 22:1 ¶
Then answered Eliphaz the Temanite, and said, |
|
 22:1 ¶
Then Eliphazº
the Temaniteº
answeredºº
and said,ºº |
 22:2
Can a man be profitable unto God? Surely he that is wise is profitable unto himself. |
 22:2
Can a manº
be profitableºº
unto God,º
asº
he thatº
is wiseºº
may be profitableºº
untoº
himself? |
 22:3
Is it any pleasure to the Almighty, that thou art righteous? Or is it gain [to him], that thou makest thy ways perfect? |
 22:3
[Is it] any pleasureº
to the Almighty,º
thatº
thou art righteous?ºº
orº
[is it] gainº
[to him], thatº
thou makest thy waysº
perfect?ººº |
 22:4
Is it for thy fear [of him] that he reproveth thee, That he entereth with thee into judgment? |
 22:4
Will he reproveºº
thee for fearºº
of thee? will he enterºº
withº
thee into judgment?º |
 22:5
Is not thy wickedness great? Neither is there any end to thine iniquities. |
 22:5
[Is] notº
thy wickednessº
great?º
and thine iniquitiesº
infinite?ºº |
 22:6
For thou hast taken pledges of thy brother for nought, And stripped the naked of their clothing. |
 22:6
Forº
thou hast taken a pledgeºº
from thy brotherº
for nought,º
and strippedºº
the nakedº
of their clothing.º |
 22:7
Thou hast not given water to the weary to drink, And thou hast withholden bread from the hungry. |
 22:7
Thou hast notº
given waterº
to the wearyº
to drink,ºº
and thou hast withholdenºº
breadº
from the hungry.ºº |
 22:8
But as for the mighty man, he had the earth; And the honorable man, he dwelt in it. |
 22:8
But [as for] the mightyº
man,º
he had the earth;º
and the honourable manººº
dweltºº
in it. |
 22:9
Thou hast sent widows away empty, And the arms of the fatherless have been broken. |
 22:9
Thou hast sentºº
widowsº
awayºº
empty,º
and the armsº
of the fatherlessº
have been broken.ºº |
 22:10
Therefore snares are round about thee, And sudden fear troubleth thee, |
 22:10
Thereforeºº
snaresº
[are] round aboutº
thee, and suddenº
fearº
troublethºº
thee; |
 22:11
Or darkness, so that thou canst not see, And abundance of waters cover thee. |
 22:11
Orº
darkness,º
[that] thou canst notº
see;ºº
and abundanceº
of watersº
coverºº
thee. |
 22:12
Is not God in the height of heaven? And behold the height of the stars, how high they are! |
 22:12
[Is] notº
Godº
in the heightº
of heaven?º
and beholdºº
the heightº
of the stars,º
howº
highºº
they are!º |
 22:13
And thou sayest, What doth God know? Can he judge through the thick darkness? |
 22:13
And thou sayest,ºº
Howº
doth Godº
know?ºº
can he judgeºº
throughº
the dark cloud?º |
 22:14
Thick clouds are a covering to him, so that he seeth not; And he walketh on the vault of heaven. |
 22:14
Thick cloudsº
[are] a coveringº
to him, that he seethºº
not;º
and he walkethºº
in the circuitº
of heaven.º |
 22:15
Wilt thou keep the old way Which wicked men have trodden? |
 22:15
Hast thou markedºº
the oldº
wayº
whichº
wickedº
menº
have trodden?ºº |
 22:16
Who were snatched away before their time, Whose foundation was poured out as a stream, |
 22:16
Whichº
were cut downºº
out ofº
time,º
whose foundationº
was overflownºº
with a flood:º |
 22:17
Who said unto God, Depart from us; And, What can the Almighty do for us? |
 22:17
Which saidºº
unto God,º
Departºº
fromº
us: and whatº
can the Almightyº
doºº
for them? |
 22:18
Yet he filled their houses with good things: But the counsel of the wicked is far from me. |
 22:18
Yet heº
filledºº
their housesº
with goodº
[things]: but the counselº
of the wickedº
is farºº
fromº
me. |
 22:19
The righteous see it, and are glad; And the innocent laugh them to scorn, |
 22:19
The righteousº
seeºº
[it], and are glad:ºº
and the innocentº
laugh them to scorn.ºº |
 22:20
[Saying], Surely they that did rise up against us are cut off, And the remnant of them the fire hath consumed. |
 22:20
Whereasº
our substanceº
is notº
cut down,ºº
but the remnantº
of them the fireº
consumeth.ºº |
 22:21
Acquaint now thyself with him, and be at peace: Thereby good shall come unto thee. |
 22:21
Acquaintºº
nowº
thyself withº
him, and be at peace:ºº
thereby goodº
shall comeºº
unto thee. |
 22:22
Receive, I pray thee, the law from his mouth, And lay up his words in thy heart. |
 22:22
Receive,ºº
I pray thee,º
the lawº
from his mouth,ºº
and lay upºº
his wordsº
in thine heart.º |
 22:23
If thou return to the Almighty, thou shalt be built up, If thou put away unrighteousness far from thy tents. |
 22:23
Ifº
thou returnºº
toº
the Almighty,º
thou shalt be built up,ºº
thou shalt put awayºº
iniquityº
farºº
from thy tabernacles.ºº |
 22:24
And lay thou [thy] treasure in the dust, And [the gold of] Ophir among the stones of the brooks; |
 22:24
Then shalt thou lay upºº
goldº
asº
dust,º
and the [gold] of Ophirº
as the stonesº
of the brooks.º |
 22:25
And the Almighty will be thy treasure, And precious silver unto thee. |
 22:25
Yea, the Almightyº
shall beº
thy defence,º
and thou shalt have plentyº
of silver.º |
 22:26
For then shalt thou delight thyself in the Almighty, And shalt lift up thy face unto God. |
 22:26
Forº
thenº
shalt thou have thy delightºº
inº
the Almighty,º
and shalt lift upºº
thy faceº
untoº
God.º |
 22:27
Thou shalt make thy prayer unto him, and he will hear thee; And thou shalt pay thy vows. |
 22:27
Thou shalt make thy prayerºº
untoº
him, and he shall hearºº
thee, and thou shalt payºº
thy vows.º |
 22:28
Thou shalt also decree a thing, and it shall be established unto thee; And light shall shine upon thy ways. |
 22:28
Thou shalt also decreeºº
a thing,º
and it shall be establishedºº
unto thee: and the lightº
shall shineºº
uponº
thy ways.º |
 22:29
When they cast [thee] down, thou shalt say, [There is] lifting up; And the humble person he will save. |
 22:29
Whenº
[men] are cast down,ºº
then thou shalt say,ºº
[There is] lifting up;º
and he shall saveºº
the humbleº
person.ºº |
 22:30
He will deliver [even] him that is not innocent: Yea, he shall be delivered through the cleanness of thy hands. |
 22:30
He shall deliverºº
the islandº
of the innocent:º
and it is deliveredºº
by the purenessº
of thine hands.º |
