 2:1 ¶ Thou therefore, my child, be strengthened in the grace that is in Christ Jesus.

 2:1 ¶ Thouº therefore,º myº son,º be strongºº inº theº graceº thatº is inº Christº Jesus.º

 2:2 And the things which thou hast heard from me among many witnesses, the same commit thou to faithful men, who shall be able to teach others also.

 2:2 Andº the thingsº thatº thou hast heardºº ofº meº amongº manyº witnesses,º the sameº commitº thouºº to faithfulº men,º whoº shall beºº ableº to teachºº othersº also.º

 2:3 Suffer hardship with [me], as a good soldier of Christ Jesus.

 2:3 Thouº thereforeº endure hardness,ºº asº a goodº soldierº of Jesusº Christ.º

 2:4 No soldier on service entangleth himself in the affairs of [this] life; that he may please him who enrolled him as a soldier.

 2:4 No manº that warrethºº entangleth himselfºº withº theº affairsº of [this] life;º thatº he may pleaseºº him who hath chosen him to be a soldier.ºº

 2:5 And if also a man contend in the games, he is not crowned, except he have contended lawfully.

 2:5 Andº ifº a manº alsoº striveºº for masteries,º [yet] is heºº notº crowned,ºº exceptº he striveºº lawfully.º

 2:6 The husbandmen that laboreth must be the first to partake of the fruits.

 2:6 The husbandmanº that labourethºº mustº beºº firstº partakerººº of theº fruits.º

 2:7 Consider what I say; for the Lord shall give thee understanding in all things.

 2:7 Considerºº whatº I say;ºº andº theº Lordº giveºº theeº understandingº inº all things.º

 2:8 Remember Jesus Christ, risen from the dead, of the seed of David, according to my gospel:

 2:8 Rememberºº that Jesusº Christº ofº the seedº of Davidº was raisedºº fromº the deadº accordingº toº myº gospel:º

 2:9 wherein I suffer hardship unto bonds, as a malefactor; but the word of God is not bound.

 2:9 Whereinºº I suffer trouble,ºº asº an evil doer,º [even] untoº bonds;º butº theº wordº of Godº isºº notº bound.ºº

 2:10 Therefore I endure all things for the elect's sake, that they also may obtain the salvation which is in Christ Jesus with eternal glory.

 2:10 Thereforeºº I endureºº all thingsº forºº the elect'sº sakes,ººº thatº theyº mayºº alsoº obtainºº the salvationº whichº is inº Christº Jesusº withº eternalº glory.º

 2:11 Faithful is the saying: For if we died with him, we shall also live with him:

 2:11 [It is] a faithfulº saying:º Forº ifº we be dead withºº [him], we shallºº alsoº live withºº [him]:

 2:12 if we endure, we shall also reign with him: if we shall deny him, he also will deny us:

 2:12 Ifº we suffer,ºº we shallºº alsoº reign withºº [him]: ifº we denyºº [him], he alsoº will denyºº us:º

 2:13 if we are faithless, he abideth faithful; for he cannot deny himself.

 2:13 Ifº we believe not,ºº [yet] heº abidethºº faithful:º he cannotººº denyºº himself.º

 2:14 Of these things put them in remembrance, charging [them] in the sight of the Lord, that they strive not about words, to no profit, to the subverting of them that hear.

 2:14 Of these thingsº put [them] in remembrance,ºº chargingºº [them] beforeº theº Lordº that they striveºº notº about wordsººº toº noº profit,ººº [but] toº the subvertingº of theº hearers.ºº

 2:15 Give diligence to present thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, handling aright the word of truth.

 2:15 Studyºº to shewºº thyselfº approvedº unto God,º a workmanº that needeth not to be ashamed,º rightly dividingºº theº wordº of truth.º

 2:16 But shun profane babblings: for they will proceed further in ungodliness,

 2:16 Butº shunºº profaneº [and] vain babblings:º forº they will increaseºº untoº moreº ungodliness.º

 2:17 and their word will eat as doth a gangrene: or whom is Hymenaeus an Philetus;

 2:17 Andº theirº wordº will eatººº asº doth a canker:º of whomº isºº Hymenaeusº andº Philetus;º

 2:18 men who concerning the truth have erred, saying that the resurrection is past already, and overthrow the faith of some.

 2:18 Whoº concerningº theº truthº have erred,ºº sayingºº that theº resurrectionº is pastºº already;º andº overthrowºº theº faithº of some.º

 2:19 Howbeit the firm foundation of God standeth, having this seal, The Lord knoweth them that are his: and, Let every one that nameth the name of the Lord depart from unrighteousness.

 2:19 Neverthelessº the foundationº of Godº standethºº sure,º havingºº thisº seal,º The Lordº knowethºº them that areºº his.ºº And,º Letºº every oneº that namethºº theº nameº of Christº departºº fromº iniquity.º

 2:20 Now in a great house there are not only vessels of gold and of silver, but also of wood and of earth; and some unto honor, and some unto dishonor.

 2:20 Butº inº a greatº houseº there areºº notº onlyº vesselsº of goldº andº of silver,º butº alsoº of woodº andº of earth;º andº someºº toº honour,º andº someº toº dishonour.º

 2:21 If a man therefore purge himself from these, he shall be a vessel unto honor, sanctified, meet for the master's use, prepared unto every good work.

 2:21 Ifº a manº thereforeº purgeºº himselfº fromº these,º he shall beºº a vesselº untoº honour,º sanctified,ºº andº meetº for the master's use,ººº [and] preparedºº untoº everyº goodº work.º

 2:22 But flee youthful lusts, and follow after righteousness, faith, love, peace, with them that call on the Lord out of a pure heart.

 2:22 Fleeºº alsoº youthfulº lusts:º butº followºº righteousness,º faith,º charity,º peace,º withº them that call onºº theº Lordº out ofº a pureº heart.º

 2:23 But foolish and ignorant questionings refuse, knowing that they gender strifes.

 2:23 Butº foolishº andº unlearnedº questionsº avoid,ºº knowingºº thatº they do genderºº strifes.º

 2:24 And the Lord's servant must not strive, but be gentle towards all, apt to teach, forbearing,

 2:24 Andº the servantº of the Lordº mustºº notº strive;ºº butº beºº gentleº untoº allº [men], apt to teach,º patient,º

 2:25 in meekness correcting them that oppose themselves; if peradventure God may give them repentance unto the knowledge of the truth,

 2:25 Inº meeknessº instructingºº those that oppose themselves;ºº ifºº Godº peradventureºº will giveºº themº repentanceº toº the acknowledgingº of the truth;º

 2:26 and they may recover themselves out of the snare of the devil, having been taken captive by him unto his will.

 2:26 Andº [that] they may recover themselvesºº out ofº theº snareº of theº devil,º who are taken captiveºº byº himº atº hisº will.º
