- where:
- This place, where the legs and entrails of the sacrifices, especially of the burnt offerings, were washed, was just within the portico of the north entrance to the inner court, or court of the priests. An allusion to this is most probably made by the inspired apostle when writing his Epistle to the Hebrews ("Let us draw nearª° withª a trueª heartª inª full assuranceª of faith,ª having²° our heartsª sprinkledª° fromª an evilª conscience,ª andª our bodiesª washedª° with pureª water.ª" {Hbr 10:22}). "Let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience, and our bodies washed with pure water." "But his inwardsª and his legsª shall he washª° in water:ª and the priestª shall burnª°¹ all¹ on the altar,ª [to be] a burnt sacrifice,ª an offering made by fire,ª of a sweetª savourª unto the LORD.ª" {Lev 1:9} + "And he washedª° the inwardsª and the legsª in water;ª and Mosesª burntª°¹ the whole¹ ramª upon the altar:ª it¹ [was] a burnt sacrificeª for a sweetª savour,ª [and] an offering made by fireª unto the LORD;ª as¹ the LORDª commandedª°¹ Moses.ª" {Lev 8:21} + "Let us draw nearª° withª a trueª heartª inª full assuranceª of faith,ª having²° our heartsª sprinkledª° fromª an evilª conscience,ª andª our bodiesª washedª° with pureª water.ª" {Hbr 10:22}
