- the ravens:
- The raven is a species of the corvus, or crow tribe, of the order Picæ, known by its large size, its plumage being of a bluish black, and tail roundish at the end. It was probably selected by our Lord as being unclean. "And Elijahª the Tishbite,ª [who was] of the inhabitantsª¹ of Gilead,ª saidª° unto¹ Ahab,ª [As] the LORDª Godª of Israelª liveth,ª beforeª whom¹ I stand,ª° there shall not¹ be¹ dewª nor rainª these¹ years,ª but¹¹ accordingª to my word.ª ... And the ravensª broughtª° him breadª and fleshª in the morning,ª and breadª and fleshª in the evening;ª and he drankª° of¹ the brook.ª" {1Kg 17:1-6} + "Who¹ providethª° for the ravenª his food?ª when¹ his young onesª cryª° unto¹ God,ª they wanderª° for lackª of meat.ª" {Job 38:41} + "The eyesª of all¹ waitª° upon¹ thee; and thou¹ givestª° them¹ their meatª in due season.ª ... Thou openestª°¹ thine hand,ª and satisfiestª° the desireª of every¹ living thing.ª" {Psa 145:15-16} + "He givethª° to the beastª his food,ª [and] to the youngª ravensª which¹ cry.ª°" {Psa 147:9} + "Andª the¹ kingª wasª° exceeding sorry;ª [yet] for² his oath's sake,ª¹ andª for their sakes which² sat with¹ him,²° he wouldª° notª rejectª° her.ª" {Mrk 6:26}
