whom I would fain have kept with me, that in thy behalf he might minister unto me in the bonds of the gospel:

Whomª Iª wouldª° have retainedª° withª me,ª thatª in thy² steadª¹ he might have ministered²° unto¹ meª inª the¹ bondsª of the¹ gospel:ª

Whomeª Iª wouldª° haue reteinedª° withª mee,ª thatª in thy² steadª¹ hee might haue ministred²° vnto¹ meª inª the¹ bondsª of the¹ Gospel.ª

For I would have retained him with me, that he might have served me for thy sake in the bonds of the gospel;

For I was desirous to retain him with me, that he might minister to me in thy stead, in these bonds for the gospel.
