 21:1 ¶ And it came to pass after these things, that Naboth the Jezreelite had a vineyard, which was in Jezreel, hard by the palace of Ahab king of Samaria.

 21:1 ¶ And it came to passº afterº theseº things,º [that] Nabothº the Jezreeliteº hadº a vineyard,º whichº [was] in Jezreel,º hardº byº the palaceº of Ahabº kingº of Samaria.º

 21:2 And Ahab spake unto Naboth, saying, Give me thy vineyard, that I may have it for a garden of herbs, because it is near unto my house; and I will give thee for it a better vineyard than it: or, if it seem good to thee, I will give thee the worth of it in money.

 21:2 And Ahabº spakeºº untoº Naboth,º saying,ºº Giveºº meº thy vineyard,º that I may haveº it for a gardenº of herbs,º becauseº itº [is] nearº untoºº my house:º and I will giveºº thee forº it a betterº vineyardº thanº it; [or], ifº it seem goodº to thee,ºº I will giveºº thee the worthº of itº in money.º

 21:3 And Naboth said to Ahab, Jehovah forbid it me, that I should give the inheritance of my fathers unto thee.

 21:3 And Nabothº saidºº toº Ahab,º The LORDºº forbidº it me, that I should giveºººº the inheritanceº of my fathersº unto thee.

 21:4 And Ahab came into his house heavy and displeased because of the word which Naboth the Jezreelite had spoken to him; for he had said, I will not give thee the inheritance of my fathers. And he laid him down upon his bed, and turned away his face, and would eat no bread.

 21:4 And Ahabº cameºº intoº his houseº heavyº and displeasedº becauseº of the wordº whichº Nabothº the Jezreeliteº had spokenºº toº him: for he had said,ºº I will notº giveºº theeº the inheritanceº of my fathers.º And he laid him downºº uponº his bed,º and turned awayººº his face,º and would eatºº noº bread.º

 21:5 ¶ But Jezebel his wife came to him, and said unto him, Why is thy spirit so sad, that thou eatest no bread?

 21:5 ¶ But Jezebelº his wifeº cameºº toº him, and saidºº untoº him, Whyºº is thy spiritº so sad,º that thou eatestºº noº bread?º

 21:6 And he said unto her, Because I spake unto Naboth the Jezreelite, and said unto him, Give me thy vineyard for money; or else, if it please thee, I will give thee [another] vineyard for it: and he answered, I will not give thee my vineyard.

 21:6 And he saidºº untoº her, Becauseº I spakeºº untoº Nabothº the Jezreelite,º and saidºº unto him, Giveºº meº thy vineyardº for money;º orº else, ifº it pleaseºº thee,º I will giveºº thee [another] vineyardº forº it: and he answered,ºº I will notº giveºº theeº my vineyard.º

 21:7 And Jezebel his wife said unto him, Dost thou now govern the kingdom of Israel? arise, and eat bread, and let thy heart be merry: I will give thee the vineyard of Naboth the Jezreelite.

 21:7 And Jezebelº his wifeº saidºº untoº him, Dost thouº nowº governººº the kingdomº of Israel?º arise,ºº [and] eatºº bread,º and let thine heartº be merry:ºº Iº will giveºº theeº the vineyardº of Nabothº the Jezreelite.º

 21:8 So she wrote letters in Ahab's name, and sealed them with his seal, and sent the letters unto the elders and to the nobles that were in his city, [and] that dwelt with Naboth.

 21:8 So she wroteºº lettersº in Ahab'sº name,º and sealedºº [them] with his seal,º and sentºº the lettersº untoº the eldersº and toº the noblesº thatº [were] in his city,º dwellingºº withº Naboth.º

 21:9 And she wrote in the letters, saying, Proclaim a fast, and set Naboth on high among the people:

 21:9 And she wroteºº in the letters,º saying,ºº Proclaimºº a fast,º and setººº Nabothº on highº among the people:º

 21:10 and set two men, base fellows, before him, and let them bear witness against him, saying, Thou didst curse God and the king. And then carry him out, and stone him to death.

 21:10 And setºº twoº men,ºº sonsº of Belial,º beforeº him, to bear witnessºº againstº him, saying,ºº Thou didst blasphemeºº Godº and the king.º And [then] carry him out,ºº and stoneºº him, that he may die.ºº

 21:11 And the men of his city, even the elders and the nobles who dwelt in his city, did as Jezebel had sent unto them, according as it was written in the letters which she had sent unto them.

 21:11 And the menºº of his city,º [even] the eldersº and the noblesº whoº were the inhabitantsºº in his city,º didºº asº Jezebelº had sentºº untoº them, [and] asº it [was] writtenºº in the lettersº whichº she had sentºº untoº them.

 21:12 They proclaimed a fast, and set Naboth on high among the people.

 21:13 And the two men, the base fellows, came in and sat before him: and the base fellows bare witness against him, even against Naboth, in the presence of the people, saying, Naboth did curse God and the king. Then they carried him forth out of the city, and stoned him to death with stones.

 21:13 And there cameºº inº twoº men,ºº childrenº of Belial,º and satºº beforeº him: and the menºº of Belialº witnessedºº againstº him, [even] againstº Naboth,º in the presenceº of the people,º saying,ºº Nabothº did blasphemeºº Godº and the king.º Then they carried him forthºº outº ofºº the city,º and stonedºº him with stones,º that he died.ºº

 21:14 Then they sent to Jezebel, saying, Naboth is stoned, and is dead.

 21:14 Then they sentºº toº Jezebel,º saying,ºº Nabothº is stoned,ºº and is dead.ºº

 21:15 ¶ And it came to pass, when Jezebel heard that Naboth was stoned, and was dead, that Jezebel said to Ahab, Arise, take possession of the vineyard of Naboth the Jezreelite, which he refused to give thee for money; for Naboth is not alive, but dead.

 21:15 ¶ And it came to pass,º when Jezebelº heardºº thatº Nabothº was stoned,ºº and was dead,ºº that Jezebelº saidºº toº Ahab,º Arise,ºº take possessionºº ofº the vineyardº of Nabothº the Jezreelite,º whichº he refusedºº to giveºº thee for money:º forº Nabothº is notº alive,º butº dead.ºº

 21:16 And it came to pass, when Ahab heard that Naboth was dead, that Ahab rose up to go down to the vineyard of Naboth the Jezreelite, to take possession of it.

 21:16 And it came to pass,º when Ahabº heardºº thatº Nabothº was dead,ºº that Ahabº rose upºº to go downºº toº the vineyardº of Nabothº the Jezreelite,º to take possessionºº of it.

 21:17 ¶ And the word of Jehovah came to Elijah the Tishbite, saying,

 21:17 ¶ And the wordº of the LORDº cameº toº Elijahº the Tishbite,º saying,ºº

 21:18 Arise, go down to meet Ahab king of Israel, who dwelleth in Samaria: behold, he is in the vineyard of Naboth, whither he is gone down to take possession of it.

 21:18 Arise,ºº go downºº to meetººº Ahabº kingº of Israel,º whichº [is] in Samaria:º behold,º [he is] in the vineyardº of Naboth,º whitherºº he is gone downºº to possessºº it.

 21:19 And thou shalt speak unto him, saying, Thus saith Jehovah, Hast thou killed and also taken possession? And thou shalt speak unto him, saying, Thus saith Jehovah, In the place where dogs licked the blood of Naboth shall dogs lick thy blood, even thine.

 21:19 And thou shalt speakºº untoº him, saying,ºº Thusº saithºº the LORD,º Hast thou killed,ºº and alsoº taken possession?ºº And thou shalt speakºº untoº him, saying,ºº Thusº saithºº the LORD,º In the placeº whereº dogsº lickedººº the bloodº of Nabothº shall dogsº lickººº thy blood,º evenº thine.º

 21:20 And Ahab said to Elijah, Hast thou found me, O mine enemy? And he answered, I have found thee, because thou hast sold thyself to do that which is evil in the sight of Jehovah.

 21:20 And Ahabº saidºº toº Elijah,º Hast thou foundºº me, O mine enemy?ºº And he answered,ºº I have foundºº [thee]: becauseº thou hast soldºº thyself to workºº evilº in the sightº of the LORD.º

 21:21 Behold, I will bring evil upon thee, and will utterly sweep thee away and will cut off from Ahab every man-child, and him that is shut up and him that is left at large in Israel:

 21:21 Behold,º I will bringºº evilº uponº thee, and will take awayºº thy posterity,º and will cut offºº from Ahabº him that pissethºº against the wall,º and him that is shut upºº and leftºº in Israel,º

 21:22 and I will make thy house like the house of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, and like the house of Baasha the son of Ahijah for the provocation wherewith thou hast provoked me to anger, and hast made Israel to sin.

 21:22 And will makeººº thine houseº like the houseº of Jeroboamº the sonº of Nebat,º and like the houseº of Baashaº the sonº of Ahijah,º forº the provocationº wherewithº thou hast provoked [me] to anger,ºº and made Israelº to sin.ºººº

 21:23 And of Jezebel also spake Jehovah, saying, The dogs shall eat Jezebel by the rampart of Jezreel.

 21:23 And of Jezebelº alsoº spakeºº the LORD,º saying,ºº The dogsº shall eatººº Jezebelº by the wallº of Jezreel.º

 21:24 Him that dieth of Ahab in the city the dogs shall eat; and him that dieth in the field shall the birds of the heavens eat.

 21:24 Him that diethºº of Ahabº in the cityº the dogsº shall eat;ºº and him that diethºº in the fieldº shall the fowlsº of the airº eat.ºº

 21:25 ¶ (But there was none like unto Ahab, who did sell himself to do that which was evil in the sight of Jehovah, whom Jezebel his wife stirred up.

 21:25 ¶ Butº there wasº noneº like unto Ahab,º whichº did sellºº himselfº to workºº wickednessº in the sightº of the LORD,º whomºº Jezebelº his wifeº stirred up.ºº

 21:26 And he did very abominably in following idols, according to all that the Amorites did, whom Jehovah cast out before the children of Israel.)

 21:26 And he did veryº abominablyºº in followingºººº idols,º according to allº [things] asº didºº the Amorites,º whomº the LORDº cast outºº beforeºº the childrenº of Israel.º

 21:27 And it came to pass, when Ahab heard those words, that he rent his clothes, and put sackcloth upon his flesh, and fasted, and lay in sackcloth, and went softly.

 21:27 And it came to pass,º when Ahabº heardººº thoseº words,º that he rentºº his clothes,º and putºº sackclothº uponº his flesh,º and fasted,ºº and layºº in sackcloth,º and wentºº softly.º

 21:28 And the word of Jehovah came to Elijah the Tishbite, saying,

 21:28 And the wordº of the LORDº cameº toº Elijahº the Tishbite,º saying,ºº

 21:29 Seest thou how Ahab humbleth himself before me? because he humbleth himself before me, I will not bring the evil in his days; but in his son's days will I bring the evil upon his house.

 21:29 Seestºº thou howº Ahabº humblethºº himselfº beforeºº me? becauseºº he humblethºº himselfº beforeºº me, I will notº bringºº the evilº in his days:º [but] in his son'sº daysº will I bringºº the evilº uponº his house.º
