- other seventy:
- Rather, seventy others, as Dr. Campbell renders; for the expression other seventy implies that there were seventy sent before, which was not the case. It seems to refer to the twelve apostles whom our Lord had previously chosen. "And the LORDª saidª° unto¹ Moses,ª Gatherª° unto me seventyª menª of the eldersª¹ of Israel,ª whom¹ thou knowestª° to be the eldersª of the people,ª and officersª° over them; and bringª° them unto¹ the tabernacleª of the congregation,ª that they may standª° there¹ with¹ thee." {Num 11:16} + "And Mosesª went out,ª° and toldª°¹ the peopleª¹ the wordsª of the LORD,ª and gatheredª° the seventyª menª of the eldersª¹ of the people,ª and setª° them round aboutª the tabernacle.ª ... But there remainedª° twoª [of the] men²¹ in the camp,ª the nameª of the oneª [was] Eldad,ª and the nameª of the otherª Medad:ª and the spiritª restedª° upon¹ them; and they¹ [were] of them that were written,ª° but went not outª°¹ unto the tabernacle:ª and they prophesiedª° in the camp.ª" {Num 11:24-26}
