- Thy riches:
- In these beautiful and expressive figures, Tyre is represented as a ship at sea, wrecked through the mistakes of her pilots and rowers; that is, destroyed by Nebuchadnezzar, and afterwards by Alexander, in consequence of her rulers having pertinaciously resolved to withstand those haughty conquerors. This vast ship, laden with all kinds of valuable wares, being wrecked, all her valuables, sailors, officers, etc. went to the bottom. "Fine linenª with broidered workª from Egyptª¹ was¹ that which thou spreadest forthª to be¹ thy sail;ª blueª and purpleª from the islesª¹ of Elishahª was¹ that which coveredª thee. ... The ancientsª of Gebalª and the wiseª [men] thereof were¹ in thee thy calkers:ªª° all¹ the shipsª of the seaª with their marinersª were¹ in thee to occupy²°¹ thy merchandise.ª" {Ezk 27:7-9} + "Tarshishª [was] thy merchantª° by reason of the multitudeª¹ of all¹ [kind of] riches;ª with silver,ª iron,ª tin,ª and lead,ª they tradedª° in thy fairs.ª" {Ezk 27:12} + "Damascusª [was] thy merchantª° in the multitudeª of the wares of thy making,ª for the multitudeª¹ of all¹ riches;ª in the wineª of Helbon,ª and whiteª wool.ª ... Danª°² also and Javanª going to and froª° occupiedª° in thy fairs:ª brightª iron,ª cassia,ª and calamus,ª were¹ in thy market.ª" {Ezk 27:18-19} + "The merchantsª° of Shebaª and Raamah,ª they¹ [were] thy merchants:ª° they occupiedª° in thy fairsª with chiefª of all¹ spices,ª and with all¹ preciousª stones,ª and gold.ª" {Ezk 27:22} + "These¹ [were] thy merchantsª° in all sortsª [of things], in blueª clothes,ª and broidered work,ª and in chestsª of rich apparel,ª boundª° with cords,ª and made of cedar,ª among thy merchandise.ª" {Ezk 27:24} + "In the timeª [when] thou shalt be brokenª° by the seasª¹ in the depthsª of the watersª thy merchandiseª and all¹ thy companyª in the midstª of thee shall fall.ª°" {Ezk 27:34} + "And they shall make a spoilª° of thy riches,ª and make a preyª° of thy merchandise:ª and they shall break downª° thy walls,ª and destroyª° thy pleasantª houses:ª and they shall layª° thy stonesª and thy timberª and thy dustª in the midstª of the water.ª" {Ezk 26:12} + "Richesª profitª° not¹ in the dayª of wrath:ª but righteousnessª deliverethª° from death.ª¹" {Prv 11:4} + "Andª the¹ merchantsª of the¹ earthª shall weepª° andª mournª° overª her;ª forª no manª buyethª° their²¹ merchandiseª any more:ª ... Andª inª herª was foundª° the bloodª of prophets,ª andª of saints,ª andª of allª that were slainª° uponª the¹ earth.ª" {Rev 18:11-24}
