- I would:
- St. Paul evidently gave this advice in reference to the necessities of the church, or what he calls ("I supposeª° thereforeª that thisª isª° goodª forª the¹ presentª° distress,ª [I say], thatª [it is] goodª for a manª soª to be.ª°" {1Co 7:26}) the present distress; for it would be perfectly absurd to imagine that an inspired apostle would in the general, discountenance marriage, since it was of the greatest importance to the existence and happiness of future generations, and expressly agreeable to a Divine institution. "Have¹ we²° notª powerª to lead aboutª° a sister,ª a wife,ª as well asªª otherª apostles,ª andª [as] the¹ brethrenª of the¹ Lord,ª andª Cephas?ª" {1Co 9:5} + "Butª Iª have usedª° noneª of these things:ª² neitherª¹ have I writtenª° these things,ª thatª it should be²° soª doneª° untoª me:ª forª [it were] better²¹ for meª to¹ die,ª°² thanª thatª any manª should make²° my² glorying² void.ª°¹¹" {1Co 9:15} + "Andª Paulª said,ª° I wouldªª° to God,ª that notª onlyª thou,ª butª alsoª allª that hearª° meª this day,ª wereª° bothª almost,ªª andª altogetherªª suchª asª² I¹ am,ª° exceptª theseª bonds.ª" {Act 26:29}
