ASV 1901 < < Ezra 9 > > KJV 1769
1 Ezra mourneth for the affinity of the people with strangers. 5 He prayeth unto God with confession of sins.
 9:1 ¶
Now when these things were done, the princes drew near unto me, saying, The people of Israel, and the priests and the Levites, have not separated themselves from the peoples of the lands, [doing] according to their abominations, even of the Canaanites, the Hittites, the Perizzites, the Jebusites, the Ammonites, the Moabites, the Egyptians, and the Amorites. |
|
 9:1 ¶
Now when these thingsº
were done,ºº
the princesº
cameºº
toº
me, saying,ºº
The peopleº
of Israel,º
and the priests,º
and the Levites,º
have notº
separatedºº
themselvesº
from the peopleºº
of the lands,º
[doing] according to their abominations,º
[even] of the Canaanites,º
the Hittites,º
the Perizzites,º
the Jebusites,º
the Ammonites,º
the Moabites,º
the Egyptians,º
and the Amorites.º |
 9:2
For they have taken of their daughters for themselves and for their sons, so that the holy seed have mingled themselves with the peoples of the lands: yea, the hand of the princes and rulers hath been chief in this trespass. |
 9:2
Forº
they have takenºº
of their daughtersºº
for themselves, and for their sons:º
so that the holyº
seedº
have mingledºº
themselvesº
with the peopleº
of [those] lands:º
yea, the handº
of the princesº
and rulersº
hath beenº
chiefº
in thisº
trespass.º |
 9:3
And when I heard this thing, I rent my garment and my robe, and plucked off the hair of my head and of my beard, and sat down confounded. |
 9:3
And when I heardººº
thisº
thing,º
I rentººº
my garmentº
and my mantle,º
and plucked offºº
the hairºº
of my headº
and of my beard,º
and sat downºº
astonied.ºº |
 9:4
Then were assembled unto me every one that trembled at the words of the God of Israel, because of the trespass of them of the captivity; and I sat confounded until the evening oblation. |
 9:4
Then were assembledºº
untoº
me every oneº
that trembledº
at the wordsº
of the Godº
of Israel,º
becauseº
of the transgressionº
of those that had been carried away;º
and Iº
satºº
astoniedºº
untilº
the eveningº
sacrifice.º |
 9:5 ¶
And at the evening oblation I arose up from my humiliation, even with my garment and my robe rent; and I fell upon my knees, and spread out my hands unto Jehovah my God; |
 9:5 ¶
And at the eveningº
sacrificeº
I arose upºº
from my heaviness;ºº
and having rentºº
my garmentº
and my mantle,º
I fellºº
uponº
my knees,º
and spread outºº
my handsº
untoº
the LORDº
my God,º |
 9:6
and I said, O my God, I am ashamed and blush to lift up my face to thee, my God; for our iniquities are increased over our head, and our guiltiness is grown up unto the heavens. |
 9:6
And said,ºº
O my God,º
I am ashamedºº
and blushºº
to lift upºº
my faceº
toº
thee, my God:º
forº
our iniquitiesº
are increasedºº
overº
[our] head,º
and our trespassº
is grown upºº
untoº
the heavens.º |
 9:7
Since the days of our fathers we have been exceeding guilty unto this day; and for our iniquities have we, our kings, and our priests, been delivered into the hand of the kings of the lands, to the sword, to captivity, and to plunder, and to confusion of face, as it is this day. |
 9:7
Since the daysºº
of our fathersº
[have] weº
[been] in a greatº
trespassº
untoº
thisº
day;º
and for our iniquitiesº
have we,º
our kings,º
[and] our priests,º
been deliveredºº
into the handº
of the kingsº
of the lands,º
to the sword,º
to captivity,º
and to a spoil,º
and to confusionº
of face,º
as [it is] thisº
day.º |
 9:8
And now for a little moment grace hath been showed from Jehovah our God, to leave us a remnant to escape, and to give us a nail in his holy place, that our God may lighten our eyes, and give us a little reviving in our bondage. |
 9:8
And nowº
for a littleº
spaceº
graceº
hath beenº
[shewed] fromºº
the LORDº
our God,º
to leaveºº
us a remnant to escape,º
and to giveºº
us a nailº
in his holyº
place,º
that our Godº
may lightenºº
our eyes,º
and giveºº
us a littleº
revivingº
in our bondage.º |
 9:9
For we are bondmen; yet our God hath not forsaken us in our bondage, but hath extended lovingkindness unto us in the sight of the kings of Persia, to give us a reviving, to set up the house of our God, and to repair the ruins thereof, and to give us a wall in Judah and in Jerusalem. |
 9:9
Forº
weº
[were] bondmen;º
yet our Godº
hath notº
forsakenºº
us in our bondage,º
but hath extendedºº
mercyº
untoº
us in the sightº
of the kingsº
of Persia,º
to giveºº
us a reviving,º
to set upººº
the houseº
of our God,º
and to repairººº
the desolationsº
thereof, and to giveºº
us a wallº
in Judahº
and in Jerusalem.º |
 9:10
And now, O our God, what shall we say after this? for we have forsaken thy commandments, |
 9:10
And now,º
O our God,º
whatº
shall we sayºº
afterº
this?º
forº
we have forsakenºº
thy commandments,º |
 9:11
which thou hast commanded by thy servants the prophets, saying, The land, unto which ye go to possess it, is an unclean land through the uncleanness of the peoples of the lands, through their abominations, which have filled it from one end to another with their filthiness: |
 9:11
Whichº
thou hast commandedºº
byº
thy servantsº
the prophets,º
saying,ºº
The land,º
unto whichº
yeº
goºº
to possessºº
it, is an uncleanº
landº
with the filthinessº
of the peopleº
of the lands,º
with their abominations,º
whichº
have filledºº
it from one endºº
toº
anotherº
with their uncleanness.º |
 9:12
now therefore give not your daughters unto their sons, neither take their daughters unto your sons, nor seek their peace or their prosperity for ever; that ye may be strong, and eat the good of the land, and leave it for an inheritance to your children for ever. |
 9:12
Nowº
therefore giveºº
notº
your daughtersº
unto their sons,º
neitherº
takeºº
their daughtersº
unto your sons,º
norº
seekºº
their peaceº
or their wealthº
forº
ever:ºº
thatº
ye may be strong,ºº
and eatººº
the goodº
of the land,º
and leave [it] for an inheritanceºº
to your childrenº
for ever.ºº |
 9:13
And after all that is come upon us for our evil deeds, and for our great guilt, seeing that thou our God hast punished us less than our iniquities deserve, and hast given us such a remnant, |
 9:13
And afterº
allº
that is comeºº
uponº
us for our evilº
deeds,º
and for our greatº
trespass,º
seeingº
that thouº
our Godº
hast punishedºº
us lessº
than our iniquitiesºº
[deserve], and hast givenºº
us [such] deliveranceº
as this;º |
 9:14
shall we again break thy commandments, and join in affinity with the peoples that do these abominations? wouldest not thou be angry with us till thou hadst consumed us, so that there should be no remnant, nor any to escape? |
 9:14
Should we againºº
breakºº
thy commandments,º
and join in affinityºº
with the peopleº
of theseº
abominations?º
wouldest notº
thou be angryºº
with us tillº
thou hadst consumedºº
[us], so that [there should be] noº
remnantº
nor escaping?º |
 9:15
O Jehovah, the God of Israel, thou art righteous; for we are left a remnant that is escaped, as it is this day: behold, we are before thee in our guiltiness; for none can stand before thee because of this. |
 9:15
O LORDº
Godº
of Israel,º
thouº
[art] righteous:º
forº
we remainºº
yet escaped,º
as [it is] thisº
day:º
behold,º
we [are] beforeº
thee in our trespasses:º
forº
we cannotº
standºº
beforeº
thee becauseº
of this.º |
