And they were not able to take hold of the saying before the people: and they marvelled at his answer, and held their peace.

And they could not take hold of his words before the people; and they wondered at his answer, and were silent.

And they could not catch from him a word [of accusation] before the people: and they were surprised at his answers, and were silent.

καὶ οὐκ ἴσχυσαν ἐπιλαβέσθαι τοῦ ῥήματος ἐναντίον τοῦ λαοῦ, καὶ θαυμάσαντες ἐπὶ τῇ ἀποκρίσει αὐτοῦ ἐσίγησαν.

And not they-force-held to-have-had-taken-upon of-the-one of-an-uttering-to to-ever-a-oned-in of-the-one of-a-people, and having-marvelled-to upon unto-the-one unto-a-separating-off of-it they-silenced-unto.
