thou? |
|
8:5
Whoso keepethºº
the commandmentº
shall feelºº
noº
evilº
thing:º
and a wise man'sº
heartº
discernethºº
both timeº
and judgment.º |

8:5
Whoso keepeth the commandment shall feel no evil thing: and a wise man's heart discerneth both time and judgment. |

8:6 ¶
Becauseº
to everyº
purposeº
there isº
timeº
and judgment,º
thereforeº
the miseryº
of manº
[is] greatº
uponº
him. |
|
8:6 ¶
Because to every purpose there is time and judgment, therefore the misery of man [is] great upon him. |
|
8:7
Forº
he knowethºº
notº
thatº
which shall be:ºº
forº
whoº
can tellºº
him whenº
it shall be?º |

8:7
For he knoweth not that which shall be: for who can tell him when it shall be? |
|
8:8
[There is] noº
manº
that hath powerº
over the spiritº
to retainººº
the spirit;º
neitherº
[hath he] powerº
in the dayº
of death:º
and [there is] noº
dischargeº
in [that] war;º
neitherº
shall wickednessº
deliverººº
those that are givenº
to it. |

[There is] no man that hath power over the spirit to retain the spirit; neither [hath he] power in the day of death: and [there is] no discharge in [that] war; neither shall wickedness deliver those that are given to it. |

Allº
thisº
have I seen,ºº
and appliedººº
my heartº
unto everyº
workº
thatº
is doneºº
underº
the sun:º
[there is] a timeº
whereinº
one manº
rulethºº
overº
anotherº
to his own hurt.º |

8:9
All this have I seen, and applied my heart unto every work that is done under the sun: [there is] a time wherein one man ruleth over another to his own hurt. |

8:10
And soº
I sawºº
the wickedº
buried,ºº
who had comeºº
and goneºº
from the placeºº
of the holy,º
and they were forgottenºº
in the cityº
whereº
they had soº
done:ºº
thisº
[is] alsoº
vanity.º |

8:10
And so I saw the wicked buried, who had come and gone from the place of the holy, and they were forgotten in the city where they had so done: this [is] also vanity. |

8:11
Becauseº
sentenceº
againstº
an evilº
workº
is notº
executedºº
speedily,º
thereforeºº
the heartº
of the sonsº
of menº
is fully setºº
in them to doºº
evil.º |
|
8:11
Because sentence against an evil work is not executed speedily, therefore the heart of the sons of men is fully set in them to do evil. |
|
8:12 ¶
Thoughº
a sinnerºº
doºº
evilº
an hundred times,º
and his [days] be prolonged,ºº
yetº
surelyº
Iº
knowºº
thatº
it shall beº
wellº
with them that fearº
´Élöhîm
אֱלֹהִים,º
whichº
fearºº
beforeºº
him: |

8:12 ¶
Though a sinner do evil an hundred times, and his [days] be prolonged, yet surely I know that it shall be well with them that fear Elohim, which fear before him: |
|
8:13
But it shall notº
beº
wellº
with the wicked,º
neitherº
shall he prolongºº
[his] days,º
[which are] as a shadow;º
becauseº
he fearethºº
notº
beforeºº
´Élöhîm
אֱלֹהִים.º |
|
8:13
But it shall not be well with the wicked, neither shall he prolong [his] days, [which are] as a shadow; because he feareth not before Elohim. |
|
8:14
There isº
a vanityº
whichº
is doneºº
uponº
the earth;º
thatº
there beº
justº
[men], unto whomºº
it happenethºº
according to the workº
of the wicked;º
again, there beº
wickedº
[men], toº
whom it happenethººº
according to the workº
of the righteous:º
I saidºº
that this alsoººº
[is] vanity.º |

8:14
There is a vanity which is done upon the earth; that there be just [men], unto whom it happeneth according to the work of the wicked; again, there be wicked [men], to whom it happeneth according to the work of the righteous: I said that this also [is] vanity. |

8:15
Then Iº
commendedººº
mirth,º
becauseº
a manº
hath noº
betterº
thingº
underº
the sun,º
thanºº
to eat,ºº
and to drink,ºº
and to be merry:ºº
for thatº
shall abideºº
with him of his labourº
the daysº
of his life,º
whichº
´Élöhîm
אֱלֹהִיםº
givethºº
him underº
the sun.º |

8:15
Then I commended mirth, because a man hath no better thing under the sun, than to eat, and to drink, and to be merry: for that shall abide with him of his labour the days of his life, which Elohim giveth him under the sun. |

8:16 ¶
Whenº
I appliedººº
mine heartº
to knowºº
wisdom,º
and to seeººº
the businessº
thatº
is doneºº
uponº
the earth:º

alsoº
[there is that] neitherº
dayº
nor nightº
seethºº
sleepº
with his eyes:)º |

8:16 ¶
When I applied mine heart to know wisdom, and to see the business that is done upon the earth: (for also [there is that] neither day nor night seeth sleep with his eyes:) |

Then I beheldººº
allº
the workº
of
´Élöhîm
אֱלֹהִים,º
thatº
a manº
cannotººº
find outººº
the workº
thatº
is doneºº
underº
the sun:º
becauseºº
thoughºº
a manº
labourºº
to seek [it] out,ºº
yet he shall notº
findºº
[it]; yeaº
further; thoughº
a wiseº
[man] thinkºº
to knowºº
[it], yet shall he notº
be ableºº
to findºº
[it]. |

8:17
Then I beheld all the work of Elohim, that a man cannot find out the work that is done under the sun: because though a man labour to seek [it] out, yet he shall not find [it]; yea further; though a wise [man] think to know [it], yet shall he not be able to find [it]. |
