were come:
"So Davidª and his men² ¹ rose up earlyª ° to depart² °¹ in the morning,ª to returnª ° into¹ the landª of the Philistines.ª And the Philistinesª went upª ° to Jezreel.ª" {1Sm 29:11} + "It came even to pass¹ on the thirdª day,ª that, behold,¹ a manª cameª ° out of¹ the campª from¹ ¹ Saulª with his clothesª rent,ª ° and earthª upon¹ his head:ª and [so] it was,¹ when he cameª ° to¹ David,ª that he fellª ° to the earth,ª and did obeisance.ª °" {2Sm 1:2}

This was the third day after he had left the Philistine army at Aphek, from which place, Calmet supposes, Ziklag was distant more than thirty leagues.

the Amalekites:
"And Saulª smoteª °¹ the Amalekitesª from Havilahª ¹ [until] thou comestª ° to Shur,ª that¹ [is] over¹ againstª Egypt.ª" {1Sm 15:7} + "And Davidª and his men² ¹ went up,ª ° and invadedª °¹ the Geshurites,ª and the Gezrites,ª and the Amalekites:ª for¹ thoseª [nations were] of oldª ¹ ¹ the inhabitantsª ° of the land,ª as thou goestª ° to Shur,ª even unto¹ the landª of Egypt.ª ...
