 2:1 ¶
And Joshua the son of Nun sent out of Shittim two men as spies secretly, saying, Go, view the land, and Jericho. And they went and came into the house of a harlot whose name was Rahab, and lay there. |
|
 2:1 ¶
And Joshuaº
the sonº
of Nunº
sentºº
out ofº
Shittimº
twoº
menºº
to spyºº
secretly,º
saying,ºº
Goººº
viewººº
the land,º
even Jericho.º
And they went,ººº
and cameºº
intoº
an harlot'sººº
house,ºº
namedº
Rahab,º
and lodgedºº
there.º |
 2:2
And it was told the king of Jericho, saying, Behold, there came men in hither to-night of the children of Israel to search out the land. |
 2:2
And it was toldºº
the kingº
of Jericho,º
saying,ºº
Behold,º
there cameºº
menºº
in hitherº
to nightº
of the childrenºº
of Israelº
to search outººº
the country.º |
 2:3
And the king of Jericho sent unto Rahab, saying, Bring forth the men that are come to thee, that are entered into thy house; for they are come to search out all the land. |
 2:3
And the kingº
of Jerichoº
sentºº
untoº
Rahab,º
saying,ºº
Bring forthºº
the menºº
that are comeºº
toº
thee, whichº
are enteredºº
into thine house:º
forº
they be comeºº
to search outººº
allº
the country.º |
 2:4
And the woman took the two men, and hid them; and she said, Yea, the men came unto me, but I knew not whence they were: |
 2:4
And the womanº
tookººº
the twoº
men,ºº
and hidºº
them, and saidºº
thus,º
There cameºº
menºº
untoº
me, but I wistºº
notº
whenceºº
theyº
[were]: |
 2:5
and it came to pass about the time of the shutting of the gate, when it was dark, that the men went out; whither the men went I know not: pursue after them quickly; for ye will overtake them. |
 2:5
And it came to passº
[about the time] of shuttingºº
of the gate,º
when it was dark,º
that the menºº
went out:ºº
whitherº
the menºº
wentºº
I wotºº
not:º
pursueºº
afterº
them quickly;º
forº
ye shall overtakeºº
them. |
 2:6
But she had brought them up to the roof, and hid them with the stalks of flax, which she had laid in order upon the roof. |
 2:6
But sheº
had brought them upºº
to the roofº
of the house, and hidºº
them with the stalksº
of flax,º
which she had laid in orderºº
uponº
the roof.º |
 2:7
And the men pursued after them the way to the Jordan unto the fords: and as soon as they that pursued after them were gone out, they shut the gate. |
 2:7
And the menºº
pursuedºº
afterº
them the wayº
to Jordanº
untoº
the fords:º
and as soon asºº
they which pursuedºº
afterº
them were gone out,ºº
they shutºº
the gate.º |
 2:8 ¶
And before they were laid down, she came up unto them upon the roof; |
 2:8 ¶
And beforeº
theyº
were laid down,ºº
sheº
came upºº
untoº
them uponº
the roof;º |
 2:9
and she said unto the men, I know that Jehovah hath given you the land, and that the fear of you is fallen upon us, and that all the inhabitants of the land melt away before you. |
 2:9
And she saidºº
untoº
the men,ºº
I knowºº
thatº
the LORDº
hath givenºº
youº
the land,º
and thatº
your terrorº
is fallenºº
uponº
us, and thatº
allº
the inhabitantsºº
of the landº
faintºº
becauseº
ofºº
you. |
 2:10
For we have heard how Jehovah dried up the water of the Red Sea before you, when ye came out of Egypt; and what ye did unto the two kings of the Amorites, that were beyond the Jordan, unto Sihon and to Og, whom ye utterly destroyed. |
 2:10
Forº
we have heardººº
howº
the LORDº
dried upººº
the waterº
of the Redº
seaº
forºº
you,º
when ye came outºº
of Egypt;ºº
and whatº
ye didºº
unto the twoº
kingsº
of the Amorites,º
thatº
[were] on the other sideº
Jordan,º
Sihonº
and Og,º
whomº
ye utterly destroyed.ººº |
 2:11
And as soon as we had heard it, our hearts did melt, neither did there remain any more spirit in any man, because of you: for Jehovah your God, he is God in heaven above, and on earth beneath. |
 2:11
And as soon as we had heardºº
[these things], our heartsº
did melt,ºº
neitherº
did there remainºº
any moreº
courageº
in any man,º
becauseº
ofºº
you: forº
the LORDº
your God,º
heº
[is] Godº
in heavenº
above,ºº
and inº
earthº
beneath.ºº |
 2:12
Now therefore, I pray you, swear unto me by Jehovah, since I have dealt kindly with you, that ye also will deal kindly with my father's house, and give me a true token; |
 2:12
Nowº
therefore, I prayº
you, swearºº
unto me by the LORD,º
sinceº
I have shewedºº
you kindness,ººº
that yeº
will alsoº
shewºº
kindnessº
untoº
my father'sº
house,º
and giveºº
me a trueº
token:º |
 2:13
and that ye will save alive my father, and my mother, and my brethren, and my sisters, and all that they have, and will deliver our lives from death. |
 2:13
And [that] ye will save aliveººº
my father,º
and my mother,º
and my brethren,º
and my sisters,º
and allº
thatº
they have, and deliverººº
our livesº
from death.ºº |
 2:14
And the men said unto her, Our life for yours, if ye utter not this our business; and it shall be, when Jehovah giveth us the land, that we will deal kindly and truly with thee. |
 2:14
And the menºº
answeredºº
her, Our lifeº
forº
yours,ºº
ifº
ye utterºº
notºº
thisº
our business.º
And it shall be,º
when the LORDº
hath givenºº
usº
the land,º
that we will dealºº
kindlyº
and trulyº
withº
thee. |
 2:15
Then she let them down by a cord through the window: for her house was upon the side of the wall, and she dwelt upon the wall. |
 2:15
Then she let them downºº
by a cordº
throughº
the window:º
forº
her houseº
[was] upon the townºº
wall,ºº
and sheº
dweltºº
upon the wall.º |
 2:16
And she said unto them, Get you to the mountain, lest the pursuers light upon you; and hide yourselves there three days, until the pursuers be returned: and afterward may ye go your way. |
 2:16
And she saidºº
unto them, Getººº
you to the mountain,º
lestº
the pursuersºº
meetºº
you; and hideºº
yourselvesº
thereº
threeº
days,º
untilº
the pursuersºº
be returned:ºº
and afterwardº
may ye goººº
your way.º |
 2:17
And the men said unto her, We will be guiltless of this thine oath which thou hast made us to swear. |
 2:17
And the menºº
saidºº
untoº
her, Weº
[will be] blamelessº
of this thine oathººº
whichº
thou hast made us swear.ºº |
 2:18
Behold, when we come into the land, thou shalt bind this line of scarlet thread in the window which thou didst let us down by: and thou shalt gather unto thee into the house thy father, and thy mother, and thy brethren, and all thy father's household. |
 2:18
Behold,º
[when] weº
comeºº
into the land,º
thou shalt bindººº
thisº
lineº
of scarletº
threadº
in the windowº
whichº
thou didst let us downº
by:ºº
and thou shalt bringºº
thy father,º
and thy mother,º
and thy brethren,º
and allº
thy father'sº
household,º
homeº
untoº
thee. |
 2:19
And it shall be, that whosoever shall go out of the doors of thy house into the street, his blood shall be upon his head, and we shall be guiltless: and whosoever shall be with thee in the house, his blood shall be on our head, if any hand be upon him. |
 2:19
And it shall be,º
[that] whosoeverºº
shall go outºº
of the doorsºº
of thy houseº
into the street,º
his bloodº
[shall be] upon his head,º
and weº
[will be] guiltless:º
and whosoeverºº
shall beº
withº
thee in the house,º
his bloodº
[shall be] on our head,º
ifº
[any] handº
beº
upon him. |
 2:20
But if thou utter this our business, then we shall be guiltless of thine oath which thou hast made us to swear. |
 2:20
And ifº
thou utterººº
thisº
our business,º
then we will beº
quitº
of thine oathºº
whichº
thou hast made us to swear.ºº |
 2:21
And she said, According unto your words, so be it. And she sent them away, and they departed: and she bound the scarlet line in the window. |
 2:21
And she said,ºº
According unto your words,º
soº
[be] it.º
And she sent them away,ºº
and they departed:ººº
and she boundººº
the scarletº
lineº
in the window.º |
 2:22
And they went, and came unto the mountain, and abode there three days, until the pursuers were returned: and the pursuers sought them throughout all the way, but found them not. |
 2:22
And they went,ººº
and cameºº
unto the mountain,º
and abodeºº
thereº
threeº
days,º
untilº
the pursuersºº
were returned:ºº
and the pursuersºº
soughtºº
[them] throughout allº
the way,º
but foundºº
[them] not.º |
 2:23 ¶
Then the two men returned, and descended from the mountain, and passed over, and came to Joshua the son of Nun; and they told him all that had befallen them. |
 2:23 ¶
So the twoº
menºº
returned,ºº
and descendedºº
from the mountain,ºº
and passed over,ºº
and cameºº
toº
Joshuaº
the sonº
of Nun,º
and toldºº
himº
allº
[things] that befellºº
them: |
 2:24
And they said unto Joshua, Truly Jehovah hath delivered into our hands all the land; and moreover all the inhabitants of the land do melt away before us. |
 2:24
And they saidºº
untoº
Joshua,º
Trulyº
the LORDº
hath deliveredºº
into our handsºº
allº
the land;º
for evenº
allº
the inhabitantsºº
of the countryº
do faintºº
becauseº
ofºº
us. |
