 11:1 ¶ Then all Israel gathered themselves to David unto Hebron, saying, Behold, we are thy bone and thy flesh.

 11:1 ¶ Then allº Israelº gatheredºº themselvesº toº Davidº unto Hebron,º saying,ºº Behold,º weº [are] thy boneº and thy flesh.º

 11:2 In times past, even when Saul was king, it was thou that leddest out and broughtest in Israel: and Jehovah thy God said unto thee, Thou shalt be shepherd of my people Israel, and thou shalt be prince over my people Israel.

 11:2 And moreoverº in timeº past,ººº evenº when Saulº wasº king,º thouº [wast] he that leddest outºº and broughtest inººº Israel:º and the LORDº thy Godº saidºº unto thee, Thouº shalt feedººº my peopleºº Israel,º and thouº shalt beº rulerº overº my peopleºº Israel.º

 11:3 So all the elders of Israel came to the king to Hebron; and David made a covenant with them in Hebron before Jehovah; and they anointed David king over Israel, according to the word of Jehovah by Samuel.

 11:3 Therefore cameºº allº the eldersº of Israelº toº the kingº to Hebron;º and Davidº madeºº a covenantº with them in Hebronº beforeº the LORD;º and they anointedººº Davidº kingº overº Israel,º according to the wordº of the LORDº byº Samuel.º

 11:4 ¶ And David and all Israel went to Jerusalem (the same is Jebus); and the Jebusites, the inhabitants of the land, were there.

 11:4 ¶ And Davidº and allº Israelº wentººº to Jerusalem,º whichº [is] Jebus;º whereº the Jebusitesº [were], the inhabitantsºº of the land.º

 11:5 And the inhabitants of Jebus said to David, Thou shalt not come in hither. Nevertheless David took the stronghold of Zion; the same is the city of David.

 11:5 And the inhabitantsºº of Jebusº saidºº to David,º Thou shalt notº comeºº hither.º Nevertheless Davidº tookººº the castleº of Zion,º whichº [is] the cityº of David.º

 11:6 And David said, Whosoever smiteth the Jebusites first shall be chief and captain. And Joab the son of Zeruiah went up first, and was made chief.

 11:6 And Davidº said,ºº Whosoeverº smitethºº the Jebusitesº firstº shall beº chiefº and captain.º So Joabº the sonº of Zeruiahº wentºº firstº up,ººº and wasº chief.º

 11:7 And David dwelt in the stronghold; therefore they called it the city of David.

 11:7 And Davidº dweltºº in the castle;º thereforeºº they calledºº it the cityº of David.º

 11:8 And he built the city round about, from Millo even round about; and Joab repaired the rest of the city.

 11:8 And he builtºº the cityº round about,ºº even fromº Milloº round about:º and Joabº repairedººº the restº of the city.º

 11:9 And David waxed greater and greater; for Jehovah of hosts was with him.

 11:9 So Davidº waxedºº greaterºº and greater:ººº for the LORDº of hostsº [was] withº him.

 11:10 ¶ Now these are the chief of the mighty men whom David had, who showed themselves strong with him in his kingdom, together with all Israel, to make him king, according to the word of Jehovah concerning Israel.

 11:10 ¶ Theseº also [are] the chiefº of the mighty menº whomº Davidº had, who strengthenedºº themselvesº withº him in his kingdom,º [and] withº allº Israel,º to make him king,ºº according to the wordº of the LORDº concerningº Israel.º

 11:11 And this is the number of the mighty men whom David had: Jashobeam, the son of a Hachmonite, the chief of the thirty; he lifted up his spear against three hundred and slew them at one time.

 11:11 And thisº [is] the numberº of the mighty menº whomº Davidº had; Jashobeam,º an Hachmonite,ºº the chiefº of the captains:ººº heº lifted upººº his spearº againstº threeº hundredº slainº [by him] at oneº time.º

 11:12 And after him was Eleazar the son of Dodo, the Ahohite, who was one of the three mighty men.

 11:12 And afterº him [was] Eleazarº the sonº of Dodo,º the Ahohite,º whoº [was one] of the threeº mighties.º

 11:13 He was with David at Pasdammim, and there the Philistines were gathered together to battle, where was a plot of ground full of barley; and the people fled from before the Philistines.

 11:13 Heº wasº withº Davidº at Pasdammim,º and thereº the Philistinesº were gathered togetherºº to battle,º where wasº a parcelº of groundº fullº of barley;º and the peopleº fledºº from beforeºº the Philistines.º

 11:14 And they stood in the midst of the plot, and defended it, and slew the Philistines; and Jehovah saved them by a great victory.

 11:14 And they setºº themselvesº in the midstº of [that] parcel,º and deliveredºº it, and slewººº the Philistines;º and the LORDº savedºº [them] by a greatº deliverance.º

 11:15 ¶ And three of the thirty chief men went down to the rock to David, into the cave of Adullam; and the host of the Philistines were encamped in the valley of Rephaim.

 11:15 ¶ Now threeº ofº the thirtyº captainsº went downºº toº the rockº toº David,º intoº the caveº of Adullam;º and the hostº of the Philistinesº encampedºº in the valleyº of Rephaim.º

 11:16 And David was then in the stronghold, and the garrison of the Philistines was then in Beth-lehem.

 11:16 And Davidº [was] thenº in the hold,º and the Philistines'º garrisonº [was] thenº at Bethlehem.º

 11:17 And David longed, and said, Oh that one would give me water to drink of the well of Beth-lehem, which is by the gate!

 11:17 And Davidº longed,ºº and said,ºº Oh thatº one would give me drinkºº of the waterº of the wellºº of Bethlehem,º thatº [is] at the gate!º

 11:18 And the three brake through the host of the Philistines, and drew water out of the well of Beth-lehem, that was by the gate, and took it, and brought it to David: but David would not drink thereof, but poured it out unto Jehovah,

 11:18 And the threeº brake throughºº the hostº of the Philistines,º and drewºº waterº out of the wellºº of Bethlehem,º thatº [was] by the gate,º and tookºº [it], and broughtºº [it] toº David:º but Davidº wouldºº notº drinkºº [of] it, but poured it outººº to the LORD,º

 11:19 and said, My God forbid it me, that I should do this: shall I drink the blood of these men that have put their lives in jeopardy? for with [the jeopardy of] their lives they brought it. Therefore he would not drink it. These things did the three mighty men.

 11:19 And said,ºº My Godºº forbidº itº me, that I should doººº this thing:º shall I drinkºº the bloodº of theseº menºº that have put their livesº in jeopardy?º forº with [the jeopardy of] their livesº they broughtºº it. Therefore he wouldºº notº drinkºº it. These thingsº didºº these threeº mightiest.º

 11:20 ¶ And Abishai, the brother of Joab, he was chief of the three; for he lifted up his spear against three hundred and slew them, and had a name among the three.

 11:20 ¶ And Abishaiº the brotherº of Joab,º heº wasº chiefº of the three:º for lifting upººº his spearº againstº threeº hundred,º heº slewº [them], and had a nameº among the three.º

 11:21 Of the three, he was more honorable than the two, and was made their captain: howbeit he attained not to the [first] three.

 11:21 Ofº the three,º he was more honourableºº than the two;º for he wasº their captain:º howbeit he attainedºº notº toº the [first] three.º

 11:22 Benaiah the son of Jehoiada, the son of a valiant man of Kabzeel, who had done mighty deeds, he slew the two [sons of] Ariel of Moab: he went down also and slew a lion in the midst of a pit in time of snow.

 11:22 Benaiahº the sonº of Jehoiada,ºº the sonº of a valiantº manº ofº Kabzeel,º who had done manyº acts;º heº slewººº twoº lionlike menº of Moab:º also heº went downºº and slewººº a lionº inº a pitº in a snowyº day.º

 11:23 And he slew an Egyptian, a man of great stature, five cubits high; and in the Egyptian's hand was a spear like a weaver's beam; and he went down to him with a staff, and plucked the spear out of the Egyptian's hand, and slew him with his own spear.

 11:23 And heº slewººº an Egyptian,ºº a manº of [great] stature,º fiveº cubitsº high; and in the Egyptian'sº handº [was] a spearº like a weaver'sºº beam;º and he went downºº toº him with a staff,º and pluckedººº the spearº out of the Egyptian'sº hand,ººº and slewºº him with his own spear.º

 11:24 These things did Benaiah the son of Jehoiada, and had a name among the three mighty men.

 11:24 Theseº [things] didºº Benaiahº the sonº of Jehoiada,ºº and had the nameº among the threeº mighties.º

 11:25 Behold, he was more honorable than the thirty, but he attained not to the [first] three: and David set him over his guard.

 11:25 Behold,º heº was honourableºº amongº the thirty,º but attainedºº notº toº the [first] three:º and Davidº setºº him overº his guard.º

 11:26 ¶ Also the mighty men of the armies: Asahel the brother of Joab, Elhanan the son of Dodo of Beth-lehem,

 11:26 ¶ Also the valiant menº of the armiesº [were], Asahelº the brotherº of Joab,º Elhananº the sonº of Dodoº of Bethlehem,ºº

 11:27 Shammoth the Harorite, Helez the Pelonite,

 11:27 Shammothº the Harorite,º Helezº the Pelonite,º

 11:28 Ira the son of Ikkesh the Tekoite, Abiezer the Anathothite,

 11:28 Iraº the sonº of Ikkeshº the Tekoite,º Abiezerº the Antothite,º

 11:29 Sibbecai the Hushathite, Ilai the Ahohite,

 11:29 Sibbecaiº the Hushathite,º Ilaiº the Ahohite,º

 11:30 Maharai the Netophathite, Heled the son of Baanah the Netophathite,
