Lamentations 3

1 The faithful bewail their calamities. 22 By the mercies of God they nourish their hope. 37 They acknowledge God's justice. 55 They pray for deliverance, 64 and vengeance on their enemies.

 3:1 I am the man 1397 who has seen 7200 affliction 6040a Because of the rod 7626 of His wrath 5678.

 3:2 He has driven 5090a me and made me walk 1980 In darkness 2822 and not in light 216.

 3:3 Surely 389 against me He has turned 2015 His hand 3027 Repeatedly 7725 all 3605 the day 3117.

 3:4 He has caused my flesh 1320 and my skin 5785 to waste 1086 away 1086, He has broken 7665 my bones 6106.

 3:5 He has besieged 1129 5921 and encompassed 5362b me with bitterness 7219 and hardship 8513.

 3:6 In dark 4285 places 4285 He has made me dwell 3427, Like those who have long 5769 been dead 4191.

 3:7 He has walled 1443 me in so that I cannot 3808 go 3318 out; He has made 3513 my chain 5178 heavy 3513.

 3:8 Even 1571 when 3588 I cry 2199 out and call 7768 for help 7768, He shuts 8365a out my prayer 8605.

 3:9 He has blocked 1443 my ways 1870 with hewn 1496 stone 1496; He has made 5753a my paths 5410b crooked 5753a.

 3:10 He is to me like a bear 1677 lying 693 in wait 693, [Like] a lion 743b in secret 4565 places 4565.

 3:11 He has turned 5493 aside 5493 my ways 1870 and torn 6582 me to pieces 6582; He has made 8074 me desolate 8074.

 3:12 He bent 1869 His bow 7198 And set 5324 me as a target 4307 for the arrow 2671.

 3:13 He made the arrows 1121 of His quiver 827 To enter 935 into my inward 3629 parts 3629.

 3:14 I have become 1961 a laughingstock 7814 to all 3605 my people 5971a, Their [mocking] song 5058 all 3605 the day 3117.

 3:15 He has filled 7646 me with bitterness 4844, He has made 7301 me drunk 7301 with wormwood 3939.

 3:16 He has broken 1638 my teeth 8127 with gravel 2687; He has made me cower 3728 in the dust 665.

 3:17 My soul 5315 has been 2186a rejected 2186a from peace 7965; I have forgotten 5382 happiness 2899b.

 3:18 So I say 559, “My strength 5331 has perished 6, And [so has] my hope 8431 from the LORD 3068.”

 3:19 ¶ Remember 2142 my affliction 6040a and my wandering 4788, the wormwood 3939 and bitterness 7219.

 3:20 Surely 2142 my soul 5315 remembers 2142 And is bowed 7743 down 7743 within 5921 me.

 3:21 This 384 I recall 7725 to my mind 3820, Therefore 5921 3651 I have 3176 hope 3176.

 3:22 The LORD’S 3068 lovingkindnesses 2617a indeed 3588 never 3808 cease 8552, For His compassions 7356 never 3808 fail 3615.

 3:23 [They] are new 2319 every morning 1242; Great 7227a is Your faithfulness 530.

 3:24 “The LORD 3068 is my portion 2506,” says 559 my soul 5315, “Therefore 5921 3651 I have 3176 hope 3176 in Him.”

 3:25 The LORD 3068 is good 2896a to those who wait 6960a for Him, To the person 5315 who seeks 1875 Him.

 3:26 [It is] good 2896a that he waits 3175 silently 1748 For the salvation 8668 of the LORD 3068.

 3:27 [It is] good 2896a for a man 1397 that he should bear 5375 The yoke 5923 in his youth 5271.

 3:28 Let him sit 3427 alone 910 and be silent 1826a Since 3588 He has laid 5190 [it] on him.

 3:29 Let him put 5414 his mouth 6310 in the dust 6083, Perhaps 194 there 3426 is hope 8615b.

 3:30 Let him give 5414 his cheek 3895 to the smiter 5221, Let him be filled 7646 with reproach 2781.

 3:31 For the Lord 136 will not reject 2186a forever 5769,

 3:32 For if 518 He causes 3013 grief 3013, Then He will have 7355 compassion 7355 According to His abundant 7230 lovingkindness 2617a.

 3:33 For He does not afflict 6031a willingly 4480 3820 Or grieve 3013 the sons 1121 of men 376.

 3:34 To crush 1792 under 8478 His feet 7272 All 3605 the prisoners 615 of the land 776,

 3:35 To deprive 5186 a man 1397 of justice 4941 In the presence 6440 of the Most 5945b High 5945b,

 3:36 To defraud 5791 a man 120 in his lawsuit 7379— Of these things the Lord 136 does not approve 7200.

 3:37 Who 4310 is there 2088 who speaks 559 and it comes 1961 to pass 1961, Unless 3808 the Lord 136 has commanded 6680 [it]?

 3:38 [Is it] not from the mouth 6310 of the Most 5945b High 5945b That both good 2896a and ill 7463a go 3318 forth 3318?

 3:39 ¶ Why 4100 should [any] living 2416a mortal 120, or [any] man 1397, Offer 596 complaint 596 in view 5921 of his sins 2399?

 3:40 Let us examine 2664 and probe 2713 our ways 1870, And let us return 7725 to the LORD 3068.

 3:41 We lift 5375 up our heart 3824 and hands 3709 Toward 413 God 410 in heaven 8064;

 3:42 We have transgressed 6586 and rebelled 4784, You have not pardoned 5545.

 3:43 You have covered 5526a [Yourself] with anger 639 And pursued 7291 us; You have slain 2026 [and] have not spared 2550.

 3:44 You have covered 5526a Yourself with a cloud 6051 So 4480 that no 4480 prayer 8605 can pass 5674a through 5674a.

 3:45 [You have made 7760 us mere] offscouring 5501a and refuse 3973 In the midst 7130 of the peoples 5971a.

 3:46 All 3605 our enemies 340 have opened 6475 their mouths 6310 against 5921 us.

 3:47 Panic 6343 and pitfall 6354 have befallen 1961 us, Devastation 7612 and destruction 7667;

 3:48 My eyes 5869 run 3381 down 3381 with streams 6388 of water 4325 Because 5921 of the destruction 7667 of the daughter 1323 of my people 5971a.

 3:49 My eyes 5869 pour 5064 down 5064 unceasingly 3808 1820, Without 369 stopping 2014,

 3:50 Until 5704 the LORD 3068 looks 8259 down 8259 And sees 7200 from heaven 8064.

 3:51 My eyes 5869 bring 5953a pain 5953a to my soul 5315 Because 4480 of all 3605 the daughters 1323 of my city 5892b.

 3:52 My enemies 340 without 2600 cause 2600 Hunted 6679 me down 6679 like a bird 6833;

 3:53 They have silenced 6789 me in the pit 953a And have placed 3034 a stone 68 on me.

 3:54 Waters 4325 flowed 6687 over 5921 my head 7218; I said 559, “I am cut 1504 off 1504!”

 3:55 I called 7121 on Your name 8034, O LORD 3068, Out of the lowest 8482 pit 953a.

 3:56 You have heard 8085 my voice 6963, “Do not hide 5956 Your ear 241 from my [prayer for] relief 7309, From my cry 7775 for help 7775.”

 3:57 You drew 7126 near 7126 when 3117 I called 7121 on You; You said 559, “Do not fear 3372a!”

 3:58 O Lord 136, You have pleaded 7378 my soul’s 5315 cause 7379; You have redeemed 1350 my life 2425b.

 3:59 O LORD 3068, You have seen 7200 my oppression 5792; Judge 8199 my case 4941.

 3:60 You have seen 7200 all 3605 their vengeance 5360, All 3605 their schemes 4284 against me.

 3:61 You have heard 8085 their reproach 2781, O LORD 3068, All 3605 their schemes 4284 against 5921 me.

 3:62 The lips 8193 of my assailants 6965 and their whispering 1902 [Are] against 5921 me all 3605 day 3117 long.

 3:63 Look 5027 on their sitting 3427 and their rising 7012; I am their mocking 4485 song 4485.

 3:64 You will recompense 7725 1576 them, O LORD 3068, According to the work 4639 of their hands 3027.

 3:65 You will give 5414 them hardness 4044 of heart 3820, Your curse 8381 will be on them.

 3:66 You will pursue 7291 them in anger 639 and destroy 8045 them From under 8478 the heavens 8064 of the LORD 3068!
