- ten times:
- The Hebrew, âsereth monim, is literally, as Aquila renders, "ten numbers;" and Symmachus, "ten times in number;" which probably implies an indefinite number. (See note on "Thus¹ have I been twentyª yearsª in thy house;ª I served¹ thee²° fourteenªª yearsª for thy twoª daughters,ª and sixª yearsª for thy cattle:ª and thou hast changedª°¹ my wagesª tenª times.ª" {Gen 31:41}.) "[And] when I have brokenª° the staffª of your bread,ª tenª womenª shall bakeª° your breadª in oneª oven,ª and they shall deliver²° [you] your bread² againª°¹ by weight:ª and ye shall eat,ª° and not¹ be satisfied.ª°" {Lev 26:26} + "Because¹ all¹ those men²¹ which have seenª°¹ my glory,ª and my miracles,ª which¹ I didª° in Egyptª and in the wilderness,ª and have temptedª°² me now these¹ tenª times,ª and have not¹ hearkenedª° to my voice;ª" {Num 14:22} + "And it came to pass,¹ that when¹ the Jewsª which dweltª° by¹ them² came,ª° they saidª° unto us tenª times,ª From all¹¹ placesª whence¹ ye shall returnª° unto¹ us [they will be upon you]." {Neh 4:12} + "He hath fenced upª° my wayª that I cannot¹ pass,ª° and he hath setª° darknessª in¹ my paths.ª" {Job 19:8} + "And in that¹ dayª sevenª womenª shall take holdª° of oneª man,ª saying,ª° We will eatª° our own bread,ª and wearª° our own apparel:ª only¹ let us be calledª° by thy name,ª to take¹ away²° our reproach.ª" {Isa 4:1} + "Thus¹ saithª° the LORDª of hosts;ª In those¹ daysª [it shall come to pass], that¹ tenª men²¹ shall take holdª° out of all¹¹ languagesª of the nations,ª even shall take holdª° of the skirtª of him¹ that is a Jew,ª² saying,ª° We will go²°¹ with¹ you: for¹ we have heardª° [that] Godª [is] with¹ you." {Zch 8:23}
