 1:1 ¶
How doth the city sit solitary, that was full of people! She is become as a widow, that was great among the nations! She that was a princess among the provinces is become tributary! |
|
 1:1 ¶
Howº
doth the cityº
sitºº
solitary,º
[that was] fullº
of people!º
[how] is she becomeº
as a widow!º
she [that was] greatº
among the nations,º
[and] princessº
among the provinces,º
[how] is she becomeº
tributary!º |
 1:2
She weepeth sore in the night, and her tears are on her cheeks; Among all her lovers she hath none to comfort her: All her friends have dealt treacherously with her; they are become her enemies. |
 1:2
She weepethºº
soreºº
in the night,º
and her tearsº
[are] onº
her cheeks:º
among allºº
her loversºº
she hath noneº
to comfortºº
[her]: allº
her friendsº
have dealt treacherouslyºº
with her, they are becomeº
her enemies.ºº |
 1:3
Judah is gone into captivity because of affliction, and because of great servitude; She dwelleth among the nations, she findeth no rest: All her persecutors overtook her within the straits. |
 1:3
Judahº
is gone into captivityºº
because of affliction,ºº
and because of greatºº
servitude:º
sheº
dwellethºº
among the heathen,º
she findethºº
noº
rest:º
allº
her persecutorsºº
overtookºº
her betweenº
the straits.º |
 1:4
The ways of Zion do mourn, because none come to the solemn assembly; All her gates are desolate, her priests do sigh: Her virgins are afflicted, and she herself is in bitterness. |
 1:4
The waysº
of Zionº
do mourn,º
because noneºº
comeºº
to the solemn feasts:º
allº
her gatesº
are desolate:ºº
her priestsº
sigh,ºº
her virginsº
are afflicted,ºº
and sheº
[is] in bitterness.ºº |
 1:5
Her adversaries are become the head, her enemies prosper; For Jehovah hath afflicted her for the multitude of her transgressions: Her young children are gone into captivity before the adversary. |
 1:5
Her adversariesº
areº
the chief,º
her enemiesºº
prosper;ºº
forº
the LORDº
hath afflictedºº
her forº
the multitudeº
of her transgressions:º
her childrenº
are goneºº
into captivityº
beforeº
the enemy.º |
 1:6
And from the daughter of Zion all her majesty is departed: Her princes are become like harts that find no pasture, And they are gone without strength before the pursuer. |
 1:6
And fromº
the daughterº
of Zionº
allº
her beautyº
is departed:ºº
her princesº
are becomeº
like hartsº
[that] findºº
noº
pasture,º
and they are goneººº
withoutº
strengthº
beforeº
the pursuer.ºº |
 1:7
Jerusalem remembereth in the days of her affliction and of her miseries all her pleasant things that were from the days of old: When her people fell into the hand of the adversary, and none did help her, The adversaries saw her, they did mock at her desolations. |
 1:7
Jerusalemº
rememberedºº
in the daysº
of her afflictionº
and of her miseriesº
allº
her pleasant thingsº
thatº
she hadº
in the daysºº
of old,º
when her peopleº
fellºº
into the handº
of the enemy,º
and noneº
did helpºº
her: the adversariesº
sawºº
her, [and] did mockºº
atº
her sabbaths.º |
 1:8
Jerusalem hath grievously sinned; therefore she is become as an unclean thing; All that honored her despise her, because they have seen her nakedness: Yea, she sigheth, and turneth backward. |
 1:8
Jerusalemº
hath grievouslyº
sinned;ººº
thereforeºº
she isº
removed:º
allº
that honouredºº
her despiseººº
her, becauseº
they have seenºº
her nakedness:º
yea,º
sheº
sigheth,ºº
and turnethºº
backward.º |
 1:9
Her filthiness was in her skirts; she remembered not her latter end; Therefore is she come down wonderfully; she hath no comforter: Behold, O Jehovah, my affliction; for the enemy hath magnified himself. |
 1:9
Her filthinessº
[is] in her skirts;º
she rememberethºº
notº
her last end;º
therefore she came downºº
wonderfully:º
she had noº
comforter.ºº
O LORD,º
beholdººº
my affliction:º
forº
the enemyºº
hath magnifiedºº
[himself]. |
 1:10
The adversary hath spread out his hand upon all her pleasant things: For she hath seen that the nations are entered into her sanctuary, Concerning whom thou didst command that they should not enter into thine assembly. |
 1:10
The adversaryº
hath spread outºº
his handº
uponº
allº
her pleasant things:º
forº
she hath seenºº
[that] the heathenº
enteredºº
into her sanctuary,º
whomº
thou didst commandºº
[that] they should notº
enterºº
into thy congregation.º |
 1:11
All her people sigh, they seek bread; They have given their pleasant things for food to refresh the soul: See, O Jehovah, and behold; for I am become abject. |
 1:11
Allº
her peopleº
sigh,ºº
they seekºº
bread;º
they have givenºº
their pleasant thingsººº
for meatº
to relieveºº
the soul:º
see,ºº
O LORD,º
and consider;ºº
forº
I am becomeº
vile.ºº |
 1:12 ¶
Is it nothing to you, all ye that pass by? Behold, and see if there be any sorrow like unto my sorrow, which is brought upon me, Wherewith Jehovah hath afflicted [me] in the day of his fierce anger. |
 1:12 ¶
[Is it] nothingº
toº
you, allº
ye that passºº
by?ºº
behold,ºº
and seeºº
ifº
there beº
any sorrowº
like unto my sorrow,º
whichº
is doneºº
unto me, wherewithº
the LORDº
hath afflictedºº
[me] in the dayº
of his fierceº
anger.º |
 1:13
From on high hath he sent fire into my bones, and it prevaileth against them; He hath spread a net for my feet, he hath turned me back: He hath made me desolate and faint all the day. |
 1:13
From aboveºº
hath he sentºº
fireº
into my bones,º
and it prevailethºº
againstº
them: he hath spreadºº
a netº
for my feet,º
he hath turnedºº
me back:º
he hath madeºº
me desolateºº
[and] faintº
allº
the day.º |
 1:14
The yoke of my transgressions is bound by his hand; They are knit together, they are come up upon my neck; he hath made my strength to fail: The Lord hath delivered me into their hands, against whom I am not able to stand. |
 1:14
The yokeº
of my transgressionsº
is boundºº
by his hand:º
they are wreathed,ºº
[and] come upºº
uponº
my neck:º
he hath made my strengthº
to fall,ºº
the Lordº
hath deliveredºº
me into [their] hands,º
[from whom] I am not ableººº
to rise up.ºº |
 1:15
The Lord hath set at nought all my mighty men in the midst of me; He hath called a solemn assembly against me to crush my young men: The Lord hath trodden as in a winepress the virgin daughter of Judah. |
 1:15
The Lordº
hath trodden under footºº
allº
my mightyº
[men] in the midstº
of me: he hath calledºº
an assemblyº
againstº
me to crushºº
my young men:º
the Lordº
hath troddenºº
the virgin,º
the daughterº
of Judah,º
[as] in a winepress.º |
 1:16
For these things I weep; mine eye, mine eye runneth down with water; Because the comforter that should refresh my soul is far from me: My children are desolate, because the enemy hath prevailed. |
 1:16
Forº
theseº
[things] Iº
weep;ºº
mine eye,º
mine eyeº
runneth downºº
with water,º
becauseº
the comforterºº
that should relieveºº
my soulº
is farºº
fromº
me: my childrenº
areº
desolate,ºº
becauseº
the enemyºº
prevailed.ºº |
 1:17
Zion spreadeth forth her hands; there is none to comfort her; Jehovah hath commanded concerning Jacob, that they that are round about him should be his adversaries: Jerusalem is among them as an unclean thing. |
 1:17
Zionº
spreadeth forthºº
her hands,º
[and there is] noneº
to comfortºº
her: the LORDº
hath commandedºº
concerning Jacob,º
[that] his adversariesº
[should be] round aboutº
him: Jerusalemº
isº
as a menstruous womanº
amongº
them. |
 1:18 ¶
Jehovah is righteous; for I have rebelled against his commandment: Hear, I pray you, all ye peoples, and behold my sorrow: My virgins and my young men are gone into captivity. |
 1:18 ¶
The LORDº
is righteous;º
forº
I have rebelledºº
against his commandment:º
hear,ºº
I pray you,º
allº
people,º
and beholdºº
my sorrow:º
my virginsº
and my young menº
are goneºº
into captivity.º |
 1:19
I called for my lovers, [but] they deceived me: My priests and mine elders gave up the ghost in the city, While they sought them food to refresh their souls. |
 1:19
I calledºº
for my lovers,ºº
[but] theyº
deceivedºº
me: my priestsº
and mine eldersº
gave up the ghostºº
in the city,º
whileº
they soughtºº
their meatº
to relieveººº
their souls.º |
 1:20
Behold, O Jehovah; for I am in distress; my heart is troubled; My heart is turned within me; for I have grievously rebelled: Abroad the sword bereaveth, at home there is as death. |
 1:20
Behold,ºº
O LORD;º
forº
I [am] in distress:ººº
my bowelsº
are troubled;ºº
mine heartº
is turnedºº
withinº
me; forº
I have grievouslyºº
rebelled:ºº
abroadºº
the swordº
bereaveth,ºº
at homeº
[there is] as death.º |
 1:21
They have heard that I sigh; there is none to comfort me; All mine enemies have heard of my trouble; they are glad that thou hast done it: Thou wilt bring the day that thou hast proclaimed, and they shall be like unto me. |
 1:21
They have heardºº
thatº
Iº
sigh:ºº
[there is] noneº
to comfortºº
me: allº
mine enemiesºº
have heardºº
of my trouble;º
they are gladºº
thatº
thouº
hast doneºº
[it]: thou wilt bringºº
the dayº
[that] thou hast called,ºº
and they shall beº
likeº
unto me.º |
 1:22
Let all their wickedness come before thee; And do unto them, as thou hast done unto me for all my transgressions: For my sighs are many, and my heart is faint. |
 1:22
Let allº
their wickednessº
comeºº
beforeº
thee; and doºº
unto them, asº
thou hast doneºº
unto me forº
allº
my transgressions:º
forº
my sighsº
[are] many,º
and my heartº
[is] faint.º |
