- hyssop:
- This hyssop is termed a reed by Matthew and Mark; and it appears that a species of hyssop, with a reedy stalk, about two feet long, grew about Jerusalem. "And ye shall takeª° a bunchª of hyssop,ª and dipª° [it] in the bloodª that¹ [is] in the bason,ª and strikeª°¹ the lintelª and the twoª side postsª with¹ the bloodª that¹ [is] in the bason;ª and noneª¹ of you¹ shall go outª° at the doorª¹ of his houseª until¹ the morning.ª" {Exd 12:22} + "And a cleanª personª shall takeª° hyssop,ª and dipª° [it] in the water,ª and sprinkleª° [it] upon¹ the tent,ª and upon¹ all¹ the vessels,ª and upon¹ the personsª that¹ were¹ there,¹ and upon¹ him that touchedª° a bone,ª or¹ one slain,ª or¹ one dead,ª° or¹ a grave:ª" {Num 19:18} + "And he spakeª° of¹ trees,ª from¹ the cedar treeª that¹ [is] in Lebanonª even unto¹ the hyssopª that¹ springeth outª° of the wall:ª he spakeª° also of¹ beasts,ª and of¹ fowl,ª and of¹ creeping things,ª and of¹ fishes.ª" {1Kg 4:33} + "Purgeª° me with hyssop,ª and I shall be clean:ª° washª° me, and I shall be whiterª° than snow.ª¹" {Psa 51:7}
