In his place:
Instead of al omdo, "in his place," the parallel passage, "And the kingª stoodª ° by¹ a pillar,ª and madeª °¹ a covenantª beforeª the LORD,ª to walk² °¹ afterª the LORD,ª and to keepª ° his commandmentsª and his testimoniesª and his statutesª with all¹ [their] heartª and all¹ [their] soul,ª to performª °¹ the wordsª of this¹ covenantª that were writtenª ° in¹ this¹ book.ª And all¹ the peopleª stoodª ° to the covenant.ª" {2Kg 23:3}, has al haammood, "by the pillar;" which is probably the true reading, as the LXX in both places read τον στυλον, "the pillar." made a covenant:
This was expressed:

1. In general, to walk after Jehovah; to have no gods beside him.
2. To take this law for the regulation of their conduct.
3. In particular, to bend their whole heart and soul to the performance of it; so that they might not only have religion without, but piety within. "And Jehoiadaª madeª ° a covenantª between¹ him, and between¹ all¹ the people,ª and between¹ the king,ª that they should be¹ the LORD'Sª people.ª" {2Ch 23:16} + "Now¹ [it is] in¹ mine heartª to makeª ° a covenantª with the LORDª Godª of Israel,ª that his fierceª wrathª may turn awayª ° from¹ us." {2Ch 29:10} + "And Mosesª tookª ° halfª of the blood,ª and putª ° [it] in basons;ª and halfª of the bloodª he sprinkledª ° on¹ the altar.ª ...
