Is the law then against the promises of God? God forbid: for if there had been a law given which could make alive, verily righteousness would have been of the law.

[Is] the¹ lawª thenª againstª the¹ promisesª of God?ª God forbid:ªª° forª ifª there had been²° a lawª givenª° which² couldª° have given life,ª° verilyª¹ righteousnessª should² have beenª° byª the law.ª

Is the¹ Laweª thenª againstª the¹ promisesª of God?ª God forbid:ªª° forª ifª there had beene²° a Laweª giuenª° which² couldª° haue giuen life,ª° verilyª¹ righteousnesseª should² haue beneª° byª the Law.ª

Is the law therefore against the promise of Aloha? Impossible: for if a law had been given which could make [guilty man] to live, certainly righteousness would have been by the law.

Is the law then opposed to the promise of God? Far be it. For if a law had been given, which could make alive, certainly, righteousness would have been by the law.

ὁ οὖν νόμος κατὰ τῶν ἐπαγγελιῶν [τοῦ θεοῦ]; μὴ γένοιτο: εἰ γὰρ ἐδόθη νόμος ὁ δυνάμενος ζωοποιῆσαι, ὄντως ἐν νόμῳ ἂν ἦν ἡ δικαιοσύνη.
