What man:
"Now afterª the deathª of Joshuaª it came to pass,¹ that the childrenª of Israelª askedª ° the LORD,ª saying,ª ° Who¹ shall go upª ° for us against¹ the Canaanitesª first,ª to fightª ° against them?" {Jdg 1:1} + "And it was¹ so, that when¹ the childrenª of Ammonª made warª ° against¹ Israel,ª the eldersª of Gileadª went² °¹ to fetchª °¹ Jephthahª out of the landª ¹ of Tob:ª ... And the eldersª of Gileadª saidª ° unto¹ Jephthah,ª Therefore¹ we turn againª ° to¹ thee now,¹ that thou mayest goª ° with¹ us, and fightª ° against the childrenª of Ammon,ª and be¹ our headª over all¹ the inhabitantsª ° of Gilead.ª" {Jdg 11:5-8} + "For,¹ behold,¹ the Lord,ª the LORDª of hosts,ª doth take awayª ° from Jerusalemª ¹ and from Judahª ¹ the stayª and the staff,ª the whole¹ stayª of bread,ª and the wholeª stayª of water,ª ... he shall be:
"Then Jephthahª went² °¹ with¹ the eldersª of Gilead,ª and the peopleª madeª ° him headª and captainª over¹ them: and Jephthahª utteredª °¹ all¹ his wordsª beforeª the LORDª in Mizpeh.ª" {Jdg 11:11} + "And Jephthahª judgedª °¹ Israelª sixª years.ª Then diedª ° Jephthahª the Gileadite,ª and was buriedª ° in [one of] the citiesª of Gilead.ª" {Jdg 12:7} + "And the menª of Israelª said,ª ° Have ye seenª ° this¹ manª that is come up?ª ° surely¹ to defyª °¹ Israelª is he come up:ª ° and it shall be,¹ [that] the manª who¹ killethª ° him, the kingª will enrichª ° him with greatª riches,ª and will giveª ° him his daughter,ª and makeª ° his father'sª houseª freeª in Israel.ª" {1Sm 17:25}
