Zephaniah 1

God's severe judgment against Judah for divers sins.

 1:1 The word 1697 of the LORD 3068 which 834 came 1961 to Zephaniah 6846 son 1121 of Cushi 3570, son 1121 of Gedaliah 1436a, son 1121 of Amariah 568, son 1121 of Hezekiah 2396, in the days 3117 of Josiah 2977 son 1121 of Amon 526, king 4428 of Judah 3063:

 1:2 ¶ “I will completely 5486 remove 5486 all 3605 [things] From the face 6440 of the earth 127,” declares 5002 the LORD 3068.

 1:3 “I will remove 5486 man 120 and beast 929; I will remove 5486 the birds 5775 of the sky 8064 And the fish 1709 of the sea 3220, And the ruins 4384 along 854 with the wicked 7563; And I will cut 3772 off 3772 man 120 from the face 6440 of the earth 127,” declares 5002 the LORD 3068.

 1:4 “So I will stretch 5186 out My hand 3027 against 5921 Judah 3063 And against 5921 all 3605 the inhabitants 3427 of Jerusalem 3389. And I will cut 3772 off 3772 the remnant 7605 of Baal 1168a from this 2088 place 4725, [And] the names 8034 of the idolatrous 3649 priests 3649 along 5973 with the priests 3548.

 1:5 “And those who bow 7812 down 7812 on the housetops 1406 to the host 6635 of heaven 8064, And those who bow 7812 down 7812 [and] swear 7650 to the LORD 3068 and [yet] swear 7650 by Milcom 4445b,

 1:6 And those who have turned 5472 back 5472 from following 310 the LORD 3068, And those who 834 have not sought 1245 the LORD 3068 or inquired 1875 of Him.”

 1:7 ¶ Be silent 2013 before 4480 6440 the Lord 136 GOD 3068! For the day 3117 of the LORD 3068 is near 7138, For the LORD 3068 has prepared 3559 a sacrifice 2077, He has consecrated 6942 His guests 7121.

 1:8 “Then it will come 1961 about on the day 3117 of the LORD’S 3068 sacrifice 2077 That I will punish 6485 the princes 8269, the king’s 4428 sons 1121 And all 3605 who clothe 3847 themselves with foreign 5237 garments 4403.

 1:9 “And I will punish 6485 on that day 3117 all 3605 who leap 1801 on the [temple] threshold 4670, Who fill 4390 the house 1004 of their lord 113 with violence 2555 and deceit 4820.

 1:10 “On that day 3117,” declares 5002 the LORD 3068, “There will be the sound 6963 of a cry 6818 from the Fish 1709 Gate 8179, A wail 3215 from the Second 4932 Quarter, And a loud 1419 crash 7667 from the hills 1389.

 1:11 “Wail 3213, O inhabitants 3427 of the Mortar 4389, For all 3605 the people 5971a of Canaan 3667a will be silenced 1820; All 3605 who weigh 5187 out silver 3701 will be cut 3772 off 3772.

 1:12 “It will come 1961 about at that time 6256 That I will search 2664 Jerusalem 3389 with lamps 5216, And I will punish 6485 the men 376 Who are stagnant 7087a in spirit 8105, Who say 559 in their hearts 3824, ‘The LORD 3068 will not do 3190 good 3190 or evil 7489a!’

 1:13 “Moreover, their wealth 2428 will become 1961 plunder 4933 And their houses 1004 desolate 8077; Yes, they will build 1129 houses 1004 but not inhabit 3427 [them], And plant 5193 vineyards 3754 but not drink 8354 their wine 3196.”

 1:14 ¶ Near 7138 is the great 1419 day 3117 of the LORD 3068, Near 7138 and coming 4118a very 3966 quickly 4118a; Listen 6963, the day 3117 of the LORD 3068! In it the warrior 1368 cries 6873 out bitterly 4751.

 1:15 A day 3117 of wrath 5678 is that day 3117, A day 3117 of trouble 6869a and distress 4691, A day 3117 of destruction 7724b and desolation 4875, A day 3117 of darkness 2822 and gloom 653, A day 3117 of clouds 6051 and thick 6205 darkness 6205,

 1:17 I will bring 6887a distress 6887a on men 120 So that they will walk 1980 like the blind 5787, Because 3588 they have sinned 2398 against the LORD 3068; And their blood 1818 will be poured 8210 out like dust 6083 And their flesh 3894 like dung 1557.

 1:18 Neither 1571 3808 their silver 3701 nor 1571 their gold 2091 Will be able 3201 to deliver 5337 them On the day 3117 of the LORD’S 3068 wrath 5678; And all 3605 the earth 776 will be devoured 398 In the fire 784 of His jealousy 7068, For He will make 6213a a complete 3617 end 3617, Indeed 389 a terrifying 926 one, Of all 3605 the inhabitants 3427 of the earth 776.
