Aramaic NT Parallel English Translations
Etheridge < < 1 Thesalonikoyee / Thessalonians 2 > > Murdock
1 In what manner the Gospel was brought and preached to the Thessalonians, and in what sort also they received it. 18 A reason is rendered both why Paul was so long absent from them, and also why he was so desirous to see them.
2:1
And you know, my brethren, that our entrance unto you was not in vain, |
|
2:1
And ye yourselves, my brethren, know our entrance among you, that it was not in vain: |
2:2
but having suffered before and been shamefully treated, as you know, in Philipos, and then (even) in great conflict we spoke with you with the confidence of our God the gospel of the Meshiha. |
|
2:2
but we first suffered and were treated with indignity, as ye know, at Philippi; and then, in a great agony, with confidence in our God, we addressed to you the gospel of the Messiah. |
2:3
For our exhortation was not from deceit, nor from uncleanness, nor from guile; |
|
2:3
For our exhortation proceeded not from deceit, nor from impurity, nor in guile: |
2:4
but as approved of Aloha to be intrusted with his gospel, so speaking as not to please men, but Aloha who trieth our hearts. |
|
2:4
but as we had been approved of God to be intrusted with the gospel, so we speak, not as pleasing men, but God who searcheth our hearts. |
2:5
For never have we used flattering speech, as you know, nor for an occasion of covetousness, Aloha witnesseth. |
|
2:5
For at no time have we used flattering speech; as ye know; nor a cloak of cupidity, God is witness. |
2:6
Neither have we sought glory from men, either from you or from others, though we could have been honoured ones, as the apostles of the Meshiha; |
|
2:6
Neither have we sought glory from men, either from you or from others, when we might have been chargeable as legates of the Messiah. |
2:7
but we were humble among you, and, as a nurse who loveth her children, |
|
2:7
But we were lowly among you; and like a nurse, who fondleth her children, |
2:8
so also we loved, and were desirous to impart to you, not only the gospel of Aloha, but also our life, because we loved you. |
|
2:8
so we also fondled [you], and were desirous to impart to you, not the gospel of God merely, but also our own soul, because ye were dear to us. |
2:9
Remember, therefore, my brethren, how we laboured and toiled in the work of our hands by night and by day, that we might not be a burden on one of you. |
|
2:9
For ye recollect, brethren, that we labored and toiled, working with our own hands, by night and by day, that we might not be chargeable to any one of you. |
2:10
You witness and Aloha, how we preached to you the gospel of Aloha, purely and justly, and were without blame with all the faithful. |
|
2:10
Ye are witnesses, and God [also], how we preached to you the gospel of God, purely, and uprightly, and were blameless towards all them that believe: |
2:11
As you know how every one of you, as a father his children, we exhorted, and spoke with your hearts; |
|
2:11
as yourselves know, we entreated each one of you, as a father his children, and comforted your hearts: |
2:12
and (now) we testify to you how you should walk worthy of Aloha himself who hath called you to his kingdom and to his glory. |
|
2:12
and we charged you, to walk as it becometh God, who hath called you to his kingdom and his glory. |
2:13 ¶
WHEREFORE we also give thanks constantly unto Aloha, that the word of Aloha which you received from us, was not as the word of man (that) you received (it), but, as it is truly, the word of Aloha, which in operation worketh (alike) in you and in all them who believe. |
|
2:13
Therefore also we give thanks unceasingly to God, that the word of God which ye received from us, ye did not receive as the word of men, but as being truly the word of God, which worketh efficiently in you and in them that believe. |
2:14
But you, my brethren, have become like the churches of Aloha which are in Jihud, who are in Jeshu Meshiha, because you likewise suffer from your fellow-country-men, as they also from the Jihudoyee; |
|
2:14
For ye, my brethren, became assimilated to the churches of God in Judaea, the persons who are in Jesus the Messiah; in that ye so suffered, even ye from your own countrymen, as also they from the Jews, |
2:15
who killed our Lord Jeshu Meshiha, and the prophets who were of them, and ourselves have persecuted, and Aloha have not pleased, and have acted adversely to all men; |
|
2:15
the persons who slew our Lord Jesus the Messiah, and persecuted their own prophets and us; and they please not God, and are made hostile to all men; |
2:16
who forbid us to speak with the Gentiles that they might be saved; to fill up their sins for all time: but upon them cometh the wrath unto the end! |
|
2:16
and they forbid us to speak to the Gentiles, that they may have life; to fill up their sins at all times. And wrath cometh on them to the uttermost. |
2:17 ¶
BUT we, my brethren, having been bereaved-ones of you the time of an hour, as to our presence, but not in our heart, have been the more solicitous to see your faces with great love, |
|
2:17
But we, my brethren, have been bereaved of you for a short time, (in visible presence, not in our hearts,) and have the more exerted ourselves, to behold your faces, with great affection. |
2:18
and have wished to come to you (even) I, Paulos, one time and two; but Satana hindered me. |
|
2:18
And we purposed to come to you, I Paul, once and again; but Satan hindered me. |
2:19
For what is our hope and our joy, and the crown of our glorying, but you, before our Lord Jeshu at his coming? |
|
2:19
For what is our hope, and our joy, and the crown of our glorying; unless it be ye, before our Lord Jesus at his coming? |
2:20
For you are our glory and our joy. |
|
2:20
For ye are our glory, and our joy. |
