2 Timothy 2

1 He is exhorted again to constancy and perseverance, and to do the duty of a faithful servant of the Lord in dividing the Word aright, and staying profane and vain babblings. 17 Of Hymeneus and Philetus. 19 The foundation of the Lord is sure. 22 He is taught whereof to beware, and what to follow after, and in what sort the servant of the Lord ought to behave himself.

 2:1 You therefore 3767, my son 5043, be strong 1743 in the grace 5485 that is in Christ 5547 Jesus 2424.

 2:2 The things which 3739 you have heard 191 from me in the presence 1223 of many 4183 witnesses 3144, entrust 3908 these 3778 to faithful 4103 men 444 who 3748 will be able 2425 to teach 1321 others 2087 also 2532.

 2:3 Suffer 4777 hardship 4777 with [me], as a good 2570 soldier 4757 of Christ 5547 Jesus 2424.

 2:4 No 3762 soldier 4754 in active 4754 service 4754 entangles 1707 himself in the affairs 4230 of everyday 979 life 979, so 2443 that he may please 700 the one who enlisted 4758 him as a soldier 4758.

 2:5 Also 2532 if 1437 anyone 5100 competes 118 as an athlete 118, he does not win 4737 the prize 4737 unless 1437 3361 he competes 118 according to the rules 3545.

 2:6 The hard-working 2872 farmer 1092 ought 1163 to be the first 4413 to receive 3335 his share 3335 of the crops 2590.

 2:7 Consider 3539 what 3739 I say 3004, for the Lord 2962 will give 1325 you understanding 4907 in everything 3956.

 2:8 ¶ Remember 3421 Jesus 2424 Christ 5547, risen 1453 from the dead 3498, descendant 4690 of David 1160b, according 2596 to my gospel 2098,

 2:9 for which 3739 I suffer 2553 hardship 2553 even 3360 to imprisonment 1199 as a criminal 2557; but the word 3056 of God 2316 is not imprisoned 1210.

 2:10 For this 3778 reason 1223 I endure 5278 all 3956 things 3956 for the sake 1223 of those 3588 who are chosen 1588, so 2443 that they also 2532 may obtain 5177 the salvation 4991 which is in Christ 5547 Jesus 2424 [and] with [it] eternal 166 glory 1391.

 2:11 It is a trustworthy 4103 statement 3056: For if 1487 we died 4880 with Him, we will also 2532 live 4800 with Him;

 2:12 If 1487 we endure 5278, we will also 2532 reign 4821 with Him; If 1487 we deny 720 Him, He also 2548 will deny 720 us;

 2:13 If 1487 we are faithless 569, He remains 3306 faithful 4103, for He cannot 1410 3756 deny 720 Himself 1438.

 2:14 ¶ Remind 5279 [them] of these 3778 things 3778, and solemnly 1263 charge 1263 [them] in the presence 1799 of God 2316 not to wrangle 3054 about 3054 words 3054, which is useless 3762 5539 [and leads] to the ruin 2692 of the hearers 191.

 2:15 Be diligent 4704 to present 3936 yourself 4572 approved 1384 to God 2316 as a workman 2040 who does not need 422 to be ashamed 422, accurately 3718 handling 3718 the word 3056 of truth 225.

 2:16 But avoid 4026 worldly 952 [and] empty 2757 chatter 2757, for it will lead 4298 to further 4183 ungodliness 763,

 2:17 and their talk 3056 will spread 3542 like 5613 gangrene 1044. Among them are Hymenaeus 5211 and Philetus 5372,

 2:18 [men] who 3748 have gone 795 astray 795 from the truth 225 saying 3004 that the resurrection 386 has already 2235 taken 1096 place 1096, and they upset 396 the faith 4102 of some 5100.

 2:19 Nevertheless 3305, the firm 4731 foundation 2310b of God 2316 stands 2476, having 2192 this 3778 seal 4973, “The Lord 2962 knows 1097 those 3588 who are His,” and, “Everyone 3956 who names 3687 the name 3686 of the Lord 2962 is to abstain 868 from wickedness 93.”

 2:20 ¶ Now 1161 in a large 3173 house 3614 there are not only 3440 gold 5552 and silver 693 vessels 4632, but also 2532 vessels of wood 3585 and of earthenware 3749, and some 3739 to honor 5092 and some 3739 to dishonor 819.

 2:21 Therefore 3767, if 1437 anyone 5100 cleanses 1571 himself 1438 from these 3778 [things], he will be a vessel 4632 for honor 5092, sanctified 37, useful 2173 to the Master 1203, prepared 2090 for every 3956 good 18 work 2041.

 2:22 Now 1161 flee 5343 from youthful 3512 lusts 1939 and pursue 1377 righteousness 1343, faith 4102, love 26 [and] peace 1515, with those 3588 who call 1941 on the Lord 2962 from a pure 2513 heart 2588.

 2:23 But refuse 3868 foolish 3474 and ignorant 521 speculations 2214, knowing 3609a that they produce 1080 quarrels 3163.

 2:24 The Lord’s 2962 bond-servant 1401 must 1163 not be quarrelsome 3164, but be kind 2261 to all 3956, able 1317 to teach 1317, patient 420 when 420 wronged 420,

 2:25 with gentleness 4240 correcting 3811 those 3588 who are in opposition 475, if 3379 perhaps 3379 God 2316 may grant 1325 them repentance 3341 leading 1519 to the knowledge 1922 of the truth 225,

 2:26 and they may come 366 to their senses 366 [and escape] from the snare 3803 of the devil 1228, having been held 2221 captive 2221 by him to do his will 2307.
