 36:1 ¶
Elihu also proceeded, and said, |
|
 36:1 ¶
Elihuº
also proceeded,ºº
and said,ºº |
 36:2
Suffer me a little, and I will show thee; For I have yet somewhat to say on God's behalf. |
 36:2
Sufferºº
me a little,º
and I will shewºº
thee thatº
[I have] yetº
to speakº
on God'sº
behalf. |
 36:3
I will fetch my knowledge from afar, And will ascribe righteousness to my Maker. |
 36:3
I will fetchºº
my knowledgeº
from afar,ºº
and will ascribeºº
righteousnessº
to my Maker.ºº |
 36:4
For truly my words are not false: One that is perfect in knowledge is with thee. |
 36:4
Forº
trulyº
my wordsº
[shall] notº
[be] false:º
he that is perfectº
in knowledgeº
[is] withº
thee. |
 36:5
Behold, God is mighty, and despiseth not any: He is mighty in strength of understanding. |
 36:5
Behold,º
Godº
[is] mighty,º
and despisethºº
notº
[any: he is] mightyº
in strengthº
[and] wisdom.º |
 36:6
He preserveth not the life of the wicked, But giveth to the afflicted [their] right. |
 36:6
He preserveth not the lifeººº
of the wicked:º
but givethºº
rightº
to the poor.º |
 36:7
He withdraweth not his eyes from the righteous: But with kings upon the throne He setteth them for ever, and they are exalted. |
 36:7
He withdrawethºº
notº
his eyesº
from the righteous:ºº
but withº
kingsº
[are they] on the throne;º
yea, he doth establishºº
them for ever,º
and they are exalted.ºº |
 36:8
And if they be bound in fetters, And be taken in the cords of afflictions; |
 36:8
And ifº
[they be] boundºº
in fetters,º
[and] be holdenºº
in cordsº
of affliction;º |
 36:9
Then he showeth them their work, And their transgressions, that they have behaved themselves proudly. |
 36:9
Then he shewethºº
them their work,º
and their transgressionsº
thatº
they have exceeded.ºº |
 36:10
He openeth also their ear to instruction, And commandeth that they return from iniquity. |
 36:10
He openethºº
also their earº
to discipline,º
and commandethºº
thatº
they returnºº
from iniquity.ºº |
 36:11
If they hearken and serve [him], They shall spend their days in prosperity, And their years in pleasures. |
 36:11
Ifº
they obeyºº
and serveºº
[him], they shall spendºº
their daysº
in prosperity,º
and their yearsº
in pleasures.º |
 36:12
But if they hearken not, they shall perish by the sword, And they shall die without knowledge. |
 36:12
But ifº
they obeyºº
not,º
they shall perishºº
by the sword,º
and they shall dieºº
withoutº
knowledge.º |
 36:13
But they that are godless in heart lay up anger: They cry not for help when he bindeth them. |
 36:13
But the hypocritesº
in heartº
heap upºº
wrath:º
they cryºº
notº
whenº
he bindethºº
them. |
 36:14
They die in youth, And their life [perisheth] among the unclean. |
 36:14
Theyº
dieºº
in youth,º
and their lifeº
[is] among the unclean.º |
 36:15
He delivereth the afflicted by their affliction, And openeth their ear in oppression. |
 36:15
He deliverethºº
the poorº
in his affliction,º
and openethºº
their earsº
in oppression.º |
 36:16
Yea, he would have allured thee out of distress Into a broad place, where there is no straitness; And that which is set on thy table would be full of fatness. |
 36:16
Even soº
would he have removedºº
thee out of the straitººº
[into] a broad place,º
whereº
[there is] noº
straitness;º
and that which should be setº
on thy tableº
[should be] fullºº
of fatness.º |
 36:17
But thou art full of the judgment of the wicked: Judgment and justice take hold [on thee]. |
 36:17
But thou hast fulfilledºº
the judgmentº
of the wicked:º
judgmentº
and justiceº
take holdºº
[on thee]. |
 36:18
For let not wrath stir thee up against chastisements; Neither let the greatness of the ransom turn thee aside. |
 36:18
Becauseº
[there is] wrath,º
[beware] lestº
he take thee awayºº
with [his] stroke:º
then a greatºº
ransomº
cannotº
deliverºº
thee. |
 36:19
Will thy cry avail, [that thou be] not in distress, Or all the forces of [thy] strength? |
 36:19
Will he esteemºº
thy riches?º
[no], notº
gold,º
nor allº
the forcesº
of strength.º |
 36:20
Desire not the night, When peoples are cut off in their place. |
 36:20
Desireºº
notº
the night,º
when peopleº
are cut offºº
in their place.º |
 36:21
Take heed, regard not iniquity: For this hast thou chosen rather than affliction. |
 36:21
Take heed,ºº
regardºº
notººº
iniquity:º
forºº
thisº
hast thou chosenºº
rather than affliction.ºº |
 36:22
Behold, God doeth loftily in his power: Who is a teacher like unto him? |
 36:22
Behold,º
Godº
exaltethºº
by his power:º
whoº
teachethºº
like him?º |
 36:23
Who hath enjoined him his way? Or who can say, Thou hast wrought unrighteousness? |
 36:23
Whoº
hath enjoinedººº
him his way?º
or whoº
can say,ºº
Thou hast wroughtºº
iniquity?º |
 36:24
Remember that thou magnify his work, Whereof men have sung. |
 36:24
Rememberºº
thatº
thou magnifyºº
his work,º
whichº
menºº
behold.ººº |
 36:25
All men have looked thereon; Man beholdeth it afar off. |
 36:25
Everyº
manº
may seeºº
it; manº
may beholdºº
[it] afar off.ºº |
 36:26
Behold, God is great, and we know him not; The number of his years is unsearchable. |
 36:26
Behold,º
Godº
[is] great,º
and we knowºº
[him] not,º
neitherº
can the numberº
of his yearsº
be searched out.º |
 36:27
For he draweth up the drops of water, Which distil in rain from his vapor, |
 36:27
Forº
he maketh smallºº
the dropsº
of water:º
they pour downºº
rainº
according to the vapourº
thereof: |
 36:28
Which the skies pour down And drop upon man abundantly. |
 36:28
Whichº
the cloudsº
do dropºº
[and] distilºº
uponº
manº
abundantly.º |
 36:29
Yea, can any understand the spreadings of the clouds, The thunderings of his pavilion? |
 36:29
Alsoºº
can [any] understandºº
the spreadingsº
of the clouds,º
[or] the noiseº
of his tabernacle?º |
 36:30
Behold, he spreadeth his light around him; And he covereth the bottom of the sea. |
 36:30
Behold,º
he spreadethºº
his lightº
uponº
it, and coverethºº
the bottomº
of the sea.º |
 36:31
For by these he judgeth the peoples; He giveth food in abundance. |
 36:31
Forº
by them judgethºº
he the people;º
he givethºº
meatº
in abundance.ºº |
 36:32
He covereth his hands with the lightning, And giveth it a charge that it strike the mark. |
 36:32
Withº
cloudsº
he coverethºº
the light;º
and commandethºº
it [not to shine] byº
[the cloud] that cometh betwixt.ºº |
 36:33
The noise thereof telleth concerning him, The cattle also concerning [the storm] that cometh up. |
 36:33
The noiseº
thereof shewethºº
concerningº
it, the cattleº
alsoº
concerningº
the vapour.ºº |
