6:1

6:2
a man 376 to whom 834 God 430 has given 5414 riches 6239 and wealth 5233 and honor 3519b so that his soul 5315 lacks 2638 nothing 369 of all 3605 that he desires 183; yet God 430 has not empowered 7980 him to eat 398 from them, for a foreigner 5237 enjoys 398 them. This 2088 is vanity 1892 and a severe 7451a affliction 2483.

¶ All 3605 a man’s 120 labor 5999 is for his mouth 6310 and yet 1571 the appetite 5315 is not satisfied 4390.

For what 4100 advantage 3148 does the wise 2450 man 2450 have over 4480 the fool 3684? What 4100 [advantage] does the poor 6041 man 6041 have, knowing 3045 [how] to walk 1980 before 5048 the living 2416a?

What 4758 the eyes 5869 see 4758 is better 2896a than 4480 what the soul 5315 desires 1980. This 2088 too 1571 is futility 1892 and a striving 7469 after wind 7307.

¶ Whatever 4100 7945 exists 1961 has already 3528 been named 7121 8034, and it is known 3045 what 834 man 120 is; for he cannot 3201 3808 dispute 1777 with him who 7945 is stronger 8623 than 4480 he is.

For there 3426 are many 7235a words 1697 which increase 7235a futility 1892. What 4100 [then] is the advantage 3148 to a man 120?

For who 4310 knows 3045 what 4100 is good 2896a for a man 120 during [his] lifetime 2425b, [during] the few 4557 years 3117 of his futile 1892 life 2425b? He will spend 6213a them like a shadow 6738. For who 4310 can tell 5046 a man 120 what 4100 will be after 310 him under 8478 the sun 8121?
