- without the camp:
- Heb. to without the camp, This was intended, figuratively, to express the enormity of this sin, and the availableness of the atonement. The sacrifice, as having the sin of the priest transferred from himself to it, by his confession and imposition of hands, was become unclean and abominable, and was carried, as it were, out of God's sight; and thus its own offensiveness was removed, with the sin of the person in whose behalf it was offered. "All¹ the daysª wherein¹ the plagueª [shall be] in him he shall be defiled;ª° he¹ [is] unclean:ª he shall dwellª° alone;ª withoutª¹ the campª [shall] his habitationª [be]." {Lev 13:46} + "Both maleª¹ and¹ femaleª shall ye put out,ª° withoutª¹¹ the campª shall ye putª° them; that they defileª° not¹¹ their camps,ª in the midstª whereofª I¹ dwell.ª°" {Num 5:3} + "And the LORDª saidª° unto¹ Moses,ª The manª shall be surely²° put to death:ª° all¹ the congregationª shall stoneª° him with stonesª withoutª¹ the camp.ª" {Num 15:35} + "And ye shall giveª° her unto¹ Eleazarª the priest,ª that he may bring her forthª°¹ withoutª¹¹ the camp,ª and [one] shall slayª° her beforeª his face:" {Num 19:3}
