Jonah 4

1 Jonah, repining at God's mercy, 4 is reproved by the type of a gourd.

 4:1 But it greatly 1419 displeased 7489a Jonah 3124 and he became 2734 angry 2734.

 4:2 He prayed 6419 to the LORD 3068 and said 559, “Please 577 LORD 3068, was not this 2088 what 1697 I said 1696 while 5704 I was still 5704 in my [own] country 127? Therefore 5921 3651 in order to forestall 6923 this I fled 1272 to Tarshish 8659, for I knew 3045 that You are a gracious 2587 and compassionate 7349 God 410, slow 750 to anger 639 and abundant 7227a in lovingkindness 2617a, and one who relents 5162 concerning 5921 calamity 7463a.

 4:3 “Therefore now 6258, O LORD 3068, please 4994 take 3947 my life 5315 from me, for death 4194 is better 2896a to me than 4480 life 2425b.”

 4:4 The LORD 3068 said 559, “Do you have good 3190 reason 3190 to be angry 2734?”

 4:5 ¶ Then Jonah 3124 went 3318 out from the city 5892b and sat 3427 east 6924a of it. There 8033 he made 6213a a shelter 5521 for himself and sat 3427 under 8478 it in the shade 6738 until 5704 834 he could see 7200 what 4100 would happen 1961 in the city 5892b.

 4:6 So the LORD 3068 God 430 appointed 4487 a plant 7021 and it grew 5927 up over 4480 5921 Jonah 3124 to be a shade 6738 over 5921 his head 7218 to deliver 5337 him from his discomfort 7463a. And Jonah 3124 was extremely 8057 1419 happy 8055 about 5921 the plant 7021.

 4:7 But God 430 appointed 4487 a worm 8439b when dawn 7837 came 5927 the next 4283 day 4283 and it attacked 5221 the plant 7021 and it withered 3001.

 4:8 When the sun 8121 came 2224 up God 430 appointed 4487 a scorching 2759 east 6921 wind 7307, and the sun 8121 beat 5221 down 5221 on Jonah’s 3124 head 7218 so that he became 5968 faint 5968 and begged 7592 with [all] his soul 5315 to die 4191, saying 559, “Death 4194 is better 2896a to me than 4480 life 2425b.”

 4:9 ¶ Then God 430 said 559 to Jonah 3124, “Do you have good 3190 reason 3190 to be angry 2734 about 5921 the plant 7021?” And he said 559, “I have good 3190 reason 3190 to be angry 2734, even to death 4194.”

 4:10 Then the LORD 3068 said 559, “You had 2347 compassion 2347 on the plant 7021 for which 834 you did not work 5998 and [which] you did not cause to grow 1431, which 7945 came 1961 up overnight 1121 3915 and perished 6 overnight 1121 3915.

 4:11 “Should I not have 2347 compassion 2347 on Nineveh 5210, the great 1419 city 5892b in which 834 there 3426 are more 7235a than 4480 120,000 8147 6240 7239 persons 120 who 834 do not know 3045 [the difference] between 996 their right 3225 and left 8040 hand 8040, as well as many 7227a animals 929?”
