And this they said, trying him, that they might have [whereof] to accuse him. But Jesus stooped down, and with his finger wrote on the ground.

ª Thisª they said,ª° temptingª° him,ª thatª they might haveª° to accuseª° him.ª Butª Jesusª stoopedª° down,ª and with [his] fingerª wroteª° onª the¹ ground,ª [as though he heardª° them not].ª

And this they said, tempting him, so that they might have [ground] to accuse him. But Jesus having stooped down, was writing on the ground.
