- the kingdom:
- For the destruction of the kingdom of Satan plainly implies the setting up of the kingdom of God. The reasoning of the Pharisees ("Butª he,ª knowingª° theirª thoughts,ª saidª° unto them,ª Everyª kingdomª dividedª° againstª itselfª is brought to desolation;ª° andª a houseª [divided] againstª a houseª falleth.ª°" {Lke 11:17}, and "Butª when the¹ Phariseesª heardª° [it], they said,ª° Thisª [fellow] doth²° notª cast outª° devils,ª butª byª Beelzebubª the princeª of the¹ devils.ª ... Andª Jesusª knewª° theirª thoughts,ª and saidª° unto them,ª Everyª kingdomª dividedª° againstª itselfª is brought to desolation;ª° andª everyª cityª orª houseª dividedª° againstª itselfª shall²° notª stand:ª°" {Mtt 12:24-25}), was not expressed, and Jesus knowing their thoughts, gave ample proof of his omniscience. This, with our Lord's masterly confutation of their reasonings, by a conclusion drawn from their own premises, one would have supposed might have humbled and convinced those men; but the most conclusive reasoning, and the most astonishing miracles, were lost upon a people who were obstinately determined to disbelieve every thing that was good relative to Jesus of Nazareth. "Andª healª° the¹ sickª that are therein,ªª andª sayª° unto them,ª The¹ kingdomª of Godª is come nighª° untoª you.ª" {Lke 10:9} + "Evenª the¹ very dustª ofª yourª city,ª which² cleavethª° on us,ª we do wipe offª° against you:ª notwithstandingª be ye sureª° of this,ª thatª the¹ kingdomª of Godª is come nighª° untoª you.ª" {Lke 10:11} + "And in the daysª of¹ theseª kingsª shall the Godª of heavenª set upª° a kingdom,ª which¹ shall neverªª be destroyed:ª° and the kingdomª shall notª be leftª° to otherª people,ª [but] it shall break in piecesª° and consumeª° allª theseª kingdoms,ª and itª shall standª° for ever.ª" {Dan 2:44} + "Andª now,ª behold,ª° Iª knowª° thatª yeª all,ª amongª whomª I have goneª° preachingª° the¹ kingdomª of God,ª shall seeª° myª faceª no more.ª" {Act 20:25} + "Andª when they had appointedª° himª a day,ª there cameª° manyª toª himª intoª [his] lodging;ª to whomª he expoundedª° and testifiedª° the¹ kingdomª of God,ªª persuadingª° themª concerningª Jesus,ª bothª out ofª the¹ lawª of Moses,ª andª [out of] the¹ prophets,ª fromª morningª tillª evening.ª ... Be¹ it²° knownª thereforeª unto you,ª thatª the¹ salvationª of Godª is sentª° unto the¹ Gentiles,ª andª [that] they¹ will hearª° it.²" {Act 28:23-28} + "[Which is] a manifest tokenª of the¹ righteousª judgmentª of God,ª that² yeª may be counted worthyª° of the¹ kingdomª of God,ª forª whichª ye²° alsoª suffer:ª°" {2Th 1:5}
