And it shall be, when their fathers or their brethren come to complain unto us, that we will say unto them, Grant them graciously unto us, because we took not for each man [of them] his wife in battle, neither did ye give them unto them, else would ye now be guilty.

And it shall be,¹ when¹ their fathersª or¹ their brethrenª comeª° unto¹ us to complain,ª° that we will sayª° unto¹ them, Be favourableª° unto them for our sakes: because¹ we reservedª° not¹ to each manª his wifeª in the war:ª for¹ ye¹ did not¹ giveª° unto them at this time,ª [that] ye should be guilty.ª°
