- Th e apostle in this epistle indulges in some fine paronomasais on the proper names. Thus Philemon, Φιλημον [Strong's G5371], affectionate, or beloved, is "our dearly beloved;" Apphia (Απφια [Strong's G0682], from απφα), the affectionate address of a brother or sister, according to Suidas), is "the beloved sister," as several manuscripts, Vulgate, and others correctly read; Archippus (Αρχιππος [Strong's G0751], the ruler of the horse, for the managing of which heros were anciently famous), is "our fellow- soldier;" and Onesimus (Ονησιμος [Strong's G3682], useful or profitable), once unprofitable, is now profitable., and fellow labourer, "Marcus,ª Aristarchus,ª Demas,ª Lucas,ª myª fellowlabourers.ª" {Phm 1:24} + "Forª we areª° labourers together² with¹ God:ª ye areª° God'sª husbandry,ª [ye are] God'sª building.ª" {1Co 3:9} + "Yetª I supposedª° it necessaryª to sendª° toª youª Epaphroditus,ª myª brother,ª andª companion in labour,ª andª fellowsoldier,ª butª yourª messenger,ª andª he that ministeredª to myª wants.ª" {Php 2:25} + "Andª I intreatª° theeª also,ª trueª yokefellow,ª helpª° those womenª whichª laboured²° with¹ meª inª the¹ gospel,ª withª Clementª also,ª andª [with] otherª myª fellowlabourers,ª whoseª namesª [are] inª the bookª of life.ª" {Php 4:3} + "Andª Jesus,ª which² is calledª° Justus,ª who² areª° ofª the circumcision.ª Theseª onlyª [are my] fellowworkersª untoª the¹ kingdomª of God,ª whichª have beenª° a comfortª unto me.ª" {Col 4:11} + "Andª sentª° Timotheus,ª ourª brother,ª andª ministerª of God,ª andª ourª fellowlabourerª inª the¹ gospelª of Christ,ª to² establishª° you,ª andª to comfortª° youª concerningª yourª faith:ª" {1Th 3:2}
